After some interesting debate and opinions followed my "Top Ten Best NFL Players" post, I decided, what the heck, why not do EXACTLY the same thing, with a different league?
So here it is.....
The Top Ten Best Players in the NHL
10. Antero Nittymaki, goaltender, Philadelphia Flyers
9. Jonathan Cheechoo, forward, San Jose Sharks
8. Jarome Iginla, forward, Calgary Flames
7. Sidney Crosby, forward, Pittsburgh Penguins
6. Vitaly Vishnevski, defenseman, Los Angeles Kings
5. Dion Phaneuf, defenseman, Calgary Flames
4. Jaromir Jagr, forward, New York Rangers
3. Alexander Ovechkin, forward, Washington Capitals
2. Joe Thornton, forward, San Jose Sharks
1. Miikka Kiprusoff, goaltender, Calgary Flames
There you have it.
This session of the Ultimate Canadian Blogging Experience is ending.........now.
I can make an argument for 8.5 out of 10 (Visnovski is a reach but I'll listen to it). Nittimaki? I think Ilya Kovalchuk dominates more as a forward than Nittimaki does as a goaltender. There are better goalies that could have been picked ahead of him anyway. Also, Peter Forsberg when healthy is still a top 5 player in my mind.
I make an argument for any goaltender on a list of best players. Your list holds no credence with me because you not only have TWO goalies on your list, but you have a goalie ranked number ONE???
I've just seen that you are 16 and I now understand why your top 10 list is horrible. Have you heard o####uy named Broduer? How about Miller? Lidstrom? Forsberg?
Seriously guy, if you want to be a broadcaster or sports journalist you need to learn your sports.
T_D, well yeah I suppose I screwed up on Nittymaki. My reasoning was good goaltender on a bad defensive team, but he probably should have been displace by Forsberg, Lidstrom or another player.
FP, perhaps an excellent point, though I tend to think of goaltending as one of the hardest positions in all of sports. As for Lidstrom, an excellent player. I think he's been waning in the last little while, but its difficult to fit every good player into a top ten list (see above about my error on Antero Nittymaki)
LGB, hmmm ouch! Alright I give, Lidstrom and Forsberg should have been on the list! I was viewing their situations, and figured: best players in the league in the best, fading with age. Thanks for stopping by and voicing your opinion though. Try a top ten list sometime, you'll get some reaction.

I think I'll pick apart this list, just for the heck of it. Bored at work.
Anterro Nittymaki. No. Philadelphia will make due with mediocrity in net and win games with a big ugly offensive corps.
Cheechoo. Little to nothing without Joe Thornton, but he's on the list so I'll let that one go.
Iginla is one of two guys who will break the twenty-goal mark on the Flames. Granted, he'll break it big, but that says more about the team than it does about him.
Crosby is a no-brainer. He's led the team on the ice, and off the ice. The goal against the Rangers was spectacular.
Vishnevski is a questionable-at-best pick, particularly with the likes of Neidermayer and Pronger across the street.
Phaneuf should have been in Vishnevski's spot.
Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shannahan need to be listed side-by-side in the same context of Thornton-Cheechoo.
Ovechkin is a no-brainer.
Thornton will be great for years.
Mikka Kiprusoff is a great goaltender, but not worthy of "best player in the league"
You can make an argument for 8 of the guys on that list! And maybe for a ninth if you would have his name right. Arent we talking about Lubomir Visnovsky who plays for the Kings and not Vitali Vishnevski for is with the Thrashers... Even though, how can you rank him ahead of Pronger, Niedermayer and Lidstrom. You sound like these Leafs fans who think Bryan McCabe is in the top 5 defensemen in the league! And im not even talking about Nittymaki! Where are Miller, Brodeur, Luongo, Giguère, Lundqvist, Kolzig, Roloson, Fernandez, Vokoun... and many others if you wanna put Nittymki in there
My name's Jacob Doering. I like sports. I'd like to become a sportswriter or broadcaster one day, but if it doesn't turn out that's ok. My philosophy on life is "I could be dead right now, so I might as well enjoy it." Just in case you wanted to know. I live just outside Woodstock, Ontario. I'm 16.
