The balance of European power is swaying in a sea of change. The lucky Turks and the awakening of the Russian bear loom upon the traditional European powerhouses. However, the Germans are still alive after beating the crafty Portuguese with sublime play, planning and movement almost reminiscent of the von Schliefen Plan. Tomorrow’s match of Spain’s Armada of individual talent and Italy’s aging gladiators will decide which new upstart the winner will face.
The Turks have certainly used all nine lives and are looking to eclipse their own excellent display since the 2002 world cup showing. How can anyone wager against a team that has come from behind in such dramatic fashion in so many successive games? Turkish keeper Rustu went from zero to hero in just minutes. On Wednesday the Turks will relish their chances of being outplayed for 90 minutes but yet finding some fascinating way to pull off the unpredictable. The Russian’s on the other hand will not rely on their nations best weapon against aggressive opposition, the long cold winter. Their number 10 will melt away the cold with blazing runs and hardened determination.
The Turks and Russians are leaving off wear the Greeks and the Danes of ’92 left off. This is the best new wave, since the 80’s, when New Wave actually, well, sucked. But anyway, a Turkey-Russia final would be nice future encouragement for small footballing countries such San Marino, Luxemburg and England to have hope.
Here are a few of the transfers that have recently occured. I have developed a software program based on past statistics, regression, advanced calculus and string theory that can predict how these mega transfers will do. Will they be a success or will they flop?
Luca Toni- 10 goals. Helps Bayern win Uefa cup
Henry- 8 goals. Injured again. doesn't fit in well with new team mates. huge goal slumps. (Henry cant score on the French national team, nor could he with Monaco or Juventus)
Nani- 5 goals. Finally Ronaldo has someone to talk to. Accidently lands 3 rows into the Kop after doing his pattented back flips celebration after scoring a goal against liverpool.
Gekas-17 goals. No flop here. Becomes the best player in the bayer Leverkusen system since Berbatov and Ballack.
Owen Hargreaves- 1 goal. Becomes the most popular "Owen" in England. Michael Carrick packs bags moves to Crystal Palace.
Klose- 9 goals- Splits too much time between Toni and Podolski. should have went abroad. Spain or England.
Basturk- 5 goals- strengthens the Stuttgart midfield. great transfer.
Lincoln- 9 goals- Curves his discipline in Turkey now that he is not in the same league as Bernd Schneider. Writes gettysburg address.
Scott Parker-2 goals. Proves Usefull during the end of the year relegation battle for West Ham.
Viduka- 15 goals. excels in Big Sams system. becomes a fan favorite.
got to go. just got off the phone with Arsne Wegner. He wants to use my software. I'd say Tevez for 10 goals. Viera would help too.
Bayern Munich look set to retake the Bundesliga this year and possibly field the most dangerous Uefa cup squad of all time. With the recent aquisition of Miroslav Klose, Luca Toni and Franck Ribery, FC Hollywood have aquired more talent than any team in europe thus far in the transfer market.
The Bayern attack will be impressive with Toni and Klose as first choice strike pair, leaves Podolski on the bench for late substitutions and a solid replacement if Toni or Klose find any midseason slumps. This leaves the beak nosed Dutch striker Makaay as foder. I see him going to a mid table English club or back to his native Holland.
In the midfield Bayern have many new options, Ze Roberto, Sosa, Ribery and Altintop from Schalke, bringing different talents which they did not have last year.
In Defense they arguably have the best back line in Europe. Lucio and Vanbuyten have the size to fill the midle and play a physical game. Phillip Lahm is one of the best right/left backs in the world. Marcell Jansen is poised to get first team action and will be a pleasant suprise. Bayern also have Sagnol to throw in for different options.
My Blog is open to all sports but is mainly focused on European Soccer headlines. I'll cover topics of foreigners buying EPL teams, high priced transfers, what David Beckham did last tuesday, national teams and so on. I respect all comments and opinions about any league, team or player. However, I dont except opinions from Dortmund Fans. (Might tell you what club I favor) Be to thyself true, and write away. By the way, I also follow Hockey. Minnesota Golden Gophers, and Minnesota Wild. Hockey posts and comments are cool.
