I know exactly what you mean by desert I used to live in the Yakima Valley and then on up in the Okanogan Valley... Pretty dry in both those areas too!
YeeMum, we here in Central California are going to get SLAMMED with very heavy rain and HIGH winds (60 to 70 MPH gusts at times) Saturday night and into Sunday. The rain is going to come in sideways. We haven't had a storm this huge in the last 30 years. Doesn't look like there's going to be a race on Sunday. But it should be clear throughout California on Monday.
YeeMum I didn't know you are from melon country. Nice area, I'm from Damascas, Clackamas co. between Port. and Sandy. You must have been excited when they were talking track at Boardman.
Yee...As you know, Southern Cali can be 80 degrees one day, and the next day, 50 degrees, in Winter. We are total weather whimps. It drizzles here and it's StormWatch 2008.
In any case, it's 9:30 pm PST, and it's not raining....that's the good news.
(Here is the current forecast....have a drink before you read it.)
The bad news is that the dark clouds are off the coast and they look like they are ready to kick some tush.
Verdict: Severe weather starting Saturday night and into Sunday. Kiss Fontana goodbye for the weekend...it's not happening. Miracles do happen, but so far, it ain't happening. No way. It's grim and dark and ugly here. It will be postponed to maybe Tuesday. It ####.

YeeMum, while the rain will be heavy throughout California, Central California will get the brunt of the rain. I wouldn't be surprised if we get at least 3-4 inches of rain. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if we get a half inch.
Looks like they are going to attempt to run the trucks and the "Nationwide" series tomorrow.
with the high winds I wonder if that will even see daylight?
We wait.
Do they "camp" at Fontana like I've seen at 'dega?
Lord love a duck (as grams used to say)
I hope they have their tent pegs firmly planted.

Yee...do they camp like they do in Dega? Nobody camps like they do in Dega! To be honest, I don't know...but Im going to make an educated guess and say no.
A 2-4 hour drive for us is no big deal, and NASCAR DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME DRAW in the state like other Southern states, so the need for RVs isn't as strong. Gas is over 3.35 a gallon right now...couple that in, and you have a strong reason not to camp. Hence, not a lot of people from the Bay area or areas far away will drive down to the Inland Empire to see the race.
Fontana isn't exactly a tourist mecca...it's desert, very industrial, and somewhat out in the middle of nowhere, although the Inland Empire itself has some very nice areas. I'm an hour west from there, and still debated on whether or not to go...that should give you an idea of the draw.
It's blue skies with some clouds right now.....tonite its supposed to start up again.

yea this definatly sucks for Carpentier.... he really does look like a good driver but he just has no luck... last week he got wrecked, this week the freak rain in California!!
Watermelons from the Pacific NW? Learn something new everyday. I'll have to take your word on how good they are. I will put the #### from W. Palm Beach, FL, or the ones from central GA up against those west coasters any time.
These southern watermelons are so sweet, you have to sprinkle them with salt for optimum taste.
YeeMum- NASCAR Needs to do something about the races and rain. Several last season were ran on Tuesday or Wednesday after the postponement due to rain on Sunday. I know they can't control the weather, but the fans, at least the ones who can't get to the tracks in person and have to work during the week and can't afford Tivo or digital satellite, like me. Sorry this seems to have turned into a rant. Nice post, as is your usual.
Avid NASCAR fan. .I am generally quite friendly, and I don't bite (much).
- I like comments, I bet you do too. So I will comment.
I am not here for a pat on the head, however, I would like a wee bit of a comment if you happen to read anything I write.
According to my sources I am the first person to get 2 Game Balls in the same week. Check out "Hatchetman's parade of sports" ..March 2008 accused of being Best "most congenial" blogger: by LisaH
