Horry...a cheapshot ONLY to the biased media! Another Must-Read from BBing
May 16, 2008 | 12:25PM | report this
Get me a break! Horry's totally LEGAL pick/screen on West is a cheap shot? You gotta be kidding me! Has the NBA become the WNBA? I apologize to the ladies of the WNBA (you gals ain't that SOFT). Does Emperor Stern's PC "dress code" mean a player needs to wear a pretty "dress"?

I can't believe it! I think if Horry gets suspended, fined, or even officially criticized by the league, then I will forever ever not watch the NBA. The soft fans probably think the NBA stands for...

National "B*tches" Association
National "Butterfly" Association
National "Buttercup" Association
"Neutered" Basketball Association

My friends, what Horry did was totally legit! He set a legal back screen on an opposing defender. That's basketball! So what if West had a tender back and Horry knew about it? If West was afraid to get hurt, stay home! It's like if Kirilenko injures Kobe's broken pinky on a block and gets called dirty or cheapshot. It's ridiculous!

The other hilarious argument is that people say that Horry did it "on purpose" or he "wanted" to hurt West. C'mon, you retards live inside Horry's mind? You guys know exactly what and how he thinks? And let's say that you are right about Horry's dirty intention, so what? He made a LEGAL play! It wasn't even a foul! Get over it!

Maybe you "cotton" lovers want the NBA to install a new rule.....red jackets for players with injuries. So Kobe should wear one tonight, and if any Jazz player seems or appears to be hurting Kobe on purpose (however legal their plays may be), they get rejected.

Welcome to the new NBA, where TOFU happens!

The more I think about the whole situation, the angrier I become. How come my beloved NBA is becoming so soft? Well, I can't explain the overall "baby-skin" trend. But my explanation for this particular incident is that the biased media just loves Steve Nash too much. I know I know, what does this have anything to do with Nash? But hear me out!

The Nash-loving media just can't get over the whole Horry-WWF-Nash incident last year. They just can't get over the fact that Horry fouling Nash, which led to the infamous suspensions, caused their golden boy his best chance at winning a ring or at least play in a Finals (so that their biased decision to give him two MVPs would actually become legit). Never mind Horry probably didn't think his hard foul would trigger Amare and Diaw to leave their bench retardedly (Horry couldn't be that smart and calculating). Never mind his so-called hard foul wan't even that hard! For God's sake, Nash didn't even get a scratch on him.

You see, my friends, the biased media loves to rewrite history. They know 20 years from now, when people look at this post-Jordan era (1998-2010), everyone will freak out over these stats....

Shaq....4 rings....1 MVP
Kobe....3 rings....1 MVP
Duncan....4 rings....2 MVPs
Nash....ZERO mins in a Finals....2 MVPs

They know with Mike "B*tch-face" D'Antoni in NY, Nash's championship window is pretty much closed. So they come up with plan B....

When some curious kid in the future asks...

"How come Shaq with 4 rings and being the most dominating player of his time, only got 1 MVP, while this small dude named Nash won 2 MVPs, without ever getting to at least the Finals, and despite playing with so many all-star teammates? Look, Dirk Nowitzky went to a Finals once, so did Kidd twice."

The biased media (looks all embarrassed) can then say...

"Well, my son, that's because Nash would have been won a ring in 2007 had it not been that cheap-shot Robert Horry."

The curious kid....

"Horry? You mean that guy with 7 rings and so many clutch shots? Why do you call him cheap shot?"

The biased media....

"Yes cheap shot. You want more evidence? He also cheap-shot David West the following season."

The kid (knowing it's just a lame excuse)....

"So it's all Horry's fault?".

The media (feeling so happy that West's injury provides a perfect coverup)....

"Absolutely."

So there you go....Horry's latest heroics is only a cheapshot if you want to excuse Nash from failing to advance to the Finals.

Here's the clip.

What you can't see about this clip, unless you are a Hornets fan, is that Darth Vader is just off camera, wearing a Spurs jersey and using the force to compel David West to run backwards without looking, and then jump into the air and stretch out his arms at the very instant he was about to bump into Robert Horry, who was standing well outside the no-charge circle with his feet set.

And why was Horry standing there in the first place with his wrists crossed at his belt line? Just prior to tipoff, Horry called Miss Cleo, his psychic, and was told to cut to the basket with 10:12 left in the game, and stand outside the key, because if he did, David West would leap backwards into the air and crash in to him and would have to leave the game. How else could Horry know how to make this dirty play look like an innocent back pick?

And of course this play had a critical impact on the game. When West went down, the Spurs were desperate because they were only leading by 21 points. But with West out of the way, the Spurs were able to give back some of that lead and win by just 19. Wahahaha!

Oh good grief!

West was grimacing all game about his back. It just happened this was the contact that set it off. West was in such distress that if it wasn't this play, it would have been another.

People can't HONESTLY think THIS is a dirty foul. Nice job, Bbing.

Robert Horry is probably the nicest man you'll ever meet. That play last night happens at least 7 times EVERY NBA game. David West had a scowl on his face before they even tipped off. Even the foul against Nash last year-Nash hit the scorers table and then decided he wanted to be a movie star. Not with that acting!!! Back to this year's playoffs-I hope the Spurs win because I'm so sick of hearing that "Whoooo" every time Chris Paul scores.

Awesome response! I love your sarcasm! We, the true hoops fans, all know that what Horry did was intentional but okay. Because basketball, at the NBA level, is not for kids, it's for real men!

jag,

Right on! Horry's foul wasn't even that on Nash. Nash totally overreacted. Too sad that his hockey/soccer flopping antics totally backfired.

As for Davis West, had the game been much closer, he wouldn't go down like chump. That just provided the perfect excuse to leave the arena earlier.

sizzleroo!

Kobe fully deserved the MVP this year. Didnt he?

as for Horry...

West was hurting, Horry knew it. Horry knocked him the F out. Horry knew what he was doing, but he did it in a way that he knew there would be no repercussions to him.

It wasnt a "dirty play", its just the mindset of the Spurs. Do whatever it takes to win a series, whether it be knock a guy into the scorers table, or ninja kick a dude in the face, or knee someone in the testicles, or set a hard back pick on someone you know has a gimpy back.

Its what the Spurs do. Its what their good at. Its why they have won so many championships in the last few years.

And its why I cant stand to watch them.

Sizzle,

Thanks for your sarcasm. The biased media is still biased despite after giving it to Kobe. Kobe deserves it more last year, and this year, it should have been Chris Paul.

They only biasely gave it to Kobe to cover up their biased choice of not giving it to him last year.

Man, I gotta stop using the word "bias".

quikdrummer,

My advice....watch the WNBA or the Chinese Basketball Association.

First, Horry knocking Nash into the scorer's table wasn't the reason why they won that series. It was Amare and Diaw retarded decision to leave their bench! That's the reason! Don't tell me that Horry knew beforehand what Amare and Diaw's reactions would be.

Second, so I guess the best way to play offense in the your NBA would be get a minor injury everywhere on your body...This way the defender can't touch you a bit without being called dirty.

Sizzle, it's okay, I know you were kidding!

Purely from this season's worth, CP3 is the MVP. But I guess since he is only 23 and Kobe, being the best player since MJ, has 0 after 12 years, the media once again "biasely" gave it to Kobe.

As a person who enjoys watching Kobe play, I am glad that he finally got one. But as an objective person who hates bias, it sucks!

That would be great!

Or better yet....

The Spurs up by 2, Horry body-checks Paul and gets called for a flagrant. Paul makes two FT and then West makes an in-Horry's-face jump shot to put the Hornets up by 2, 1 sec left, Spurs time-out, and the NO crowds goes crazy.....

Then....Big Shot Bob...deliever another....series winning 3pt shot to shut everyone up as time expires. West on the floor with agony, not from his TOFU back, but from forgetting to guard Horry.

That will be sweet!

your not hearing me bro

i DONT think it was a dirty play

i do think it was, not necessarily planned, but was definitely a situation that the Spurs looked for. I would bet cold hard cash that Pop looked at his guys and said hey, we know West's back is hurting. Lets make it hurt more.

And Horry had no idea what the benchs reaction would be when he checked Nash, but he knew what he was doing, and knew that one way or another, doing that would damage the Suns. Whether it be by Nash getting hurt, or something like what happened. Even if it just intimidated the Suns some, it would have worked.

How many times did Tony Parker drive to the lane after getting pummeled in game 5 in New Orleans? I could count on one hand.

All Im trying to say is the Spurs know how to take advantage of ANY weakness in the other team. And they will do what it takes to do so. Its why they win.

quikdrummer,

I apologize...I guess you didn't call that a dirty play.

But you did make that sound like it's a negative. I think every team in the NBA or sports in general should do what the Spurs do....win at all costs. Afterall, winning is not everything, but it's the only thing!

As for the Horry foul on Nash, c'mon, you are giving Horry too much credit. Maybe it was as simple as he was frustrated with Nash killing them all game long and decided to take his frustration out on Nash. I mean Horry is a basketball player, not a chess player or rocket scientist. He is not that manipulative or calculating.

Too bad for Nash for overreacting.

You people do realize don't you that the Scorer's table is not solid. The tables are covered with a vinyl tarp. In essence, Nash got knocked into a vinyl tarp. He lays there with his arms outflung like he is half dead. I thought he was hurt.

Then the rumpus starts between Horry and Bell, and Amare and Diaw come charging out onto the floor. Boy did Nash scramble up in a hurry. I said to mayself at the time "WTH, I thought he was hurt."

And the screen on West is no different than what we see several times in every game. The rule is that your feet have to be set and your arms have to be in close to the body, and you cannot extend your arms. You can move your upper body as much as you can as long as your feet stay on the floor. That is what Horry did. The foul call was very questionable, but we all know that when there is contact and one guy goes down, the foul gets called. If West had not gone down, there would have been no foul.

quik,

I guess you may be right about Pop. But I still think you are giving too much credit to Horry/Pop. They couldn't have known what was about to happen with Amare and Diaw. And as for them trying to hurt Nash....once again, that's not very likely. They could have tried to hurt Nash a million other better ways.

I guess it is your anti-Spurs bias, just like it's my anti-Suns bias.

Spurcse,

I can't agree with you more. I just can't stand how the media immediately brought up the Horry-Nash comparison. They act like that Horry-Nash "hard" foul was the first and only time an NBA player has given a hard foul on another player.

Their memory just proves that they can't get over it. They are still angry over their boy-toy Nash not getting a ring.

bb...if he didn't have a tender back, would there be as much complaining? Doubtful, ergo, the fact that he played injured means he's got a bullseye on his back.

A Bo Sox pitcher went on a 15-day DL for a torn fingernail...sigh. Wimps. Grow up!

Are they a dirty team? Maybe. Did they play fair? yes. Was it a legal pick? Looks that way. If West wasn't hurt, would he have recovered quicker? YES.

Like DTs and DEs don't go after Tom Brady when he is dinged up? Of course they do. If West can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Actually, Bbing, I honestly don't think Horry was trying to hurt West. I don't know how he could have thought that would have.

This injury is more Byron Scott's fault than anyone.

There were 10 minutes left in the game and the hole the Hornets dug for themselves in the 3rd quarter wasn't getting any shallower.

David West spent all of half time getting treatment for his back, and was clearly in distress the second half.

Byron Scott wanted to win so badly that, rather than pull his all star forward, he pushed him until he broke down.

I'm not saying Scott should have cleared his bench with 10 minutes left and a 21 point deficit, but David West clearly should NOT have been in the game.

Fortunately for the Hornets, they have a 3.5 day rest. That's more than you usually get between games in a series, so West has time to get better.

But Byron Scott rolled the dice very foolishly.

It was NOT likely that the Hornets would rally in San Antonio, especially when West had 4 fouls, a technical foul, and was shooting just 28%, and Chris Paul had 4 fouls.

Byron Scott gambled and lost, and his greed may have cost the Hornets the series, depending in part to David West's health on Monday.

Let's see if I can tell this right.

In tulsa we have this commercial in which a dad is standing with his son bragging about the deal he got buying a new fridge. He says he got the best price AND he demanded free delivery and they haul away the old fridge for free. All the while the kid is standing looking behind his dad at the delivery truck which says in big letters "WE GUARANTEE THE BEST PRICE, FREE DELIVERy AND HAUL OFF OLD FRIDGE".

Kids says "you're da man". Father says "yes I am".

LOL your story reminds me of this commercial. Horry did not cheap shot.

horry ....5 rings after the post jordan era..
back screens are a part of the game. the hornets are a team of role players led by the dynamic chris paul. west is a good player but he reminds me of a more athletic horace grant. chandler just cathches dunks and well stojacovic is a shooter that rarely shows when you need him, i'm going back to his sacramento days too. bottom line is, paul can only lead the hornets so far...
the league wants to see the old school classic matchups(mark my words on this) Boston vs. Detroit(Boston wins) and LA vs. Spurs(LA wins) Boston LA final with the action in vegas being very heavy. The battle of the dynasties in the both conference finals, historically speaking..detroit has a few championships to speak of... if the celtics prevail, it won't be because of allen, he plays no defense.kg and pierce will have to step it up. kobe looks like he's taking no prisoners on his quest for a ring without shaq.

The only shot DELIBERATELY given was by Byron Scott.

David West was too injured to be playing, especially at a time in a game when the Hornets had virtually no chance of winning.

Byron Scott put his all star forward in harm's way on the outside chance that the Hornets could over come a hopeless 21 point deficit, on the road, with disabled players, rather than concede game 6 and save his players for game 7 in New Orleans.

But the Hornets are blamers, and not exactly role models for a city that has shown more resilience than their basketball franchise.

First off, I would like to say that it was dirty. Nothing about the Spurs is not dirty. From Bowen to Manu to Horry, they are all dirty players. But dirty doesn't mean illegal. It's like knowing a football player has a hurt knee and going for every tackle around the knees. Horry put his hands in the small of West's back and leaned forward. He is a chump! And the Spurs fans are ridiculous for chanting Horry's name after someone is hurt on the court. Horry has only made shots in garbage time so he in no way deserves to have his name chanted. Bottom line is West was in the air and Horry moved under him and took him out while by coincidence putting his knuckles on the part of West's back that happens to be hurt. Come on guys, look at this as a basketball fan and not as a Spurs or Hornets fan. He won't get suspended, I mean Kidd didn't even get suspended when his flagrant foul was more obvious than Horry's. The only thing that will hurt Horry will be what he did to Nash last year, but the same reason you guys are getting on Nash is the same way Bowen, Oberto, Manu, and Parker act, floppers. In game 5, Chandler set a perfectly legal pick on Parker and knocked him to the ground and the refs called a foul, but I think the hornets will win Game 7 anyway, and I hope Horry plays too.

BBing, I've seen the clip of the pick by Horry and I don't believe he should be suspended or even spoken to about his actions yesterday. But the scrutny and criticism comes Horry's way because of his cheap shot given to Steve Nash in last year's playoffs which he will never live down – certainly not in the state of Arizona. It appears as Horry’s skills have declined that his purpose on the court is not for his clutch shot making ability anymore but to act as some kind of watered down version of an enforcer - so if he is willing to accept that role, then he must accept the criticism that will come from it.

LAhoopsfan24,

Hate is blind.

Lol.

Horry's hands are CLEARLY below his waist covering his 'nads (and thus below West's back) when West collides with him.

Horry was completely set BEFORE West jumped, his feet don't move, West was looking at the ball and didn't know Horry was there.

How can you look at the replay and say you see a "dirty" play?

I don't think the media has any reason to call Horry a cheap shot but I do think that it was planned out. Its the way the Spurs play, but I think it is #### that Spurs fans are getting upset because they claim West flopped and was acting hurt. Well the next time Ginobli falls to the floor and ACTS hurt I dont think you have anything to complain about. I mean come on you guys have that advantage: Flops West: 1 - Ginobli, Duncan, and Parker: too many to count.

Horry set himself up for the media scrutiny by body-checking Nash last year. Robert must have thought because Steve was a Canadian, he wouldn't mind a hip check into the boards.

Similarly, Horry knew that a little massage was all D-West needed for his aching back.

It was not a dirty play. It's playoff basketball--and the Hornets should make him pay with a similar action. Taking out Manu's gimpy ankle may be a good place to start. Within the game of course, I wouldn't want a Hornet to be called for a foul to do it.

Horry wasn't....

That was a clean play by Horry. Unless the Spurs advance and Horry hits Kobe's finger, Pau's back, Lamar's shoulder, and D-Fish's foot, injuring them all, then I don't think he does it on purpose. Nash flopped and Kobe should have 3 or 4 MVP's by now instead of Nash having 2 and Dirk having 1.

THANK YOU ALL FOR RESPONDING!

I guess you are missing my main point somewhat.

To me or anyone who has follwed the NBA for a long time and appreciates the physicalness of the league, Horry's foul on West was just a regular post-season play, nothing more.

To anyone who hates the Spurs or love the Hornets, I can see why you want to label it as a cheapshot or dirty play. I understand where you are coming from, but I disagree with your conclusion.

bbing168

But my main point was that the media, without any hesitating, jumped right into comparing Horry's foul on West to Horry's bodycheck on Nash.

Just think about it, Horry's foul on Nash was just one of ~1000s plays that happened last year playoff, yet the biased media remembers it the most. They remember it too well for just a foul. They can't forget it. It's tatooed in their brains, just like Jordan's shot on Ehlo, Magic's baby hook, or Bird's steal on Isiah.

They act like Horry's bodycheck on Nash is some kind of defining moment in NBA history. They want to define Horry's and Nash's careers by that play.

bbing168

To the biased media,

Horry, despite of so many clutch shots in his career and 7 rings, is now just the guy who made THE play that prevented the golden boy from winning a ring or justifying his two undeserved MVPs.

Nash, despite of not coming through on the ultimate stage repeatedly, is just bad luck. It's not that he can't lead a team to the promise land, it's just that Horry's dirty play prevented him.

10 years from now, if you ever talk to a member of Nash worshippers (the biased media and Suns fans). As soon as you bring up the topic that Nash is the best player never to even play in a Finals.

I bet my life that the first thing that member will say is....

To me, it's like Craig Sager's interviews. He isn't trying to get a story, he is trying to MAKE one by baiting players into saying certain things.

The media may not care a lick about Horry, or Nash, or West.

They might just be trying to stir up a controversy to sell papers, magazines and television and web advertisements.

Hornets fans bit the bait, and here we all are debating this as a result, all under the banner ad of the Buick Enclave.

:-(

We are all merely the puppets of Madison Avenue!

No need to retaliate during the game. Hornets fans will just use a lil Voodoo to get even. A gris gris on Manu and Parker is all it will take to win this game 7.

Since Ricko and many others cannot handle my educational background, let's just pretend that I am a high school drop-out, who can barely do simple mathematics and can't read and write very well. I do however work at Stanford (they suck at any sports that matter). Mainly a basketball and football guy (NBA rules and Coach K sucks!). Okay with baseball, hockey, tennis, and golf. Soccer is for short guys who can't jump. Love hot Asian girls (don't know why?)
Time stamping is done in Pacific Time.
