Every season there comes a team that turns out to be a giant killer and recent history has shown these teams come from the most unusual suspects such as East Carolina, South Florida, Troy and a host of others. But this giant killer took on the form of a 5’6” running back named Jacquizz Rodgers. Sure 5’6” riding a on a Horse a horse named Traveler, a horse that was beaten to death by a Beaver that has been renamed running little beaver aka Jacquizz Rodgers.
The amazing part of all this is that the national media proclaimed USC as one team that was already penciled in for the BCS NC game in January. They also proclaimed that this USC defense was the best defense at USC since the arrival of Pete Carroll. Well the reality is the little Beaver ran right at the heart of this so called vaunted defense at peeled 186 yards off of them. Again, so you understand the little beaver ran right up the gut and into the heart of the pride of USC defense and made their defensive front four and linebackers look like a bunch of freshman players that just got off the bus and held their first scrimmage.
Every team from here on out will be studying that film and they will notice what I said at the very beginning of the year. And that is USC’s defense is not as good as people advertised. USC has won its games by outscoring its opponents and holding on with a defense that bends then breaks. The facts are there for everyone to see in every loss they have had.
USC’s next Hollywood quarterback, as it is proclaimed every year, looks hurt to me. While Pete Carroll states the brace is a precaution just as when you wear a seat belt in a car. But as I watched this kid I noticed he has mobility issues with that knee. So it is not healed and he is not 100% by any stretch of the imagination which shows USC’s hand at QB. They have no one outside of Sanchez to effectively lead this team. If you put in Mustain you might as well suit up his momma and give her a head set and frankly she is a pain in the #### and her son is not the second coming as she and others believe.
For a team that everyone, beside a few that I know, that had USC penciled in for the BCS NC game better begin to rethink their scripts today and frankly apologize to the nation and in particular to USC fans. I will guarantee you every USC fan and player believed the hype that they were destined this year to hoist the crystal football but they forgot about a running little beaver from Houston, Texas that had other ideas.
bayou,
Nice post and I don't feel bad for any of the USC fans but wilson (for some reason I like this dude) and bleed. The arrogance of the fan base is the same with the team. That's what happens to teams who think they just need to show up. When they finaly realize "Hey we need to start really playing" it's usually to damn late. The other team has to much momentum and you are just to damn tired.
Hey, is that the kid from American Idol that ran all over the Trojans? I am beginning to think that OSU might have had a few more rushing yards if Beanie had been available to exploit the middle of that vaunted Trojan D. Awesome game. That is why I love college ball so much.
Now the question, from a Buckeye perspective, is how bad will Penn State run it up next month in Columbus. I know Oregon State had a bad game v. the Nits, but they looked pretty talented to me last night. That is one party I wish I could have made out in Corvallis last night.
The other more general question is how far do they (USC) drop? The Buckeyes dropped from #5 to #13 when they lost to the #1 team. The Trojies just got waxed by an unranked opponent with two losses!!! My guess is, depending on the other action this weekend, to #2 because the media won't have anyone to annoint as a BCS shoe-in now.Just kidding about #2, but it will be interesting to see where they end up. It will also be interesting to see if Mark May relinquishes his lip-lock on the ####-o-Trojan now that they #### the bed again.
Did anybody else see Pete Carroll's after the game comment? The one where he said the Pac-10 is harsh.
Thats almost as priceless as the comment PC made in 2003 when he said that the National Championship was being brought back to da rose bowl with USC vs Michigan.
gambitxxx, I agree I just feel the media talks all this smack and those with limited intelligence fall into the trap. The reality is the Big 10, Big 12, SEC and others need to show up and play. If Georgia beats Bama they have earned the right to be #1.
Pete, I see Penn as very dangerous this year and I hold out hope that my Badgers can pull off some magic and run the table but then again I am not a kool-aid drinker. I do beleive that Penn and Wisconsin will be 1 and 2 in the Big 10, either or. Hopefully that positions one of them to the big show. Would love to see my badgers and LSU in the BCS NC game but I live in a real world.
I would suspect the voters drop USC but they will come up with some excuse for not dropping them as far as they should. then if they win out it will be all the talk how they deserve to win because Oregon State barely hung on to win and USC had to play a tough Pac-10 team in hostile territory. Well aren't all aways games hostile? Don't championship teams find a way to win on the road?
We are here, reading all the classy posts from even classier fans! Thanks for asking!
Why would I hide in a cave? I didnt hide when ted tollner or paul hackett were coaching, why would I now?
lsufan, the REAL you is finally showing! You are no better than ANYONE else,so keep on beating your chest! LMAO!
I knew you were a phoney! Whats the parting gift? Cause, I am not going anywhere! Get used to it!
All I can say is what comes around goes around, and the season is still young! So, be ready.
Wells folks I will be the first to say, and it was blogged, that LSU will lose maybe 3 games this year. I held no idealist belief that LSU would be in the hunt unlike the USC fans that in droves were claiming they were the team to beat.
From the looks of it today I would like to see Penn and OU. Penn could run the table and OU still has Texas and some other really tough games ahead. If they win out they deserve to be in. If Penn wins out they deserve it. If an SEC wins out, which I doubt will happen I still tilt my hat toward Penn.
USC, Georgia, Florida, Badgers are done at this point unless Penn and OU lose one. Then its wide open again.
BD, I think this season will be crazier than last!
Ou looks good, but they always do until the end of the season.
Texas isnt that good as people are making them out to be. Missouri has a hell of a offense, but the defense has holes.
Eh... I still think Ole Miss over UF was a much bigger upset.
I did a breakdown of every team still what I determined was "mathematically" alive for the national title game from the full 119. I came up with 30. 8 in the SEC still have a shot, 9 from the Big XII. Hey when those two hold 12 spots in the top 21...
LSU gets an extra week to prepare for Tebow-verrated. I just made that up, thanks. It's not his fault - get a $*!@*!@*@! running back. I like their defense in that one, and probably vs. Georgia too. Alabama is the dangerous opponent, but I don't think they're swept by those three.
Can't see LSU losing at SCar, vTulane, vTroy, vMiss or @Ark at this point. Gotta be 10-2 so for you to be right they need to lose their bowl. I'm not convinced yet they won't go 12-0. The SEC is completely unsettled other than knowing LSU can beat Auburn, Alabama can beat Georgia and Florida is overrated.
Norcalfella, I agree that Ole Miss over UF is the bigger "upset." I was not surprised by Bama over the Puppy Dogs nor Oregon State over USC. I was surprised USC played as porly as they did. I have heard the excuse that the "star stud LB" was hurt and that was the reason for the loss.
With LSU I can see a loss against Ole Miss this year. I have stated that all year and I would not be stunned in the least. Going to UF and they just losing to Ole Miss does not bode well for LSU. UF has not lost two in a row at home in some time. So I do not see them allowing a loss at home to LSU.
I can see LSU beating Georgia and Bama. LSU has a very solid front four on the D line there biggest issue is their secondary hence not blitzing as much. A good QB sound option team can shred LSU.
In the Big 12 I like OU but can they dance? Have not been able to win a bowl game in some time. I just do not beleive that Mizzou has what it takes yet. I have not seen a Big 12 team beat anybody of substance yet nor consistently. But conference play is underway so it makes it all interesting.
I like Penn but I expect the melt down any second because that is the MO for Penn. I hope they truck along but I remain skeptical. They could win out in the Big 10 though. I have no doubt they beat Ohio State but I am not sure about beating my badgers at "the camp" this year. I view the Badgers as the upset special. Good but not great.
USC made an excuse? Holy ####. That RB looked like he came off the Pop Warner field, I don't care if all their LBs were hurt. These guys were supposed to be better than Cal's guys and Cal bottled up everyone's darling Heisman guy Ringer. They just didn't show in the 1st half - just like Cal@Maryland.
I really like Snead. I'm surprised his numbers suck so much. I guess the only full game I have seen is Wake and I expect by the end of the year he'll be going very well. UF is a myth this season. No RB and apparently teams have figured out to defend Superman. 21-2 might be 21-3 and like you I do play the odds and hear you on the 2 in a row.
LSU over 'Bama would be sweet. Saban can be such a #### at times, so smug. Fantastic coach, but I feel like he should go on a cruise with Belichick where there are nothing but 20 year old women to just cut loose.
OU this season has that left side of the line. Those dudes "Duke" and Loadholt (with names like that...) are deadly. Bowl droughts end.
Penn has always been my adopted team since youth so I wish them well. I agree, imploding is possible.
Already feeling like the BCS is going to be crashed by two non-Big Six teams and it could really wreck the bowl season...
Okay slackers a little about me. Love sports and have my fav teams but simply just enjoy football, basket, and hockey. Really does not matter the team just want to see good games. Played college ball at Wisconsin and hockey for 2 years. Never been married but have three fantastic kids and three great grandkids. Served my country in the intelligence services and now am a business owner just love to give #### to people, liberals and any USC fans just to so I can have fun.
