Has anyone who followed Nascar for more than 10 years seen a more screwed up year? There seems to be no end to the confusion, the drama, the inconsistencies, the attitudes. The France family has loss control and if they're not careful the sport as we know it might just spin out of control and self destruct. Every week seems to bring on another non race related situation that just distracts from what we all have come to enjoy. The days when the drama came out of the garages, or during qualifying are being replaced by the drama of the Nextel trailer, or the boardroom. Drivers leaving teams, numbers being changed, owners throwing money on the table, or under it, These are things that have been going on for years. Now it seems that those are the subjects that dominate the press and video media. As Fans, and consumers we need to let the racing community know that we're tired of it. Want to see changes, have the sponsors step up and make demands on the owners. I have always enjoyed racing, and would have been pissed if I missed a race, but know, it's more like "Oh Well'',read it in the paper. The coverage on T.V. is horrible now, with Rusty and the boys stumbling their way through broadcasts, people in places they don't know what they're talking about. The media and Nascar also needs to realize that we all don't worship the ground that the D.E.I. people walk on and there are other stories we are interested in. I guess all we hope for is that 2007 gets over soon, and maybe we can hold out for a decent 2008 season..
Kenny Wallace is a class act. To admit in a sense, that your just not producing, and let a team try to go forward, is more than commendable. Kenny needs to find a good Bush team, or maybe a truck team and provide them with everything he can bring to the table. Who better than Kenny to represent your company or product? He has always been the best critic of himself, and the first one to admit when he has made a mistake. If he can't find a ride, then the T.V. booth is his next home. He is a natural behind the mike and in front of the camera. He could teach Rusty a few things. #2..Change of subject.... NASCAR!!!!! Every other week!!!! A road course. Sundays race was the best race in weeks..The drivers drove, The cars spun, the fenders ####ed,Missed shifts, screwed up pit stops, Fights.{well scuffle} between drivers, Trading paint, who could ask for more??? No more sitting watching someone lead 150 laps, no passing, sleeping for 50 laps and waking up to the same leaders...Come on folks.. Road courses prove who can drive, not who can steer.... A trained #### can put it to the floor, never lift, and pit every 26 laps...Good job Tony. Sorry Jeff, but then again, the driver spun out, not the pit crew, or fuel cell, or wind tunnel guy... Great race.....
Anyone heard from Mr Fike lately??? Maybe we need to look under the carpet? Boy did Nascar hush that one up.. No NO No...we're not saying much, are we...
It's really to bad that there isn't another series that the guys could leave Nascar for. I would be so pissed, and to say the least, embarrassed to be a part of todays Nascar..To have the sanctioning body feel so in control of every aspect of the teams everyday actions is ludicris. If the public or the networks have a problem with a four letter word, let them deal with it, not Nascar. If a driver for some reason declines the invitation to attend a press conference, so be it. I think we still have freedom of speech, or lack of, don't we? Good God Gertie, those are adults racing out there, lets quit treating them like someones children.
Is anyone else getting bored with this years Nascar season? Geez no one seems to care about the racing anymore.Everyones to focused on the drivers and who's going where. Who's buying who, who's cheating on what, ...I'll bet a good percentage of fans don't even know who's close to the chase and who's not. Well we"re back at Indy this week, if anyone cares.. Everyone scrambling to buy those antiquated # 8 Bud cups and hats. Better keep a eye on Tony.. I will soon be launching the "Save Lindsay Lohan" web site, so please don't mail me money until I tell you to. Falcon, I do have that autographed Brittney Spears picture you wanted. Please send me the $50.00. Tsfanpc, The KFED rap c.d. is back ordered, will keep you posted. Well I need to get going and knit some socks, it will be getting cold here in Calif soon and the illegal aliens will be getting chilly crossing the border at night. Anyone want to pitch in and help, drop me a note..
Wow, has money changed this sport for the worst. As a life long fan, and sometime participant it really seems like the racing is secondary to everything else these days. Nascar has prostituted itself into a joke, from one weekend to the next they have no idea what they are doing. If you have enough money you can buy drivers, buy points, ruin guys careers, and still sit in New York at the end of the year like nothing ever happened and act like you actually won the award they just gave you. There are a few older drivers left that still have the principles that Nascar was founded on, but they are few and far between. The Mark Martins, Marlins, the Petty's, they know whats up. They can remember when your wrenches meant as much as your wallet. Sure big business has brought good changes to the sport, more T.V exposure, more advertising , more fans, more money for the drivers. But it's also brought multi cars teams so we the fans get to hear drivers squabble over who can't pass who, who is number one, who gets the better motors and crews. There is an old saying, "Bigger isn't always better". Maybe Mike Helton and the boys better step back and look at what they have created. Maybe they better wonder if what they have created can be controlled like the old sport it once was, and if not, they better fix it fast. There was no way the computer age was ever going to fail. Now drive through the Silicon Valley area outside of San Fransisco now and look at the deserted high rise buildings and vacant parking lots, of companies that used to give away cars as bonus's to their employees. They created a monster that soon consumed itself, and disappeared. Is Nascar headed that way, I doubt it,not at this time, but remember we learn from the past, and we learn from ours, and others mistakes. If not, then history serves us not. Be Cool, Just a few thoughts from the BOBDOT
Before we all go and string Fike up lets make sure he's guilty. You know as much as Nascar would like to think they run everything, he does have a few constitutional rights. We also need to look at the situation that these kids are in,and yes they are kids. They are thrown into an adult world, given hugh contracts and told they are the best of the best. Motor homes and cars are given to them, money is no object , it's no surprise that some attract those that aren't giving them the best advice or examples. Nascar needs to be proactive and have a plan worked out to help these drivers. Remember, these guys are no different than others in society today that abuse substances. If a driver proves to have a substance abuse problem then Nascar and the owners should work with the young man or women to provide them a means to help themselves. If in the end the driver elects to not follow up on the help provided then Nascar is obligated to suspend that drivers privileges to race within their organization. It seems so easy to say throw Fike out on his ####, no place for druggies or drunks in Nascar. But would it be as easy to yell throw Mark Martin out, or Sterling Marlin for a addiction to pain killers from a racing accident? Last thought, then I'll get off my soap box, For a sport that has been supported by the liquor industry for years and years, and that being the number one abused controlled substance in the United States today Nascar has to be really careful to not fall into a real hypocritical situation here. Alcohol abuse is very prevalent at most Nascar function, as noted by the press everytime a fan throws a beer can on the track or a fight breaks out.
Are we getting stuck in a rut? Same old tracks, same old weekends, same old drivers, same old venues to talk about..Just imagine if we had two divisions, leagues, conferences, call them what you want, that competed against each other in Nascar. Maybe North and South, or East and West, who knows.. Sure they would run on different tracks, but baseball plays in different size parks, football plays in different weather, indoors and out..Meet a couple of times a year, send your best 10 teams..Who knows. Just food for thought. Maybe more people would think about investing in tracks if they knew they would get the races.. Bring back the 1 mile tracks, Maybe a West Coast Bristol type track. Road course in Florida, use the Daytona road course maybe..This would not only cut down on the expenses for the teams, but also fans would find it more entertaining and available by not having to travel clear across the country.Moving on...... How about a Nascar policy that if they find an infraction that the car is sent back to the garage to be fixed and then reinspected? I know this is a change in my recent ramblings but why not? Nascar would need to increase the inspection people to get everyone done in time, but oh well, they have the money. Then if there was an honest mistake, like Dale Jr's brackets on the COT spoiler, they don't go crazy. There are things called mistakes, or accidents.. First lap accident, go to back up car if available..Red Flag, get the race ready back up car out, finish the race starting from the rear.People came to see race of their best drivers, not watch the leader sit in the pits or garage for an hour only to come out in a piece of #### to run for 3 points. Mandate BIGGER pit roads and pit stalls before we kill some poor tire changer. If your track can't accommodate a larger pit system, then the number of cars in the field will be decreased to fit the existing facilities.AND....Let's quit screwing with the fuel cell issue, I want to see a race decided by the drivers skill, not by a propeller head with a calculator. While I'm on a roll, LEADERS in the front, lapped traffic in the back, no lucky dog, Side by side restarts, just like the starts. yellow flag, go back to the last lap run under green, start as they crossed the line on that lap.Yellow flag in the last 10 laps, freeze the field, freeze the laps, 8 laps to go and yellow comes out, 8 laps to run when all cleaned up and the green falls. The sport is called "Racing" not "Chess"..Everyone have a good 4th of July, be safe, and remember those who gave their lives so we can enjoy this freedom to write and say what we believe..If I pissed you off, sorry, If I got you to think a little, good. The sport needs fans who care, or we'll all end up watching bowling.. Be Cool...BOBDOT
Well it's that time of the year to see who can turn left, and who can turn right..Who can throw that heavy old stock car into the corner and have the balls to stand on it longer than the other guy. Who will lift first as we rocket down hill and feel the car get really light in the corner. Oh and by the way, not many walls here to rub against when you start to push. And somebody please tell the Bush brothers that they are in the WINE country, not..the WHINE country. Welcome to Sonoma, hot, dusty, miles to walk if you drive to the track, great views, crummy shuttle buses, super racing, expensive beer, beautiful California girls, hot sun, little bikinis, who could ask for more. Sponsor of the race is from Modesto, here, so the place is loaded with cup cars on display, so fun for the kids..Hope we have a good race. Here's a cool Coors Light toast to Mikey, great to see him get in the race and have a decent finish. Good choice for him to get some good road racers for this week too, need to do whatever he can to get into the race. Lets all vote too, to put the Junior #### on the shelf for awhile and get back to racing, kind of reminds me of the Tiger Woods b.s.... There are others out there golfing and driving you sports writers.. Well everyone come and spend your money out west, bring sunscreen, sinscreens, and lots of moola, cause we need the moola out here, Arnold is draining us dry...
