I have observed that many commentors on these pages like to bash some of the drivers, crew members, announcers, reporters, and yes, even bloggers that take the time to share their thoughts here on FOXSports.(and elsewhere for that matter)Can we try to remember they are PEOPLE damn it?
gratuitus bling
Everybody has a driver (or three) they cheer for, a favourite track (or four), a respected announcer (maybe)
However,
almost without fail every race fan has a driver / track / common-tater / NASCAR rule that they Loathe.
I am conducting a little experiment.
I would ask everyone to nominate one driver / track / common-tater / NASCAR rule that they want eliminated from NASCAR.
For the purpose of my experiment please keep the nominees to Cup racing only.
yeemum hows it going little lady and my driver Jaun paplo-track Watkins Glenn--comentator---DW----rule----- teams should be able to chose whatever tire they want
YeeMum - thanks for the blog and the application of civility in a pretty emotional sport & rabid fans (of which i am one).
Driver - none - every one of these folks is what creates the controversies/discussions/passion we all feel.
Track - Watkins Glen - impossible to watch on tv - bring back rockingham.
Commentator - none - hey, they're just trying to make a living too. (Daugherty).
Rule: No modifications - Tweak Away Boys!
Driver - Ken Schrader - Dude, you're 53 years old. You haven't had a top-5 finish in this century. Go truck racing or something.
Track - I like all of the tracks, so I wouldn't opt to get rid of one completely, However, if Pocono suddenly only had one race that would be OK with me.
Commentator - Already happened with Erik Kuselias - my GOD he sucked - being replaced by Nicole Manske on NASCAR Now.
Rule - Considering 90% of my own blog is ####ing about NASCAR, you would think I would have an easier time with this, but I think most all of NASCAR's rules (the top-35, the Lucky Dog, etc.) are OK in theory and just need tweaking. Oh - I know - the worst rule in NASCAR is the fact that the field is frozen under yellow even if you lose your position, like when Jeff Gordon blew his engine at Fontana BEFORE the checkered, but he was allowed to maintain third-place despite losing his place in line.
Driver- I have a hard time eliminating anyone, as they are all there on some kind of merit or other.
To be sporty about it though, I'd say bye-bye Mikey Waltrip.
Track- Either one of the road coarses.
eeny meeny miney moe.... Sonoma
Commentater- Hands down...Brad Dougherty
He just grates me.
Nascar rule- Get rid of the single file re-starts with less than ten to go.
Double wide lead lap cars. That should make for exciting finishes.
the lucky dog has got to go, let them race back to the flag, screw safety! i want to see who will slow up and who wont and for whom just like it was before
Driver - Carl Edwards. A bully in buffed-up sheeps clothing.
Track - Daytona. Not the history of Daytona, but the giant stadium/restrictor platium/superbankium precedent it set, forming the highly restricted format of what used to be great racing - and now is the most contrived form of racing in existence.
Commentator - Darrel Waltrip; used to enjoy him, has become a cliche.
NASCAR rule - without a doubt, the Top-35 rule. Is there ANYTHING more anti-good-ol'-boy - or just anti-racing in general - than this abomination? Despite the NASCAR apologists among you's economic take on this rule, the uber-business-oriented (or uber-ignorant) perspective that is required to view this rule as "good" lies at the heart of what is wrong with the still-wildly popular NASCAR formula.

DRIVER: Juan Pablo Montoya - If we have to watch less competitive open wheel drivers compete at the next level, at least give me eye candy like Danica Patrick.
TALKING HEAD: I'm OK with 'em all.
TRACK: Bristol - Was exciting before the banks. Bumping, fighting traffic and swaping paint at Bristol in the old days was the birth of some of NASCAR's best rivalries. Too slow and methodically boring now (compared to the bigger tracks).
RULE: Restrictor plate - Safety has it's place, but providing a level playing field to the less than competitive teams just sucks. Leave "making nice" to the politically correct mamby pambies.
I avoid a handfull of NASCAR bloggers.
After being told I was stupid for having my opinion, I wrote off some of these 'friends' as too self-important to believe every polite opinion matters.
Let me say AMEN ! YeeMum for I have lower to those steps before. I think I know were you are going with this, but here are mine.
track, Cala- auto club speedway or what ever the name it is this week.
driver, this is hard, cause I don't mind or should say no one gets on my nerves, so .. The one who used too was Jeff Gordon, I think he has change alot in the last 2 years for the good. ok sorry..Jeremy Mayfield
announcer - Susie Kolber cause she is full time, also Brent Mustburger of they bring him back.
WELL SINCE RUSTY WALLACE IS GONE, I AM PRETTY HAPPY WITH THE COMMENT - TATERS, THE TRACK THAT NEEDS TO GO WATKINS GLENN, AND THE DRIVER THAT NEEDS TO HIT THE BRICKS IS FRANCHITTI, OR HOW EVER YOU SPEll IT.
ISN'T IT AMAZING HE CAN MAKE A RACE AND IT'S THE PIT CREW'S FAULT,
YOU SHOULD HAVE SO INCLUDED AN OWNER THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE GONE, I SO WISH CHIPPY WOULD GO AWAY. AS FOR THE RULE I HAVE 2, BONUS POINTS FOR ANYTHING YOU DID EXCEPT WIN THE RACE AND PAST CHAMPIONSHIP PROVISIONALS, WHO GIVES A #### ABOUT WHAT YOU DID LAST YEAR OR 10 YEARS AGO.
YeeMum, great post. A lot of my fellow bloggers have stole my thunder. Good thinking on their parts.
I have one: eliminate the caution for debris on the track!!! Back in the day, when there was debris on the track, there were NO cautions thrown out. If someone ran over a piece of metal on the track, too bad. Sucked for them. When this rule is eliminated, then we can have a caution-free race like Talladega in April of 2001. (I'm STILL amazed that there were NO cautions at 'Dega, seven years after that race!!)
Track: Watkins Glen...zzzz. If they make Cali a restrictor race, I might re-consider taking them off the list.
Announcer: ummm...I don't think I'm allowed to rip a FOX employee...I'll be YeeMum on that one.
Driver: David Reutimann (spelling?)...he just doesn't strike me as very competitive, although I seem to remember him having some pole positions...he's just soooo boring.
He's like lettuce in a sandwich...not a lot of purpose other than a filler, doesn't offer any flavor, and if you left it out, the sandwich would still be good.
Tracks: ALL but a couple of the 1.5 mile tracks. Add a couple of road courses (Virginia International Raceway and Road Atlanta) and put one of them in the Chase.
Driver: Ken Schrader. I like him, but he's no longer competitive. He's no Harry Gant, who won four consecutive races towards the end of his career at age 51. FIFTY-ONE!! Gant was STILL competitive for a couple of years after that! (He was a FREAK of nature!)
track-i gotta say anything with a restrictor plate required.
tater- chris meyers. talk about dumbing it down for the audience.
driver.aj almindinger, obviously just not getting the hang of the big heavy cars
rule- the lucky dog makes me sick every time there is a caution.
and jjd dont hate on only jg with that rule(can you tell i 'm touchy about it) greg biffle won a race on that last year, (i believe it was kansas) your right though, it so needs to be fixed.
Kyle Busch, hate the mouth
Any road course, give me another short track
Don't have a problem with the announcers
And please let slshusker play, he entertains the he77 out of me.
Good post YeeMum. Although I dont really hate any drivers, commentators, tracks or rules....there are some that I dislike more than others. Here are my picks:
Driver - Bill Elliott (please retire!!!!)
Commentator: Glad the Susie Kolber is gone, so I'll go with Brad Dougherty. He's my least favorite one.
Track: I dont hate any of them, but would like to see one of the Fontana CA races dropped and Darlington get the Labor Day race back.
Rule: Freeze field with the caution flag. Liked it better when they raced back to the caution.
Ahh. YeeMim has great topics #### always.
Driver..Kyle Petty..For the way he talks about leaving the family buisness. Thanks to "Petty" The victory junction camp is what it is. He needs to step from the car and help dad run the team.
Track...Cali, The racing might get better. But the 2 races there are not earned. Track 2 TexaZzz. Again 2 races not earned yet.
Commentator..I would say Crusty Wallace, But they got rid of him.lol..
Rule..With the safer car. They need to lose the Luckydog and race back to the green. Rember the Gentalmans agreement. The leader backed off and close cars passed the leader.
I avoid a handfull of NASCAR bloggers.
After being told I was stupid for having my opinion, I wrote off some of these 'friends' as too self-important to believe every polite opinion matters.
If you are going to throw "a handful (sic) of NASCAR bloggers" under the bus, I can't let that go because I know you are including me in that group, which is fine even though I'm pretty sure he only ever commented on that one post on my blog, but just for the record - being incorrect about FACTS is NOT the same as "having an opinion."
THIS thread of comments is FULL of opinions by a LOT of the regular NASCAR bloggers and others, and in typical fashion, not one person has been told their opinion is "stupid". Except for one guy I can recall, I have yet to find any of the NASCAR crew here anything but pleasant, and I find the implication that there is a group of us that think we are smarter than others to be ridiculous.
And please let slshusker play, he entertains the he77 out of me.
fuzz! heck you can get an ejumacation just reading these comments.
I have to add, JJD can come across as 'grumpy' (heck he's bitten my nose a time or two)but once you get used to his 'voice' It's just the way he types. he's really sticky about facts
slshusker rocks! He is the funniest guy in this blogosphere and tells it like it is. He is one of my top 5 faves for sure. Especially as a human being.
JayJay Dean, I was kind enough not to name you, then you went and opened your mouth, which is full of venom, as usual. Your opinions are 'facts' and opinions of others are stupid. Now I understand.
This goes back to me stating that "NASCAR is treating new drivers better than the old, much like cell phone companies treat new subscribers." You called me and my comments stupid, while beating your chest and making a shout out to another blogger, saying my comments were the most ignorant of the day.
Are you feeling guilt, or just playing the superior card again.
I won't be on your blog, since you're clearly better than every one else. Your comments state that. Your "(sic)" shows your superior personality.
Sorry about that, YeeMum.

I remember what that post was about, and I remember writing that, and if you still think you were right you are still wrong. Anyone who wants to can read the thread and comments (except ones that 'husker deleted when he took his ball and ran home) here: http://community.foxsports.com/blog s/JayJayDean/2008/01/12/Preferentia l_treatment_and_the_top35_rule
For the record, I never referred to you or your comments using the words "stupid" OR "ignorant" - you can go back and read that for yourself. Your comment here seemed to call out a group of us - "handfull" was the term, right? - and there IS a perception that there IS kind of a clique of NASCAR bloggers where others aren't welcome. That's what inspired my comment - not something like "feeling guilt, or just playing the superior card". Good grief.
And if you were just baiting ME, well, I took the bait. Good for you. Sorry, YeeMum. (Though I wouldn't say I'm "grumpy" generally - more like "not touchy-feely". :) )

JJ, then why did you respond to my comments above. I didn't name you in any way.
I removed my comments from your blog because you only wanted to 'dis' me more. You're still doing it, so toss off. You didn't burn a bridge with me, a fellow blogger, you dropped napalm on it.
Good bye and the end.
I have to say, I have NEVER seen anyone take a comment about a comment in a blog so personally before. I am astounded at how differently you see your side of this from how I see mine.
Avid NASCAR fan. .I am generally quite friendly, and I don't bite (much).
- I like comments, I bet you do too. So I will comment.
I am not here for a pat on the head, however, I would like a wee bit of a comment if you happen to read anything I write.
