"Lions QB Jon Kitna repeated his spring statement of last year and this year that anything less than 10 wins will be a disappointment. "Our expectation is, we will be disappointed if we don't win 10 games because that will mean we are not in the playoffs," Kitna said. "I can't make it any simpler than that. Anybody who says that's not their expectation level is unfortunately not very much of a competitor." -- Detroit News
Ok Lions fans, here we go again.
It's not easy being a Lion's fan but some of us have stuck through thick and thin.
Although, the way this quote is written, I see Kitna's point. I understand we all want to make the play-offs.
However, no matter how he said it we all remember what this phrase cost last year.
I start the season every year with optimism. I have to. They've got some new faces and maybe one or two of them can help improve the team
Perhaps one year (soon?) I'll be on in the front seat when y'all are jumping on the bandwagon.
Yeemum you won't have to worry bout me jumping on that wagon..lol and good luck to your team I remember Barry Sanders I have a great story about barry maybe i'll tell you on the blog that lives good stuff... GO VIKINGS.....
Every year there are one or two big surprise teams in the NFL... Maybe the stars will line up for the Lions this year. Seems their division is ripe for the picking. The Vikes may have a lot to say about that but the Bears are slip slidin' away and the Pack may be back, back in the pack! lol
How cool is this? Yee Mum writing a Football post? Well, i'l tell ya, It's way cool !!!!!
You want your QB to talk with confidence, dont you? I like it, and he does give it everything he's got on the field. He's not the best QB in the league but he's tryin
I have written a few............
I'm not knocking Kitna, and I agree with what he said we want to make the playoffs.
Ah but do you remember what happened LAST year?
I don't know precisely what Jon said then but the media called it a guarentee. And then the #### hit the fan.
He feels as though he has to be that team leader, be the man. Idont remember the exact quote either, but the QB is the guy who has to light the fire, unfortunatly the lions as a whole, were all equiped with extinguishers. I dont beleive his "guarantee" made even the smallest difference. Thet werent a playoff team last year and unless there is some big changes goin on , there not gonna be this year. But this is still way cool!!
Yee Mum...The Lions should make the playoffs. An 8-8 or 9-7 record should win their division. Kitna is the best QB, by far, in that division.
I still don't know wnat the heck happened to them last year. They were 6-2 and then the wheels fell off. Y'all picked up a great RB in the draft. Go Lions.
( my point) "i did get your point" But my point was, games arent won and lost in the media or on the oppositions black board. but the wright leadership at the QB position can make a difference.
and guarantees are a dime a dozen anymore, just look at me and JOKER
B@O im going to keep gaurenteeing A JR. win untill it happens you know how true fans are we are not realistic we are optimistic and when he wins i'll say told you so..lol
YeeMum I start the season with optimism every year but year in & year out them boys just let me down. I have moved out of Detroit down to Jacksonville and everyone down here in Florida keeps on asking me why am I still a die hard lions fan and why dont I convert to a jaguars fan but I just cant do it call me crazy but I will always root for them poor guys. The sun has to shine on a dogs but some day maybe it will shine on them lions.
If they need players for the Lions, there are a few Ex Bengal Players looking for a team since they got out of jail. How ever, Don't know if the Lions management will reserve jail cells for them when they get into trouble.
Yee Mum
I think what Kitna was alluding to is that he expects the team to win 10 games combined over the next two years. God knows this last year was an abomination for the Lions and their fans. But at least they're not in the same position as the Bears. They've still got Grossman on their books.
My next appearance'll be on Sesame Street where I'll be counting up to 10 with Bert and Ernie.
Can any of player on the Lions count up to 10 Bert ?
I didn't think anyone would wish to be identified as a Lions' fan. It is a shame what has happened to one of the premier teams of the league...things should get better though.
Mum - I understand your pain, but at least your team has decent looking uniforms. I'm a Buccaneers fan. Remember their powder orange uniforms? Not only were the buccaneers EVERYBODIES wiping boys, but they had to wear baby colors. Of course right after they changed uniforms they won a title, maybe its time for Detroit to change theirs?
YeeMum I just KNOW the Seahawks are going to play the Lions this season, but they're not on the schedule... It can only mean one thing! Playoffs Baby!!!
Hang in there Mum. Dallas Mavericks were the worst team in ALL of sports over a 20 year period before Cuban bought them.
In 1958, after Bobby Layne had led the Lions to three NFL Championships and provided Detroit nearly a decade of Hall of Fame play, the Lions traded him. Bobby was injured during the last championship season, and the Lions thought he was through and wanted to get what they could for him. According to legend, as he was leaving for Pittsburgh, Bobby said that Detroit "would not win for 50 years." Since this time, the Lions have not won another championship and have only a single playoff game win. Some have attributed the Lions' subsequent 49 years of futility to the "Curse of Bobby Layne."
Look at the bright side - If the Lions "won't win for 50 years"... It's now 50 YEARS! Hope you enjoy a great season!
Mum - Did you know that the last head coach to leave the Lions and be hired somewhere else as head coach was George Gilmore, Bobby Laynes last coach as a Lion?
YeeMum - I have stuck with my 2 teams LA/St Rams and Cleveland Browns till the owner moved them, came back on the wagon when they reformed in Cleveland again. I use to love to watch them when Barry Sanders was running the ball for them. I will be cheering for you, but I already have 2 favorites as it is. lol
Cheerss
