I have a reliable source (he was at the race ) who told me that they announced at the track Sunday that LVMS will have a second race.
He claims it is this year but the schedule has not changed.
Was anyone else there and did they hear this announcement? (according to my source the crowd went wild!)
Could it have been an announcement about next year?
Fines- I have updated my Here's your FINEs (from Daytona) blog to reflect the appeals as they come in. ~Plenty of new stuff there~
Edwards updated .
"The No. 99 car driven by Carl Edwards was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-2.1J (any device or duct work that permits air to pass from one area of the interior of the car to another, or to the outside of the car, will not be permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, the inside of the car to the trunk area, or the floors, firewalls, crush panels and wheel wells passing air into or out of the car) of the 2008 NASCAR rulebook. The violations were found during post-race inspection at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 2.
As a result, Edwards and car owner Jack Roush have been penalized 100 championship driver and 100 championship owner points, respectively. In the event the 99 team qualifies for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the team will not receive the 10 bonus points for the UAW-Dodge 400 victory used for determining the Chase seeding order. Crew chief Bob Osborne has been fined $100,000, suspended from the next six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, suspended from NASCAR until April 30 and placed on probation until Dec. 31."
Robby Gordon's appeal is supposed to be today as well- updates will be made as I (or you) find them.
Gordon Gets 100 Points Back
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A NASCAR appeals committee has amended the penalty levied against Robby Gordon, returning the 100 points the driver was docked for an infraction found in Daytona.
The reversal Wednesday saves Gordon's season by moving him back up to 21st in the standings. The original penalty, combined with a crash in Sunday's race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, had dropped Gordon to 37th in the standings.
The National Stock Car Racing Commission also lifted crew chief Frank Kerr's six-week suspension, but raised his monetary fine from $100,000 to $150,000.
As has been stated elsewhere- NASCAR seems to be dragging their feet on the fine issues.
Jayski.com is probably the best place to get the scoop. He compiles all the rumours, documented or spoken. It would be hard to believe that it would be this year though.
I believe you. Just figured if something was announced at the track, he would have had sources. All he has is a reference to last summer that said NASCAR is looking at a 2nd date for Vegas and one for Kentucky without mentioning what track site would lose out. I am very curious about this one...
I know Bruton Smith is doing everything he can to get a second date. I just hope they get it from another cookie track. Not a real nascar track.. Vegas with out the yellows would have been boring..Take one from cali..Just my opinion.
Yee- I heard a rumor from one of the crew in the garages that they would be going to Vegas 2x next year (this was last year of course)...but they didnt expand on it. I think your onto something!!
Kirsten~ My "source" is one of my delivery drivers and I have chatted with him every Tuesday for years. He knows how I feel about NASCAR so I feel he would have taken care to get things right before telling me.
(still we'll just have to keep our noses on this)
Call SpeedBeagle!!!!!!!!!!!
moseby & pop~ I really can't pick a track I would take a race away from- If I HAD to it would be one with 2 dates, but you'd really have to justify that if you were giving it to a track that already had one.
(can you follow that?)
ETA
LOL it seems I scooped FOX. Their front page article is dated @ 30 minutes after my update here.
I guess I was poised for results.
I find that funny
Yee, I told Forensic 2 that I had heard at least 5 crew chiefs say what a safety violation it was to have that oil reserve cover off. Also, Carl Edwards said "...a screw backed out..." It has four that hold it down. I think, in this case, he got what he deserved. Great reporting by you. Thanks, vol
If they add a second race, maybe they could take Cali out of Labor Day...its triple digit temps in Sept are killer. Edwards loses 100/10? Thats rough..I am sure Shrub is crying about it. :)
volfan~ It's a violation even if it is loose.
If you read my updates on the "Here's you FINEs" blog you will see that in atleast one case, NASCAR did determine that the bolt/screw was threaded.
However, With the cover OFF it is not just a case of ONE bolt/screw 'backing out'.
I was just in pounce mode waiting for it come out! :)
Robbie Gordon has been giving back his 100 points and his crew chief is no longer suspended. But NASCAR did up his monetary fine from $100,000 to $150,000.

YeeMum - The most likely scenario is to move the NHIS/Louden Chase race to Vegas. I believe that is the main (if not sole) reason Bruton bought the track.
PS - Nascar has a proposal from Atlanta & Cali to swap the fall races: Atlanta gets Labor Day and Cali gets an October chase race. Nascar has not yet commented on it.
I think they did the right thing with Robby's penalties. Now Dodge needs to step up and pay the fine for his team.
It takes too long to learn the truth about NASCAR events and tracks.
Texas Motor Speedway owner, Burton Smith, had to say he was suing the France family over a 2nd race before he got the 2nd race.
Hey, doesn't Smith's company own the Vegas track, too.
We have enough tracks, but not enough weeks and events to use them all efficiently.
What we need is the boaring tracks to bank the heck out of the turns. Pocono would be a great one. NHIS now has a second grove but still needs more banking. Just a thougth. lol
Iowa~yep
NASCAR should look at that proposal, it makes sense in a lot of ways.I think Robby's penalties make more sense than they did to begin with- for certain- and Dodge should pony up.
slshusker~Almost Always get the skinny on the fines by Tuesday.
I think some went to appeal before they were even brought to us this time.
Not quite enough tracks...........The Pacific Northwest needs one too!
Is there really an apparent prejudice against Ford in NASCAR? I've read a couple of comments on the NASCAR blogs that point that way...
The Edwards car loses a part and is fined to this extent? I've heard an argument that it could have simply vibrated off... I guess we'll see about the appeal. Is there a good reason people seem to gravitate away from Edwards?
They are still testing their theories, but the removal of the lid/cover (I have seen both terms used) can assist the car with an increase in downforce. Not sure how much, but I suppose they are testing that too.
Not to mention (I think someone already did) the safety factor if the car flips/catches on fire/etc.
might I add- You are doing remarkably well with the not YELLING all the time. LOL (It never bothered ME anyway)
YeeMum- I think you were someone on that pointed out that Robby’s infraction happened on opening day inspection, which is what I heard. I don’t think he ever went on track with that nose too, so the return of his points was more than justified and I am glad to see that it happened. I am disappointed that the fine remained though. I would think that the opening day inspection would be the time to catch the problems and fix them before anything started. Those that race at local tracks usually get inspected early in the season and those with things that are not approved are usually told to fix it or not come back.
As for Carl, I wish I knew where the lid was located. If it was between the engine compartment and the cockpit, it was dangerous to have it off, but it could have allowed air from under the car to move into the car and have the air sucked out the windows, allowing the car to stick to the track better in the turns. It could also allow the grill to have more tape on it because the oil would be cooled as the air goes around that box. If the lid is elsewhere, I have no idea what it could help other than increasing airflow allowing more cooling and again allowing the front end to have more tape…etc…
I like Carl too. He seems like a great guy and he even has signed up for the nascar sim racing league I am in because he met some of the guys in our league after a Busch race. His team does deserve a penalty though if this truly did lead to an advantage.
I thought the 'opening day' inspections were just that (same as our local track). That is part of the reason I kept watching the story.
There are photos out there that show the cover.
It sits behind the drivers seat inside.
Quoted from Hanahan "I just saw the oil tank cover on espn2's NASCAR Now. It is a large metal cover mounted almost directly behind the driver's headrest. It's close in size to a 5 gallon bucket laying on it's side. The way it is up in air, it looks like it could restrict airflow going through the window and then through the car. "
Class act- I rec'd this e-mail from Jim Beam today.
( I signed the petition for Robby Gordon)
Thank you for your support!
I just wanted to take a minute to personally thank you for your support of me and my race team. We felt that an honest mistake did not deserve such a harsh penalty. We are grateful that the commissioners rescinded the points penalty and suspension. Knowing that you, along with 13,000 others, took the time to answer the call from Jim Beam to sign the petition, really encouraged us to stay true to character and fight the good fight.
We hope you’ll continue to support us as we continue show our ‘stuff inside’ on the racetrack and off. Be sure to check out JimBeam.com/racing to keep up with this year’s excitement. Believe me, we’re just getting warmed up, so you’ll want to stay on top of the action!
Thanks again for your support and for sharing the spirit of what it means to have the 'stuff inside.'
- Robby Gordon

Moon Dog has made me aware that you've got a son going through Boot Camp and that a birthday is in the offing ? Here's my shout out to him. And may he do you and your immediate family proud in the service of his country. My own younger brother is now serving with the British military in Iraq in the southern part of the country. We keep in touch regularly and he tells me that it's now become a desolate place in many ways. But he's glad to be there doing what he's doing.
Avid NASCAR fan. .I am generally quite friendly, and I don't bite (much).
- I like comments, I bet you do too. So I will comment.
I am not here for a pat on the head, however, I would like a wee bit of a comment if you happen to read anything I write.
According to my sources I am the first person to get 2 Game Balls in the same week. Check out "Hatchetman's parade of sports" ..March 2008 accused of being Best "most congenial" blogger: by LisaH
