Tomorrow my son graduates from boot camp at Fort Benning GA.

He will then fly to Fort Eustis VA for his AIT. ('copter mech)

He has been asked to go from there to Airborne school

He is 22 years old and he is FINALLY making something of himself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I am proud!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I bet he won't look like that when he gets home.
He had "family day" today and one of his fellows' family took him along for steak and lobster lunch. He called me 4 or 5 times on the cell phone.
. yep I'm smilin'.
re: lesson #1
I am proud of my young man. Now he has money in the bank, and a promising future.
His training will be beneficial if he pursues a military career or not.
BUT THEN THEY ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST, WAY TO GO KARL. STAND UP , HOOK UP, SHUFFLE TO THE DOOR.
We had better wait for the new address, wouldn't want the dancers to snuffercate in the dead letter/waiting to forward office.
That's great to see a young man making good career choices. You should be as proud of him as he is of himself. I wish him continued success in the armed forces.
Way to go kid. The U.S.A. owes you and all other military personnel a debt of gratitude
MrPressbox Who knows where he will decide to go.
Klvalus and you helped! (I told him about the tat and the hair cut but he was busy talking and forgot to ask about it. I’ll send him pix)
jon Thanks
tophatal I thought he was buff when he left (he had been doing Guard weekends for quite a while )
It seems we will both have ‘new looks’ when I get to see him again.
Marty Karl told me that acronym when I asked him how to spell it :)
YeeMum; You may have to change your name to GleeMum. Your beaming out of my monitor, as you should be as a proud parent.
Congrats to you for raising such a fine young man, and congrats to Karl for stepping up to one of lifes most challenging occupations in the military.
*takes off hat*
Question; How difficult is it when your child is posted so far from home? I ask this because my daughter has just enlisted with our services and will no doubt be posted in a different Province or Country and I have to admit I'll miss her like nothing before, but in the same breath, I have to give her credit, it's something she has allways wanted to do. Am I being selfish?
Oh does it show?
The hardest part was boot camp (happy that's over) we could only communicate via mail and delivery was not consistant. finding out he munkled his ankle a week after is was healed, that sort of thing.
I wanted to be able to be more supportive, but by the time I found out what was bothering him it was all over with. Not being able to be there for his grad still tears me up a bit.
Now he can call atleast every weekend, so I look forward to communicating in 'real time'.
I miss my boy and we do have the additional stress of his step da being incurably ill. Karl couldn't get here in time if things go bad.(we knew that when he signed up)
If you're being selfish so am I , but the sacrifices we make are fewer than the ones they are potentially signing up for. Besides, it's better than having a 20-something (or older) living on your sofa! :)
As a plus you get days when you can beam & brag!
Al my best to your daughter!
Thanks fuzz
Looks live he has a grad-mate that travelled there with him, so he will have a partner in 'crime' on the weekends too.
I understand (thanks chux) there is a local short track nearby , so Karl will be in his element on the weekends.
Hearts will be broken!
