Kiffin Out, Green In?
Jan 25, 2008 | 9:53PM | report this
Al Davis is at it again.  He is looking to bring in yet another new coach to the Raiders.  After only one season in Oakland, Raiders owner Al Davis wants Lane Kiffin to resign.  Davis would like to bring in former Cardinals and Vikings head coach Dennis Green.

In a story from ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen:

"Davis has gone so far as to draft a letter of resignation for Kiffin to sign, a source said. Kiffin has refused to do so but has dared Davis to fire him instead. The letter, the source said, was sent to Kiffin two weeks ago.

Kiffin, who was 4-12 in his first season as coach, has two years remaining on his contract at an estimated $2 million per year.

In the letter sent to Kiffin's legal representatives, Davis stated that only he would have control over his staff and full personnel decisions, sources said. According to a source close to Kiffin, Davis had promised Kiffin when he hired him that he would have more control over staff and personnel matters than recent Raiders coaches. Kiffin was allowed five offensive assistants and to name his own staff when he took the job after the 2006 season."

This would be the fourth head coach in four years for the Raiders and fifth coach in six years.  The secret to success is not instability.  Maybe Al's last face lift was a little to tight and it has since impaired his judgement.

Kiffin had more than just being a rookie head coach against him last season.  He had no stability in many important positions.  He started three different QBs in McCown, Culpepper, and #1 pick JaMarcus Russell.  He also had three different starting RBs as well in Fargas, Jordan, and Rhodes.  Lets not forget that there was a reason why Oakland had the number one overall pick in the first place.  Kiffeen took over the worst team in the NFL.

Lane Kiffin like many coaches should be given at least one more year.  That way Oakland could bring in Bill Cower, a proven winner and hard nosed coach.  Just what the Raiders need.  Besides with Dennis Green, HE IS WHAT WE THOUGHT HE WAS!  Is this really the task that Dennis Green wants or needs to take on at this point of his life?

Remember Al Davis is the same man who said John Gruden couldn't win the big game.  After trading Gruden to Tampa Bay Gruden then proiceeded to spank the Raiders in the BIG GAME the very first year.  That should have been his first clue that he has lost his touch.

I think Kiffin is a great coach and should be given a chance to complete his 10 year plan. In 2018, if the Raiders haven't made the playoffs yet, cut him loose and go after Green. I also believe that Fonzy should stay in as controlling partner and run the team just as he has been over the last half dozen years. He is really on a roll now, just let the man work. They will kiss and make up.

Al Davis was onced looked upon as well respected and successful in the NFL. Now he has made a mockery of the Raiders. They have no consistency, and have struggled for many years. Granted, maybe some of the coaches they have hired weren't the best or the right man for the job. Most of their player acquisitions have been busts(Example-Moss)and their drafts have been poor as well. It is about time to look at the 1 constant in this mess and that is Davis. Players and Coaches have come and gone and the Raiders still suck. Why doesn't he just don a headset and coach. Thats what he does anyway--just not on the sideline. I think it is time that he take a clue from the Dolphins and hire a man like Parcells and then step back into the shadows and just sign checks...leave the football to men that the game hasn't passed by. Cowher would be a great hire but it won't ever happen...everyone knows that working for Davis isn't worth the headache. They have been terrible since Gruden left and were terrible in between Flores and Gruden. Give it up Al

after 4 "whoops" messages..............If the Raiders had not won any Super Bowls I would call them the west coast Lions.

I like how Al Davis traded Gruden to Tampa because he couldn't win the big game. Then proceeds to lose to Gruden in the Super Bowl the very first year!

I think the game passed AL by many years ago. I wouldnt care about these coaching changes if our drafts had not been cosistently bad. We need a NEW owner and a serious GM to evaluate talent. How many, totally wasted drafts have we had???

Al needs to be put out to pasture!

Hi Bob!

I heard that it was all news to Dennis Green. He said in so many words that everytime the Raiders job comes open his name pops up... Didn't sound like Dennis was too interested. Who can blame him?

The Raiders salvation is for Al to sell out...

I did hear a good one! It sounds like the Stl Louis Rams are upside down now that Ms. Ram is gone... Sounds like son Rosenbloom might consider moving back to LA! They claim the dome stadium in St. Louis wasn't built too well and is starting to become costly. They are pushing for a new stadium and probably just another team using LA to get what they want... It's something else.

Later!

Dwindy- that is great news about the Rams. It just isnt right for LA to only have one profesional team (USC) in LA.......jk

Most fans dont even remember the Rams being in LA, but most also dont remember the Cardinals in St. Louis which they got from Chicago........lol

The Raider nation needs to ban together and do something about good ol' Al. i have been a fan since i was 8yrs old and i have to say this is the worst this team has been, I'm talking about an all-time low. we the fans need to let Al know who makes his world go round it is us, my fellow nation do not go to games do not buy team merchandise, and do not watch games and lets see how far into the season Al can make it with out us to line his pockets cause i am tired of him screwing us out of winning seasons

To all the TRUE RAIDER FAN only one thing matter. We don't really care who coaching, playing, or complaining. All a real true raider fan care about is winning! That all we care about. Al davis in or out, we don't care. What we want is 3 more rings to shut up our friends sayin who the best team is. When we get 3 more rings, Noone can say nothing to us. Because we can alway say " your team is good with five super bowl rings but the raiders did it for decades" There is no such thing as a fair weather raider fan, because it in our d.n.a. to be a raiders fan. For us to hate the raiders you would have to hate yourself. Go to any bar anywhere in the states and you will find a raider fan. We bleed black and silver. Now Al Davis do need to get his act together, because we are tired of losing, year after year. But nobody is more tired than Al Davis believe that! If we get Bill we be back on track if we don't, We still going to play games and play to win. That how a TRUE RAIDER FAN FEEL. Everything else is for the other 31 teams that don't matter to us.

Well, what about not looking to far from what was in the Bay.. I love Maucci..... He was a players coach, had a great mind and is part of that whole Green Bay old staff that had all the minds and good football coaches... I know things didn't go well in Detriot.... but lets give it to a Ex old Raider(Millen) he following his leader Davis into the depths of hell on how to run a team! I love my Raiders, but Davis needs to let go of his power of control on coaches and how it should be run.. He is removed many yrs from coaching himself and the game has changed 3 times over already.

I'm so frickin tired of Al Davis PERIOD!!! I've been a die hard raider fan for 12 seasons and i'm sick and tired of our "hall of famer coach" F@CKN it up for ALL of us fans!!!

I know Kiffin is a great coach with solid potential and smarts to bring this organization back on track. But as long as our "soon to be very HATED" owner MAKE his retarded calls, The RAIDERS team and it's DIE HARD FANS wont see or even dream about playoffs or even maybe going to the SB any time.

Al Davis, if you are reading this post, please do your team, staff and most important, your fans a big favor and step down from office or.....

F@CKEN DIE YOU PIECE OF SH@TT!!!

RAIDER FANS WANT VICTORIES NOT NEW COACHES!!!

I could never wear another jersey other than silver & black but i'm tired of losing. After this season, if we lose Kiffin, I'm going to stop buying raider gear & stuff also, i'm not going to root for any team until Davis complies with my wishes and demands.

GO RAIDERS!!!! COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE!!!!

here we go again... how are the raiders ever going to be back to the promised land with a new coach every year? that means new systems for the players to learn and a new coach to develop chemistry with.
