MLB and NFL rumors and thoughts
May 23, 2006 | 7:19AM | report this
NFL

Tennessee Titans- Former San Francisco 49er first round pick Ahmed Plummer has played only nine games in the past two years after a succession of injuries. Twelve-year veteran Ty Law picked off 10 passes for the New York Jets in 2005, but also comes with a high price tag and, even more troubling, a warning label. They have had both in this month to see what interest each player has in Tennessee and a decision will come soon.

Sapp headed to Detroit?Detroit Lions- Warren Sapp a Lion?  The Lions released Dan Wilkinson yesterday in a move that suprised some.  He has talked about retirement all off-season.  He also has pending law suits in Maryland from a restaurant deal he had going from his Redskins days that didn't work out.  Ironically his lack of working out is what got him cut from Detroit. New head coach Rod Marinelli wants players who want to play and put in the extra effort needed to turn the franchise around.  Since Wilkinson was paid pretty well, that money can be used to pursue other free agents, if any players become available who might interest the Lions. There has been speculation in Oakland that the Raiders might part company with Warren Sapp, who had a strong relationship with Marinelli with the Buccaneers.

Pittsburgh Steelers- Joey Porter missed the first week of the Steelers' voluntary workouts, and now the question is whether he will participate in any of them.  Porter, a Pro Bowl linebacker, attended the team's mandatory three-day minicamp May 13-15 but was the only veteran absent from all four of their follow-up voluntary sessions last week at their UPMC training facility on the South Side.  He has two years left on a contract he signed in February 2004. He is scheduled to earn a salary of $3.85 million this year, and earn $5 million in 2007, which includes a $1 million roster bonus.

MLB

New York- take your pick which New York team picks up Dontrell Willis.  Both have had scouts following him the last two weeks.  He has had a slightly down season on a team that sold everyone else off before the season even started.  He was kept because he is still very young and has not had his first big pay day yet.

Royals players and coaches struggle to keep their heads upKansas City- The Royals are now 19 games back of Detroit in the AL Central.  It is only May 23rd.  Yes their season is done and they will be unloading some players.  They made several off-season free agent signings and nothing has worked for them this year.  The biggest reason is they didn't sign pitching.  They have several veteran players they can trade off that may bring them plenty of young prospects for a team that has traded off every prospect that has every come to fruition for them.

Washington Nationals- Alfonso Soriano may also be headed out of town very soon.  He has been rumored to be traded since the time he was traded to Washington.  He may be headed toi the Mets, White Sox, Philadelphia, or St. Louis.

Los Angeles- If Morales struggles, the Angels will turn to the trade market, with Arizona first baseman Tony Clark considered a possible target. Clark is an attractive short-term option because he is signed only through this season and, because he's stuck behind young first baseman Conor Jackson, wouldn't cost as much as some of the front-line players the Angels are pursuing, such as Alfonso Soriano and Shea Hillenbrand.  The Angels are 11 games below .500 and in last place, a perfect fit for Tony Clark.  Ask any Detroit Tigers fan.

I know I dont have a shot at either contest because I have only been here a month. I see some "ok" blogs having 30-40 posts on them because the people have been here a while. Maybe next year :(

Uh, stop that train for a moment. I haven't heard a WORD about Sapp wanting out of Oakland. The team didn't draft any DTs and just lost two (Ted Washington and Ed Jasper) so this makes no sense.

Norcalfella- this has more legs than you think. The Raiders are also looking for players that get cut to play DT. Sapp never said he wanted out though

Yeah we'll see.

It would be a stupid move. He played well at the tail end of last year and now has two good DE's to play between on passing downs since they brought back Johnstone from his Minnesota vacation.

Plus, he needs to stick around so he can show Hawthorne the ropes. It's not like they can't sign their draft picks because they are mostly offensive linemen so I really don't understand the logic.

There has been speculation in Oakland that the Raiders might part company with Warren Sapp, who had a strong relationship with Marinelli with the Buccaneers. I dont really want him on the Lions because we need more DBs

Bob - Not to sound like a ####, but that's almost verbatum what you said in the piece (above). Where is this coming from? Source?

you dont know him, them or it so it doesn't matter. Besides he is still a Raider, what does it matter?

Well, it matters from the standpoint that you are trying to sound credible when talking out of your ####.

If you have a source, give it. If the source is one of your pals at the bar, say so.

Again, I'm not trying to be a #### but you are setting yourself up here and I've called you out. Sadly, you weren't really up to the task.

Norcalfella- calling me out, all you need to do is open and read a few freakin articles on the internet and know one person to call to ask about it. give it up, and yes you are being a ####. Are you telling me you didnt even read this anywhere else?

Um, yeah. That is exactly what I'm saying. If you have a source then QUOTE it when someone questions the authority (read: me) of what you are printing.

"When the Raiders gather again next month, Sapp says, he definitely will be there."

Now, has something changed in the past few weeks? If it has, let me know where you're getting your information. If you're full of #### then just say so and be done with it.

I never said he wanted out, quit being a #### because your favorite #### team may do something stupid and you werent the first person to know about it. I can tell you two of the sources the third is no one you know, trust me. The biggest source is a DETROIT paper. Are you happy you got one of them?

How hard was that?

No need to call me a ####. It only brings you down and people on here will think a lot less of you for it. Had you just said "Detroit newspaper" several comments up it would've been fine.

Now this is probably on the popular list and you're going to look like a total jerk.

who cares where I got anything from. and yes you were being a ####. Besides a friend gave me the heads up on it and I would never say his name. A detroit newspaper put a blurb about it in an article so I asked about it. Then I read an article about it, but like I said, who CARES where I got it from. This is a blog not the New York Times, I could say Sapp has three nipples if I wanted to right? I dont though, look at the rest of my blogs before asking me to tell you stuff you dont need to know. Where else do most people get their info? You were attacking me like I had zero credibility and kept saying "I don't want to sound like a ####" and you were sounding like a ####.
