Other Choices for the Lakers
Jul 16, 2008 | 10:22PM | report this

The Lakers are rumored to be in talks with the Kings about a Lamar Odom- Ron Artest trade, but there are plenty of other people the Lakers could go after if they don't want to do that trade.

LAKERS TRADE:

Lamar Odom

BOBCATS TRADE:

Jason Richardson

This trade would give the Lakers another scorer to go along with Kobe.  J-Rich can play SF and SG so the Lakers could choose whether they want Kobe or Richardson to play SF.  The Bobcats would a good big man who can pass.  They have a lot of scorers on the team, but not a lot of rebounders and passers so Lamar would help them alot.

LAKERS TRADE:

Lamar Odom, Vladimir Radmanovic, Sun Yue (unsigned draft pick)

MAVERICKS TRADE:

Josh Howard, Jason Terry

This may not be a very good trade for the Mavs, but if they want to get a big expiring contract then this would be a decent trade for them.  The Lakers get a good small forward and a clutch shooter off the bench.

LAKERS TRADE:

Lamar Odom, Luke Walton, Vladimir Radmanovic, Sun Yue (unsigned draft pick)

HEAT TRADE:

Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem

It gets rid of the Heat logjam at the forward positions because Lamar and Beasley would start.  The Lakers get a very good defender and someone who has championship experience.  The Heat also get a good shooter and a good passer.

LAKERS TRADE:

Luke Walton, Vladimir Radmanovic, Sun Yue (unsigned draft pick), Coby Karl, cash, 2nd round draft pick

ROCKETS TRADE:

Shane Battier, Steve Francis

The Lakers get one of the best defenders in the league and a veteran point guard.  The Rockets get a good shooter, a good passer, and a 6-9 point guard who has really good passing skills and can score the ball.

Those are all of the trades that I can think of right now.

But there is also some signings the Lakers could try and do.

They could try and sign Maurice Evans, Alonzo Mourning, Theo Ratliff, or Jamaal Magloire.

They could also re-sign DJ Mbenga if they can't sign any of those other people, because they need a a big man to back up Bynum just in case Mihm is injured or not playing well because he is recovering from an injury.

You have one trade there that makes any sense at all and that is for Marion and Haslem. The others are a waste of time sir. Steve Francis? Over my dead body. Richardson? Over my dead body.

What do we want Josh Howard and Jason Terry for? We got gunners. We need bulk inside that can play defense. This is a horrible idea.

I agree with ND here :) we like the idea of Shawn Marion and Udonis Haslem but the rest no way.

None of them plays with the money they're getting paid for...LOL

PS
Put aside his personal life, Artest plays good defense and can shoot the ball too.

Marion and Haslem is an interesting scenario.

Does Riley want to help his former team much in the same way McHale helped his?

I'd take this trade over the Artest deal in a heartbeat.

As far as Josh Howard is concerned... no freakin' way the Lakers are going to go after another pothead. We already see the lasting results that herbal medicine has done to Laidback Lamar Odom's aggressiveness, or lack thereof, so there's no way the Lakers are going to take a chance on Howard.

I think the Heat-Lakers trade would be a really good trade for both teams.

ABOUT ME

I like the Lakers and I hate the Celtics. I have been a Lakers fan since the 2007 playoffs. I am not a bandwagoner though, because I stayed a fan through Kobe's trade demands and watched every game this season even though people thought they were going to be bad. I hate the Celitcs because of the players attitudes and they are always favored by the refs. My favorite players are Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Kyle Weaver.
