Mario Williams #1

#1 to the Texans

Well it turns out that Mario Williams is the man. The Houston Texans today announced that they will select Mario Williams from N.C. State. Charlie Casserly says it is a football decision and they have reached a tentative contract of six years, $54 million.

This is not what most Texans fans ever really wanted. Most want Vince Young from Texas. That is not really what the team needs however. They believe that Mario Williams fits their 4-3 defense perfectly. The Texans already have a 1,000 yard running back and a number one draft pick of David Carr at quarterback.
Reggie Bush may go to New Orleans but they have Deuce McCallister. He would NOT slip past the Jets (who don’t need a quarterback anyway) at number four. The Titans will be taking a quarterback with the number three pick. The Titans are interested in all three top prospects at quarterback.  But will it be Leinart or Young though in Tennessee?

New Mock draft without any trades made in the top ten.

1. Houston Texans - Mario Williams - DE - N.C. State

2. New Orleans Saints - Reggie Bush - USC

3. Tennessee Titans - Vince Young - Texas

4. New York Jets  -  D'Brickshaw Ferguson - OT - Virginia

5. Green Bay Packers -  A.J. Hawk - OSU

6. San Fransisco 49er's - Vernon Davis - TE - Maryland

7. Oakland Raiders - Michael Huff - DB - Tex

8. Buffalo Bills - Donte Whitmer S - OSU

9. Detroit Lions - Ernie Sims - LB - FSU

10. Arizona Cardinals - Matt Leinart - USC

(edited after the draft to cover up my terrible mock draft.  Plus a lot of people didnt read this small print and think I am a genius!)

Uh, if the Saints pass on Bush I will drop dead so please send an ambulance to my house.

If Tennessee then also passes I am going to return from the dead and haunt your blog.

Seriously, I just can't see New Orleans saying "no thanks" to a guy who immediately gives them everything they sought when signing Michael Bennett off the Vikings, only "reality" instead of "potential". They will kick MB to the curb and be back in business offensively the way things were when Brooks was going strong.

Then again, I hope you're right because if Leinart falls to the Raiders I will immediately buy a #11 jersey and leave it on until the season starts. I might even have to shower in it.

The Jets do not need a quarterback? Get serious . . . Chad Pennington sure isn't going to come through!

I just looked at MArios's highlight film and to be perfectly honest with you he is no first pick.
The potential is undoubtedly there but I just didn't see enough. In the NFL making tackles the way he was making them is not going to happen. He showed no moves or counter moves so in the NFL the run around the horn thing won't work every play. He looks like a slow olb. I just didn't see enough from MArio I wish him luck but not enough

What are the Texans thinking? Yes Mario Williams has a lot of upside. But there are some serious questions here. Ten of his 14½ sacks in 2005 in just three games and against lesser opponents and in 2004 half of his 6 sacks came in one game. Take out those 4 games and he has 7.5 sacks in 20 games. That's a lot of faith in a number one pick. So instead o####uaranteed game breaker the Texans get a possibility of dominance. When he feels like it. That's why the Texans will continue to be bad, they not only can't evaluate talent, they can't make the simplest of decisions easily. They could have traded down and got some picks if this was their plan. Just plain stupid.

The Texans are making a mistake in my opinion. Besides if the Lions would not have made that last second field goal against the Saints they would be picking number two today, and we would be celebrating the Bush era in Detroit.

And no the Jets do NOT need anymore quarterbacks. Boxcharts...how much cash can you put into ONE position? They do not need a quarterback, if they get on they need to gety one late in the draft. Why did they just trade for Patrick Ramsey if they are going to draft a quarterback with their first pick?

I am the number three ranked tetherball player in the world.
Why Texans? I could have seen an O line man I could have seen a deal to get an O line man and keep the number one pick but MArio?
I hope he isn't a bust!! For his sake.

I dont think a DE needs that kind of Number 1 pressure. You just cant produce like someone who will get the ball 10 - 15 times a game. The stats dont compare unless the DE has 10 or more sacks. They should have traded down and tried to take DBrickshaw so Carr can get some blocking.

BTW, did you like the links I attached?
