Croyle Represents New ERA In Kansas City
Jun 06, 2007 | 10:19PM | report this

Now that Trent Green has officially been traded to Miami, the Chiefs are ready to turn the page at quarterback with Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle.

Huard did a nice job while Green was sidelined last season.  He displayed veteran savvy and did a good job pushing the ball downfield.  He takes a good approach to the game.

But Huard isn’t the ultimately reason the Chiefs traded Trent Green.

Brodie Croyle is the future in Kansas City.  And Herm Edwards felt it was the right time to start the transition at quarterback and put his own stamp on this team moving forward.  Green will be 37 years old and suffered a very bad concussion last season.  And the Chiefs couldn’t progress beyond being a first round playoff team.

Croyle will be given every opportunity to win the starting job this summer.  Edwards really likes this guy.  Croyle is a competitor who shows good natural instincts on the football field.  He’s smart and knows how to get rid of the ball quickly for a young quarterback, but Croyle’s presence on the practice field is what intrigues Edwards most.  Croyle has all the attributes to develop into a strong leader.  Croyle knows how to win games as proven during his tenure at Alabama.

The major concern with Croyle is durability.  He’s suffered a lot of critical injuries to joints such as his knee, elbow, and shoulder prior to turning pro.  A past with joint injuries is always a concern for medical people around the league.  Croyle’s going to take some hits playing behind an offensive line that has lost William Roaf and Will Shields over the past year.

Your last paragraph was correct. You are looking to hand over the reigns to an oft injured COLLEGE QB from a proven vet, even IF he was 37 years old? Croyle will NEVER amount to anything and you know it. Damon Huard is a backup at best. What will KC do next? Bring in Donovan McNabb in 4 years when he is done? It seems to be their history. Either draft a nobody or expend money on a has been. Joe Montana, Marcus Allen, Trent Green, Eddie Kinnison, on.......and on..........and on. The Chiefs will never make a difference without different management. Period.

I'm not sure what the Chiefs brass was thinking. Green was their only legit, battle-tested QB. Huard looked great last year because of their O-line, so it'll be interesting to see if he holds up this year. They should probably add a veteran back up, before the season. I'm not sure what to think of Croyle just yet, as I've never seen him play. Cutting the ties with Green wasn't the best decision. The team seemed just a couple of good receivers and defensive backs short of having a great team. They took a giant step back in trading Green.

Green has seen his best days and KC knows it, unlike the Pack, KC was in the playoffs last year and has anticipated the departure of Green. For all those great numbers he put up, they only managed to get into the playoffs once. Yeah they will miss one playoffs in six years a bunch.

To begin, I am a huge Miami Dolphins fan, and I don't think they made a great move. Green is on the decline. K.C. made a smart move getting rid of that salary after last year. I hope for Miami's sake that he can regain his form of precision passing and putting up good numbers.

I only have one question for K.C. fans. Why would you take the keys back from Huard? He was doing an amazing job. If it was just the o-line, then why didn't Green do as great a job when he returned from injury.

If I was Edwards, I would have rode that pony until it broke!

Dang Boo! Your Bio is better than the post. Fiction is da bomb.

Ok, reality time.
You a KC diehard? I can handle that.

The NEW KC QB has injury history.
That affects his supposed succeess at QB in the NFL.
This isn't your father's Razorback team, dude.

I hope Croyle does well. I'll yell at my NFL package, hoping he succeeds; I just don't know.
Without Shields, Croyle better learn to run for his life. WORD!

I agree that there has to be concern in terms of the durability of Croyle as I mentioned. Huard certainly did a solid job last season, but can that carry over into this season? His track record suggests not. Most pro scouts grade Huard as a decent backup type. One area that definitely helps whoever is at quarterback is the presence of Larry Johnson. We'll see how Croyle responds in training camp to the opportunity. I believe in Herman Edwards' heart from what I am hearing, he wants Croyle to seize the job now so he can turn the page and build around a young quarterback rather than remain stuck in the middle of the pack with a veteran quarterback.

Herm knows he has ridden his horse to the death valley. He has seen it before. No more protection for a QB or RB. Might as well try to cash in on Larry's value before he gets killed this year, while sticking in a injury prone "rookie" Qb. If he touches the ball 400 times this year, the Chiefs will go 2-14 & be picking 1st overall next April. I GUARANTEE IT. They WILL be playing catch up all year. If they win one division game this year, they will be lucky. Herm is a great defensive coordinator, like Martz is a great offensive coordinator. Hopefully he gets back to where he should be, before KC wastes much more time.
