We see it every year, lately from the Colts, but the Bears have done it as well. We see a team dominate all season long and finish with a great record. Then when the playoffs come, they are one and done. This year there are a few reasons I don't see the Bears even winning the NFC Championship. Here are a few of them.
1. Defense wins championships, but not if your QB makes mistakes. Rex Grossman may be the demise to the Bears, again. That defense is not only fast but play very smart as well. Never mind the last couple of weeks that they have given up a few more points than they should have to teams like the Lions, Bucaneers, and the Rams. They have been giving up more than 26 PPG the last three weeks. This is not the big question though because they have had the NFC North and home field through out the playoffs wrapped up for a few weeks now. They have rested slightly injured players and gun toting d-lineman for the playoffs and they haven't had a whole lot to play for other than pride in almost a month.
2. Because they haven't had to play for a whole lot in so long it may be harder to turn on that championship roster than expected. This doesn't include the first round bye they have either.
3. The game changing plays that won so many of their games this year may not happen in the playoffs. If the Bears play teams that don't turn the ball over what are they going to do? So many times this year the Bears had huge plays on defense that they scored on or pulled away with. Playoff teams don't always mistakes when it matters, that is why they made the playoffs in the first place.
4. Devin Hester has had a great season and his kick returns for touchdowns made a huge difference, especially when the bears needed a play. Chances are he wont have a return for a touchdown in the playoffs so the Bears may not be able to get a spark from him when they need one.
5. Rex Grossman almost single handedly lost 3-5 games this year but the defense and special teams made up the difference, if Chicago has a chance, Rex needs to just NOT blow it.
6. They have 2 of 3 parts of the team equasion. Defense, special teams, and a sub par offense can win it all. But to really be able to not rely on one or two things you need to have all three. The Patriots are a symbol of that. If the Bears can get all three together in time, they will make it to the Super Bowl, I just don't see it happening.
I don't think it is the Eagles, either. I think the Saints are this year's Stillers--the ones the NFL are pushing to win for their Cinderella/feel good story. And they have enough talent going on right now to make it legitimately. I don't know that the Bears are one and done, but I don't think they take the NFC.
The bears by far had one of the easiest schedules in the NFL, a Easy, very easy schedule. They played one Guaranteed playoff team: the N.E Pats, in which they lost. and the played 4 wild card hopefuls jets, giants, rams, and packers. They had a very cupcake Schedule. Guess what? Rex looked good in less than half of those games. This team is a replica of last years team. Except...Special teams is a HELL of a lot better, and their Compition in the NFC North got worst.

Nobody is talking about the Seahawks. In this NFC you can't count out these guys. They had arguably the best team in San Diego on the ropes last week. In fact they flat out should have won that game. As we know they lost Shaun Alexander for about 6 games and Matt Hasselbeck for about 4. That makes a huge difference.
Am I saying that they'll go all the way to the Super Bowl again? No necessarily, but their chances are as good as any other NFC team right now. If the underachieving defense gets back on track, then I like their chances even better.
Riv: Maybe if they wake up this morning in the middle of "Groundhog Day" the movie and it is this time last year. Granted they were better last week than they have been all season, but, for some reason, they seem to be all too schizoid this year. If the O works, then the D doesn't. If the D works, then special teams is totally out to lunch. Not that I wouldn't intensely like to see them go on, but I'm not holding my breath until I turn blue.
the Bears also played the ViQueens, Lions, and Packers twice, thrown in the Cardinals, Bucaneers, Bills, and 49ers without playing any top tier teams and you may have a fraud team here. When they played the Pats they got beat
riv - no one is talking about the Seahawks because they are 8-7 and could go into the playoffs 8-8. Not exactly the makings for bandwagon hoppers to try to get on
