Teams of Color by Color
Jul 01, 2008 | 11:19PM | report this

Of the four major pro sports Hockey, Baseball, Football, Basketball in the United States and Canada only eight teams actually have a color as part of the mascot. Soccer was not included because it is lower than bowling and poker on the sports food chain in America. Simply looking at the four sports and the 122 pro sports teams there is one thing obvious, if you are a team of color you better have "red" in the name.

Sean Taylor RIP  Teams with the name "red" include the Redskins, Red Wings, Red Sox, and Reds. These teams comprise 50% of the list known as the "A list". The Browns, White Sox, and Blue Jays represent the other 50% of the list known as the "B list".

The Red teams have a combined 27 Championships between them. The Red Wings have won 11 Stanley Cups, the Red Sox have won 6 World Series, the Reds have won 5 World Series, and the Redskins have won 5 Super Bowls. This is why they are the "A list".

The other #### teams have only 12 combined Championships. That is why they are on the "B list". They are not new franchises either. These teams have been around a long time. In fact every team of color has been around a long time. The newest team on the list is the Toronto Blue Jays whose franchise began in 1977 which is relatively young in comparison to the other teams on the list.

Teams of color are old school. You will probably never see another team name including a color as part of the name. But if your city gets one, they better make the name have "Red" in it!

The entire list of most championships by pro teams of color:

Red Wings 11

Red Sox 6

Reds 5

Redskins 5

Browns 4

White soxs 3

Blackhawks 3

Blue Jays 2

The Breakdown:

4 teams were from MLB

Zero teams were from the NBA

Chicago has 2 teams on the list

2 teams with Indian names on the list and 2 about colors of Sox.

2 teams of color left off the list the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets have never won a Championship.

Of all teams "Blue" only a combined 2 Championships

Cabrera Made and Paid
Mar 24, 2008 | 1:57AM | report this

Guillen and Cabrera in 2007 at the all star gameWith new team and contract Miguel Cabrera will enter into the 2008 season a made man. For the first time in his career Cabrera will have protection in the line up. The Tigers have potentially the most potent line up ever when you consider the balance in average and power top to bottom. Now he has money in the bank and has a line up that should allow him to get more good pitches than ever. In 2007 Cabrera hit .320 with 34 Hrs and 119 RBI being protected in the line up by Hanley Ramirez.

Look at the Tigers one through nine. Lead off with one of the games best young stars in Curtis Granderson who in 2007 hit .302 with 23 Hrs and 74 RBI. Granderson also 38 doubles and 23 triples which led MLB. Throw in 26 stolen bases as well.

After Granderson you have the best second baseman in baseball. Placido Polanco in 2007 hit .341 had 9 HR 67 RBI and only 30 strikeouts for the entire season! Polanco also was perfect in 2007 committing zero errors.

Gary Sheffield and Magglio Ordonez hitting before, around, or after Cabrera followed by Carlos Guillen who hit .296 last year is a switch hitter and also had 21 Hrs and 102 RBI. Don’t forget Magglio hit 28 Hrs and hit .363 with 139 RBI.

You also can not forget the Tigers addition at shortstop Edgar Renteria. The Tigers brought him in because they had to move Carlos Guillen to first base because of his kness. This should help Guillen play in more games this year also. Renteria however is not a slouch either. Renteria hit .332 last year with 12 Hrs and 57 RBI in Atlanta.

So with new contract in hand baseball’s best player under 25 becomes the 4th highest paid player in MLB.   One other factor in Cabrera getting the deal was showing up to spring training trim and much more fit than expected.  It showed right away that he was excited to be in Dewtroit.  Dontrelle Willis speaks often on how high Cabrera's sports IQ is.  He says that Cabrera really understands and loves the game of baseball more than most other players do.

Here is the report from the AP:  By LARRY LAGE, AP Sports Writer Tigers and Cabrera agree to $152.3 million, 8-year deal

Pudge Approaching Best All Time? -also trade thoughts
Apr 11, 2007 | 1:50AM | report this

Ivan Rodriguez is in the last year of his four year contract. There is a club option for next season. The Tigers may just utilize that option due to not having a clear cut replacement. Pudge is also closing in on some milestones as well. If he can sustain regular play, in two more seasons he will set the all time games caught record surpassing Carlton Fisk’s record of 2.226 games. He is also in reach of something no catcher has ever done, have 3,000 hits for a career. He would likely have to play four to five more seasons to do that though. The other question would be, Is he going to catch for four to five more seasons?

Pudge has had some great offensive and defensive years. He is a career .304 hitter and he is quick out of the gate this season hitting .381 with two home runs including a three-run game winner in Kansas City. He is also a 13 time All-Star. Rodriguez topped all major league catchers by throwing out 45.7 percent of base-runners attempting to steal 21 of 46, led all American League catchers with a .998 fielding percentage, his two errors were the fewest by any league catcher with a minimum of 100 games caught during the season. And was named the best defensive catcher in the American League by Baseball America.

He just does it all and has for his entire career. He was also named the 1999 American League MVP. It may be safe to that when Pudge reaches some of the milestones what do you think? Is Pudge Approaching Best All Time?

Rumors involving the Tigers trading before the trade deadline are going to be abundant this year. Some will have some merit as well. It is no secret that Dave Dombrowski the Tigers General Manager is not afraid to pull the trigger if the right player becomes available.

The latest involvement with the Tigers is regarding two San Fransisco Giants. One homer every series means Bonds not only would have broken the record in June but also would likely be leading the majors at the All-Star break with 28. You'd have the Yankees, Angels and Tigers tripping over each other to plug him in at DH for a run at the title. All have the type of young talent that could immediately brighten the Giants' future. The Giants may also be looking to deal Matt Morris who is in the last year of his contract. About 10 more games like Thursday's and the playoff-experienced right-hander might be the No. 1 available arm at the deadline. In the final year of his contract, he'd be the ideal rent-a-pitcher down the stretch. It depends on the health of Kenny Rogers who could be back by July.

We Need to Talk!
Mar 01, 2007 | 8:06PM | report this
There is so much happening right now in sports.  Free agency starts at 12:01 EST tonight March 2nd, well that would actually be tomorrow morning officially, but who cares you know what I mean.  We have the NHL trade deadline passed and a story yet to come that you will see actually get coverage in an NHL arena of more than a highlight on Sportscenter.  Spring training has also began and steroid winds are blowing yet again.

So we need to talk, well I need to write and you need to read.  I am going to start with a trade that actually happened in the NFL.  The big surprise to me is that there was actually three players involved in the trade as well.  The Detroit Lions sent Dre Bly and a 6th round draft pick to Denver for Tatum Bell, (T) George Foster, and a 5th round pick.  The winner to me is Denver but Detroit needed to make this deal as well so it works out for both sides very well.  The Broncos now have two very good pro bowl corners on their defense.  The Lions lose Bly but gain another solid RB to team up with injured Kevin Jones who currently is injured with a serious foot injury.  Bly is a very good cover corner but Detroit's defense is now designed to have run stopping CBs instead.  To me Denver gets the better end because they may have the best pair of corners in the game now and the Broncos always fit new RBs in their system and they seem to work every time. Detroit is now clearing out Matt Millen's guys he brought in, to bring in more of them.....uh oh  At least Matt got two players for Dre and will move up a round in the draft as well.  Good trade for both.

Joey Porter was released by Pittsburgh today making him a free agent.  Joe Horn was released as well.  Most of the better free agents seem to be defensive players.  A team could actually bring in Nate Clements, Ken Hamlin, Joey Porter, Donnie Edwards and Adelius Thomas if they lay out the contracts correctly.  Not really but it does sound like the Washington (racist Indian name) NFL team for 2007!

Brady Quinn, what is the deal here?  He didn't throw at the combine?  He is a quarterback.  Now I read that he isn't going to interview for teams during Notre Dame's pro day.  He was over rated his entire career and now he is costing himself millions of dollars by falling even a few picks in the draft.  Or is he?  Maybe the less he says the better.  Kind of like how a woman knows if she wants to get it on with a guy unless he starts saying a bunch of stupid stuff by talking too much.  Maybe not but he may fall to picks 15-20 by doing this.  That is the difference in millions of dollars in guaranteed money.

NHL trade deadline had a lower noted trade which involved league tough guy in Todd Bertuzzi to the Detroit Red Wings.  Bert goes to the Wings who are a team he was a former nemesis of.  He had a fued on ice with Chris Chelios.  Bertuzzi clotheslined Chris Chelios in a playoff game and instantly became the bull's-eye on every Detroit fan's dartboard?  Now the two are teamates.  Bert also may help revive a former rivalry.  Remember Bertuzzi is the guy who hit Colorado's Steve Moore from behind and has essentially ended his career.  The NHL may want to get the Wings-Avs rivalry revived because anytime they had these two play the ratings were actually on the ratings.  The Red Wings continue to be the team that gets ratings when they are on but unfortunatly for the NHL, they are the only team anyone ever wants to watch.  They are and have been a great team to watch and have never been afraid to bring in who they thought gave them the best chance to win the Stanley Cup.  Now they bring in a player in Todd Bertuzzi who has played all but seven games this year and had a 17 month suspension from the Moore hit.

Gary SheffieldGary Sheffield has a new book coming out and it will cover a lot of things in his life he never talked about before including steroids.  Sheffield met with a Major League Baseball executive Thursday to discuss recent comments by the Detroit slugger on whether he would cooperate with former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell's investigations into steroids.  Sheff was quoted in the an Associated Press report saying conflicting things at different times of the week "The (players') association told us this is just a witch hunt," Sheffield told USA Today. "They don't want us to talk to them. This is all about getting Barry Bonds."  Sheffield then told SI.com he would let the union decide whether he would talk with Mitchell's staff.  "I've always been more than willing," Sheffield told SI.com. "I'm not saying they're going to get much out of me, 'cause I don't know nothing."   I believe him when he says it too. He has always been a great player but never in the same place very long.  Sheffield has always been a contract guy.  By that I mean he always made sure he was "getting his."  If MLB was ever concerned about steroids in baseball and the intergrity of the game they would have never let it get this out of hand.

Roger Clemens worth it? Ichiro and Sheffield are
Feb 22, 2007 | 11:34PM | report this
I still think that Roger Clemens is one of the top five pitchers in baseball.  It does not mean he is a top pitcher I want.  I think he should only pitch in Houston so he can spend more time with his family, which is what caused him to go there in the first place.  Roger has lost a little respect in my eyes though on the way he plays each year now.  Just make up your mind already.  How about showing a little dedication to the sport like you used to when you were only making $2 million a year.  All or nothing.  It isn't fair to the Astros, Yankees, and Red Sox to leave everyone hanging for nothing.  Maybe the Astros would not have lost a few more games earlier in the season when he was sitting out and made a run at the playoffs.  This year they brought in Carlos Lee to get some offense which is what really cost the Astros a playoff run.  But come on Roger, go all out, show dedication and some desire.  Your team will feed off it.  Give all you can to a game you took so much from monetarily.  You made enough money for the next five generations of Clemens' to live off.

Attention Brian Cashman, the player you need to bring in is not the Rocket, it is Ichiro.  Not that I want the Yankees to trade for him, it is just that they never spend all those millions on the right guys.  If the Yankees are such a great team to play for why do they always have to overpay for EVERYONE they sign?Anyway, Ichiro is in the last year of his contract.  He has said that he will become a free-agent next year if the Mariners are not a winning team.  He is in that part of his career that he sees the end of the road coming and wants to win a championship.  He is an elite baseball player and is a franchise player as he is called Mr. Mariner in Seattle. He will get traded by the Mariners if they can not put together a playoff run before the trade deadline.  Ichiro could be a great fir on many teams.  His name will be rumored to be traded to Boston, New York(s), Detroit, Minnesota, and Los Angeles.

Gary Sheffield will be just fine in Detroit.  He will be out of the media spotlight.  Detroit is not a small market team but the media is not nearly as over bearing.  Sheffield leaves a locker room of individuals and soap opera type reporting to a team that has as good of team chemistry and attitude as any team in MLB.  He also doesn't have to be the best hitter either.  So he doesn't have a lot of pressure and he is comfortable with Jim Leyland as a manager.

The main reason I said Sheffield and Ichiro are worth it, to have on your team is because you know that they are going to be there for the whole season and are dedicated to the team.  I question Rogers desire at this point beyond money, and that used to be Sheffield's game.

A Five Spot
Feb 16, 2007 | 7:14AM | report this
Here a five quick hits to get you ready for Spring Training and Tigers babseball.

5. It is that time of year when we start to see teams one by one start filling into clubhouses in Florida and Arizona. What a feeling that spring is just around the corner and so is baseball. It is that time that you start to see players put their gloves on for the first time and play catch to get warmed up. The first toss of the year to a teammate is a symbol of getting warmed up for the entire season, not just to play catch. Pitchers and catchers have started to report around the league and games start on 3/1.

4. The Tigers come into Spring Training 2007 a different team. A much different team. A team that is poised season long battle with Minnesota for first place and are favored by many to return to the World Series. This will be one of the most anticipated seasons in decades. Fans have already begun to buy tickets for almost anything available, even Spring Training is selling out this season!

3. Will the Tigers add to their MLB record of triple plays this year. The Tigers team hold the record for the most triple plays all time (33). The last time the Tigers were able to pull off this play was 8/1/2001 when Easley, Cruz, and Halter put it together against the Mariners. Easley is also a player with another rare feat in Tigers history. Seven days later in a game against Texas he had a six-hit game which is only one of four times (Bill Nance, Ty Cobb, and Carlos Pena were the others) this has happened in the Old English D.

2. Now is your chance to make the team! The Tigers will hold their annual Spring Training tryout camp on Monday, March 5, at their Joker Marchant Stadium complex in Lakeland, Fla. All you have to do is be 18 years old and should bring your own glove and workout equipment. The Tigers will provide wood bats, helmets and baseballs. Registration begins at 9 a.m. ET before the workout starts around 10 a.m. There's no pre-registration or participation fee. Just don’t show up with a bag of baseballs and jerseys to have signed and it is in Florida so get your plane tickets in advance.

1. The motivation from getting so close last year and getting denied is big this year. Nate Robertson said in his blog “Human beings are emotional people, especially when they deal with something as emotional as this. And it's been a very emotional season. We've had a change of destiny so many different times. I think that there's going to be more reflection. I know there's disappointment obviously right now, but there's going to be more reflection on how special the year was, as opposed to how disappointing it was to finish like we did." But this year they add in Gary Sheffield, confidence, and a goal higher than just getting to finish 500. What a difference a year makes.

Juan Gone, Juan Back?
Feb 05, 2007 | 10:16AM | report this
Juan Gonzalez is ready to make a comeback. Juan “Gone” is now 37 years old and ready to make a return to MLB in search of 500 home runs. Juan Gonzalez hasn't played in the Majors since getting injured in his first at-bat of 2005. Gonzalez has 434 career home runs and has driven in 1,404 runs in his 17-year career with Texas, Detroit, Kansas City and Cleveland.

Juan being gone was actually the best thing to ever happen to the Detroit Tiger organization in its club history. Former GM Randy Smith offered the slugger an eight year $156 Million contract. Gonzalez declined the contract and the rest is history. For Tigers fans it is good history, for Gonzalez it was the worst mistake of his life. With Juan the Tigers could have never signed Pudge and the rest of the player changes because they would have been handcuffed by a salary for a player that was hurt more often than not. He was quoted saying "I still can play and I couldn't before because I was hurt," said Gonzalez, who will be 38 in September. "I can't do anything about that anymore because that is history. I have a goal and that is I want to hit 500 home runs and maybe then I will retire. Maybe. We'll see what God has planned for me." Maybe he thinks he is Hall-of-Fame material. Does Juan think that if he achieves 500 Hrs that he will be a shoe in for the Hall?
According to a report on MLB.com: Gonzalez said at least four Major League teams are interested in signing him for the 2007 season............................................

Sports, Stadiums, and Nerve
Jan 23, 2007 | 11:21PM | report this
Here is a new one to me.  The Seattle Supersonics may move out of Seattle at the end of the season the the WNBA Storm if the taxpayers do not assist with $300 million in taxpayers subsidies.  I was reading this in sleeplessineattles blog and couldn't help but get a little upset about another team holding their city hostage on a new arena/stadium.  Art Modell did this to the city of Cleveland with the Browns.  He used the stadium and its revenue as a means to get out.

It takes a lot of stones to actually have the nerve to demand a city grant $300 million to help a multi-Billion dollar company build its own facility.  The Sonics like almost every single team in any sport are NOT owned by the city but by an investor or investment group.  The Packers are the only team I even know of that is own by the citizens.

The part that really takes it over the top is that when you do go to watch your hometown team that you helped build a facility, they charge you 600% more for every item in the building and parking too!  Shouldn't everything be cheaper?  Seriously, how can they charge $8 or more for a beer and $3.50 for one hot dog.  Even McDonalds and other fast food chains have gotten into this scam.  Last season at a Tigers game I went into McDonalds to get a Big Mac meal and saw it was $9.50!  and you couldn't even get it special made.  I am not even sure if they made the food at this McDonalds.  It could have been driven there from a real McDonalds outside of the stadium.

Tigers agree with four players
Jan 22, 2007 | 4:32AM | report this
According to Tigerscentral.com the Detroit Tigers have agreed to contracts with four players.  The terms of the deals are now available and in that article written by Robert Green.  I have actually been writing for that site for a while now.  This being my third season.  Trust me it was difficult to write about the Tigers when they were so terrible.  This season will be more anticipated than any I can remember since the mid eigthies.

The Tigers may also be ready to make another move.  This trade would likely involve Marcus Thames and one of two minor league pitchers such as Jordan Tata.  The move that is rumored is for a lefty out of the bull pen or another slugger.

blah blah blah SCAM, blah blah blah World Series Tickets!
Oct 19, 2006 | 1:52PM | report this

the underpants gnomes  The original scam was thought and planned out by the underpants gnomes.  They thought they had it all planned out.  UNDERWEAR + ? = PROFIT!  But the plan never came to fruition because they always had that same question mark.

The Detroit Tigers owner Mike Illitch has devised a similar scheme but the question mark they never thought they would figure out, turned out to be the Tigers making the World Series.

You see, Mike Illitch is the owner of the Detroit Red Wings and Little Ceasers pizza as well.  So the equasion he was working with was - RED WINGS TICKETS + ? = PROFIT.  He now figured out that the question mark was his other toy, the Tigers.  RED WINGS TICKETS + TIGERS WORLD SERIES TICKETS = PROFIT!

Here is how though.  According to a news bulletin by the Detroit Free Press,  if you couldn’t get World Series tickets for games 1 and 2, all you have to do is buy 20 Red Wings tickets.

Select 20 or more single seats in any combination (20 seats for one game, 10 seats for two games, etc.). That will qualify you to purchase two side-by-side seats to Game 1 (Saturday) or Game 2 (Sunday) at Comerica Park.  Red Wings seats might not be side-by-side, but $5they’ll be as close together as possible based on availability. Seats are $44, $54 and $76.
Tigers seating will be side-by-side, located in the outfield box, $256 per seat.

I guess it isn't that bad, but at least he didn't say you had to buy 25 Hot-N-Ready pizzas and multiple show tickets at the Fox Theatre in Detroit as well as a 5 drink minimum across the street from Comerica [park at the Hockeytown cafe.

Do you want to know how it felt?
Oct 17, 2006 | 9:28PM | report this

Some fans have never been so lucky.  Some have never saw their home town team of anything make it all the way.  Some fans have team that never had and never will make it all the way, or win a Championship of any kind.

Some teams fans take it for granted or seem to think it is their right to win it all every year, and demands players traded and coachs fired.  Well in case you wondered what it was like and what I am talking about, here it is.

Last Saturday night in Detroit something happened that didn't seem possible in the last 19 years let alone 6 months ago.  The Tigers made it all the way.  The made it to the World Series!  How manty people in April and May put money down on the Tigers.  The Tigers have always been a sleeping giant of fan base in Michigan and the fans are much deeper rooted as well.

This is what you may have seen last (here)Saturday.  Here is what Tigers fans saw ( here and here).  They saw a team that no one said had a chance and has been so bad for so long make it all the way.  That home rum is one that will be talked about for many many years in Detroit.  I will remember wear I was when it happened much like Kirk Gibson's home run in the 84' Series off Goose Gossage as well.

Tigers win! A's fire Macha, Yankees should follow suit
Oct 17, 2006 | 7:28PM | report this
photo by ME! click to enlarge In a dramatic swing Magglio got the Tigers into the World Series and the A's skipper gets canned.  Now I know most think that getting a team into the playoffs should be good enough.  But it isn't.  Look at the Yankees nearly firing Joe Torre after have the best record in the league.  However both should have been fired.  And hear is why.

1.  Joe Torre should have been fired for losing to the Tigers because he had the best hitting line up we may ever see in our lifetime.  That line up looked like one of a kid playing in season mode on MLB 06' on X Box.  If you can't figure out a way to get those guys to hit, you have to go.

2.  Torre and Macha both decided to just sit back and watch their respective teams get their #### handed to them by the Tigers by not EVER being aggressive.  As a Tigers fan I was shocked neither team bunted or stole a base in any game.  Without them doing either of those things you know they never once tried a hit and run.

3.  They didn't show any confidence in certain players that they would step up.  Instead Torre hit A-Rod 8th in a game and Macha just let Frank Thomas slump his way through and abismal series.

Out of both American League series the Tigers won, only one player seamed to even show up and try and that is Milton Bradley.  He is the guy no one wanted because he is a cancer in the dugout.  Maybe he doesn't like losing or being around players that sit back and don't ever show any emotion.  Without emotions there can be no momentum, and I know you saw the Tigers players showing emotion.

Bert Blyleven droppin F bombs LIVE!
Sep 14, 2006 | 4:40PM | report this
This is just another reason why trained profesionals should be in the booth before former athletes.  As you may have read below I went off on this subject a little.  Bert is a fine announcer and I think it is pretty funny. You can watch it here!  I am not sure what is worse though, an announcer dropping F bombs on accident or announcers that sound like they have a mouth full of marbles.  I recently went off on this subject because of the lack of talent on air these days.  Bert isn't one of those bad ones though which is why it makes it funnier.

If you missed the rant here it is:

Announcers have changed in recent years. More and more former athletes have gone into the booth. It has actually made the way games are called worse in my opinion. You don’t need to have played the game to break it down or give insight. But you do need to be able to actually speak correctlyand communicate your thoughts. Having watched almost every team in preseason telecasts on NFL Network it is pretty common to have just bad announcers in general. Here in Detroit we had a former Lion Kelvin Pritchett in the booth with long time announcer Frank Beckman. Kelvin has got to go though. It is embarrassing to have a guy calling a game when he sounds so uneducated. One small example, Kelvin repeatedly called Mike Martz - Mikes Mart and has the infamous annunciation of the double f instead of the th. What I mean is instead of Smith it is Smiff. Having someone in the booth just because they are a former player is a waste of time and money. The people that deserve to be in the booth are trained professionals and people with top notch communication skills. Three people in the booth is even better though. I know I pick on Kelvin but it isn’t just him and it is a very tough job to do. However there are much higher qualified people to call games that may be trying to get their break and are calling minor sports on the radio. Hey we all want guys to get chances in the NFL as head coaches that have earned it, why not in the ####?

Comebacks
Aug 08, 2006 | 2:59PM | report this

Comebacks can come in all shapes and forms and I am about to take you through some that have come to mind. Comebacks are what we love about sports, among other things, but what does it take to have a comeback? Well lets see.

With a player it takes a complete turn of events from recent history, such as injuries or appearing to be finished as an athlete. In a game, it takes all the players on a team to stay focused and battle through all adversities that may come there way until the end when they comeback. I will show you some examples of comebacks and would like you to comment on one of your best/favorite comebacks. It can be recent, past, or most memorable.

Baseball- comeback players/team of the year

1. Magglio Ordonez - Maggs has comeback from a knee injury that ended his days in Chicago the season before they won the World Series. Magglio only played 52 games in 2004 and 82 games last year for Detroit. Not only is Magglio Ordonez tearing it up this season, he returned to the All-Star game as well as leading his team to the best record in baseball to this point with a whopping 10 game lead on any team in baseball. This year Maggs is hitting .298 with 16 hr and 79 rbi.

2. Jim Thome - He is somewhat similar to Maggs in the fact he making his comeback from an injury in which he only played in 59 games last year in Philly. Although the Phillies didn’t just let their star walk, they were able to trade him and get Aaron Rowand. This year he has been crushing the ball. He currently is hitting .304 with 34 hr and 85 rbi. Last season was the first season since 1995 in which Thome did not hit at least thirty home runs, last season he only hit seven. This year he has comeback to form.

3. Nomar Garciaparra - Nomar was going to be considered but he yet again has been sidelined with injuries again in 2006. When he has been in this year he has been lights out hitting .327 with 12 hr and 57 rbi. But the problem with Nomar, he hasn’t played in more than 81 games for anyone since 2003 in Boston. Will Nomar ever comeback?

4. Detroit Tigers - this is an epic comeback! The tigers were 43-119 in 2003, this year they have the best record in baseball by a full 10 games at this point. This is also the best start to any season for Detroit in the entire history of the franchise. In 1984(way back when Uncle Rico could still throw a football over those mountains, and still reeling from his coach not putting him in and his team not winning the state championship) the Tigers had their highest win total of 104. Right now they are on pace to win around 110 games.

NFL players and teams -

Terrell Owens - can he comeback healthy enough in body and mind and put together an actual season this year. He has Drew Bledsoe and Bill Parcells but he can always find a way to blow that too. He may have been right every time he exploded on the sidelines or ran his mouth to the media and other players with the words he was saying. But hey, if you can dish it out you better be ready to eat some too. If those players and offensive coordinators were so bad at making mistakes, you don’t call them out in front of the world. Because that is being a bad teamate. Terrell, comeback to reality and show the world who is the best receiver in football, not the worst teammate.

Jon Kitna - Jon gets another chance to finish off his career on a good note. When he was in Cincinnati he was part of the building block for the foundation they don’t call the "Bunguls" anymore. He was to hold down the team until Heisman trophy winning first round pick Carson Palmer was ready. Now he gets to run a new offense in Detroit led by Mike Martz as the coordinator. He was the comeback player of the year in the NFL in 2004. And if you don’t think he can get the best out of Kitna you don’t know anything about Mike Martz.

Javon Walker - He gets his shot this year in Denver to be the man. After blowing out his knee in the season opener last year in Detroit, Javon was sidelined for the whole season. Now he is going to comeback and he is ready to go. We just don’t know where he is going to go with Jake Plummer at quarterback.

Brett Favre - If Brett is poised for this honor. If anyone can be a comeback player it is him. He is a legend for a reason. The legends and true champions always find a way to come back in the end so it wouldnt suprise me to see Brett have one last comeback.

Seattle and Philadelphia, will they both comeback to the NFC Championship game this year and contend for the Super Bowl. Philly was absent after the whole T.O. debacle and Seattle is poised to make another run for the title. Seattle may comeback, Philly, they need to learn how to run the ball before they comeback.

Three quarterback making a comeback or sorts. Carson Palmer, Daunte Culpepper, and Ben Roethlisberger are all coming back from serious injuries. NFL fans around the leaguwill be anxious to have their star players on the field. Everyone knows how much of a factor injuries are in the NFL.

Cycling -

Floyd Landis’ comeback at the Tour De France this year was epic after the kind of crash he had. It was almost as if he were helped in some way. Not really, knowing what little I do about testosterone, it takes a long time for you to get any results from what ever it is you are using. Floyd, stay strong if you are innocent because this whole thing is fishy year after year and it has already gotten old accusing so many of doping and the testing system having so many bad tests.

Comeback lines of the day -

Yo mama is so fat, when I yelled into her belly button I heard an echo!

Yo mama so stupid that she sold her car for gas money!

How about some go aways!

How about all the NFL players getting in trouble on the Bengals and Bears. Daven Holly of the Bears and Chris Henry of the Bengals got arrested on weapons charges, Henry didn’t stop there though. Henry managed to get picked up for drunk driving, posseision of marijuans, and giving alcohol to underage women. This between these two teams is so long and you have probably heard all about it. Not to mention Barrett Brooks (OL) for the Steelers tried to out run cops on a motorcycle and got caught, after trying to ditch his bike, and then get back on and run again. Sean Taylor of the Redskins who recently was sentenced on gun charges was fined by the NFL $71,000 and has community service until he is of retirement age.

Sellouts
Jul 23, 2006 | 12:18PM | report this

I was thinking about all the different types of sellouts around sports and I think I have come up with a few different examples of how many different ways Players, teams, and or fans are sellouts or will sellout. In no order of significance.

1. Yankee fans selling out on A-rod. It is already happening in New York that many fans and reporters are willing and advocating the trade Alex Rodriguez. Trust me now is not the time to bail out on the youngest player to hit 450 HRs because he is the highest paid player of anything in the World. This is the same guy that the Yankees traded Alphonso Soriano for and have been rumored to want to reacquire. The Yankees and fans sold out on Soriano in trading him, the fans and media are selling out on A-Rod and Brian Cashman (ironically named in being the Yankees GM) has sold out the Yankees future by making far too many trades.

When the Lions open up their season and the Tigers close theirs down, it would have been possible to sellout two games on the same intersection of downtown. The Lions continually sellout the home games and the Tigers have been selling outain and are making a playoff run which in turn may be the only way they would be able to have the two-fer of sellouts in October. Being the great sports town that Detroit is, the fans would sellout both games for sure.

The Titans drafted Lindale White as well. Brown's agent, Wynn Silbermann, formerly asked for a trade last week. Brown and his agent believe being traded away from a crowded backfield is his best career move. To me that tells me he is either not competitive or just does not believe he is good enough to get the bulk of the carries. How much does he think he is really going to get as a free agent? I am not looking for a player who wants out at the first sight of serious competition for his job. To me he is just a
sellout.

4.
Monday Night Football is a sellout for selling out to itself. They moved MNF to ESPN this year and changed the crew up. To me if they were really looking for an improvement in ratings, they would have made adjustments to the actual games! There were so many things to tweak but they never really did anything bout the actual games. They should have had more variety of teams on, less Packers (so we didn't have to hear Madden say Brett Favre's name over 100 times per and besides he is washed up now, move on!), and had an 8 O'clock start time EST. They should have had some signs that the games didn't mean anything because there wer so many games that weren't sold out.

Will he stay or go?5. The Brewers and Carlos Lee are sellouts. The fans of the Brew Crew are the big losers in this though. The Brewers need to trade Carlos Lee or resign him to a multi year deal. The fans have not had a World Series contender since 1982 and have never even won the World Series. They need to run the team less like a business and more like a team that wants to win. How about making a run for once instead of setting new lows in mediocrity. The Brewers and Detroit Lions are like distant sports cousins I guess, but do they both Sellout on their fans?  Either way they have never won it all.  The Lions only claim to a chamtpionship in way back in 1957 before it was even called the Super Bowl.

sellout6.  Maurice Clarrett was a sellout to the team that made him famous, the Ohio State Buckeyes.  He was also a sellout to the fans of OSU, and he was a sellout to coachs of OSU.  Then to top it off he sold out his NFL career by having a year off.  He then sold out his future when he was arrested for aggrevated robbery.  He is now better known for non football activities, which is not good.
