Racism, bigotry, singlemindedness, “NoMatta Whatcha Callit” it doesn’t belong here.
Quite a few bits have been written about the ‘invasion’ of the open-wheelers.
Jbroomy, Dave_in_Indy ,IowaGirl , to name a few have given me a bit of an education about F1. They are talented drivers.. Maybe in a different way than ‘we ‘ are accustomed, but talented none the less. It’s not like they just walked in and got handed a ride.
Most recently, dsd0174 has a good perspective on the inclusion of all drivers.(As do many here)
And yet there are too many comment s that slander.(I won’t link to their blogs)
“They talk funny “ “They can’t speak the language”
“They race funny looking cars” “They aren’t even real race cars”
“They don’t belong here” “Ship them back to where ever they came from”
“They ain’t from around here.” “We don’t want our guys to play with them”
“He/She is a [insert slanderous ethnic babble here]”
I noted the trend when it began on the ‘main page’ articles.
Comments about Juan Pablo Montoya and his ethnicity. (Which most get wrong)
Who cares, kids? If the drivers can drive, they will prove themselves. If they can’t they won’t last long.
And yet, look what happens when someone from ‘another’ sport pops off with “####”,”barefoot” “trailer trash”, “expletive your [insert family member here]” slurs.
(see what I mean?)
The ‘sport’ was begun by some not so savory characters.
Many of today’s fans would NEVER have wanted to be associated with the likes of them.
How many of these [think o####ood word] would have been comfortable sitting next to some of the pioneers (especially at the party after the race). They sure weren’t clean cut pre-packages stars.
NASCAR fans have come along way,a majority of the outsiders associated us with the stereotype we now only see occassionally.
And the TOYOTA issue. Jeez with the C.o.T. they all look alike anyway. “We want it like the good old days”
Don’t get me wrong I was a huge fan of “Race on Sunday, sell on Monday”
If the Nationwide Series takes the rumoured turns, maybe we will have a bit of that back?
Did you know NASCAR’s early history included several foreign manufacturers, such as Aston Martin, Austin-Healey, Citroën, Jaguar, MG, Morgan, Porsche, Renault, and Volkswagen?
From the 1960s until 2004 entry was restricted to American manufacturers. The restriction was relaxed in recognition of the fact that the Tundra, is built in America.
You may also note that the "American" cars are often built or assembled in Canada and Mexico.
I also note that these are some of the typers that claim they are leaving their “favourite” driver, because of a manufacturer/sponsor/team change. Boy you really are a die-hard fan for YOUR driver, aren’t you.
Many different backgrounds, cultures, upbringings, countries and points of view exist in this little on-line community. Why single out someone you don’t even know for what you think he/she is or isn’t?
A NotInMyBackYard-Is one creature we don’t need here.
“The only thing that Yunick did better than bend the rules was use cuss words” (more to come on this guy)
Like I said “Get YOUR RACE-ism OUT of MY RACE-ing”
They are all very talented drivers, and the best in the world. Even teenage kids "Drifting" in mom's Honda are better race drivers than most of those bloggers that throw around insults to hide their lack of character.
Considering all our ancestors are from other parts of the world, We don't have a leg to stand on now do we?
I can imagine what the native Americans are thinking now about selling that small parcel in the North East a few centuries ago. " Well there goes the tribes of our nation.."
Yee- good post on important subject...we can all chose to act in a way to make nascar one big HAPPY family, including respecting the drivers, the sport and ourselves.
I for one WELCOME the open wheelers into NASCAR. It makes for better competition in NASCAR. Give the open wheelers a couple of years to get adjusted to the intricacies of NASCAR and we'll really see spirited competition.
Natioal assotiation stock car racing. Nothing is said you have to be american. Nothing says the car has to be american made. And in the past other makes have made it. I am glad for anyone to try. I dont like though making a first race at Dega. JPM did arca Busch before coming in. Look at Sam Hornish. He has not made a race yet. He has good cars. You need to wet your feet in the trucks or Busch. Maybe Arca. I dont care who and where your from. Male or Female. If you can drive come and drive. I love this sport cause it doesnt matter your age, Race, Sex, or anything else. Come and play its an awsome sport, and I wouldnt change anything about the people in it.
noahspop~ Although I agee a track like 'Dega Is NOT the place to get your feet wet in any vehicle, the last 'scare' turned out quite well.
I have 'tempered' my prior attitude about the subject (somewhat)
YeeMum, I absolutely love your sense of humor and the ability you have to get your point across in your blogs. I certainly agree with you here. As always, a great and easy read. Thanks
Avid NASCAR fan. .I am generally quite friendly, and I don't bite (much).
- I like comments, I bet you do too. So I will comment.
I am not here for a pat on the head, however, I would like a wee bit of a comment if you happen to read anything I write.
