While the final score reads 38-23, 21 of SC's points came from turnovers -- two directly and one from a late UK non-4th down conversion. A hat-tip goes out to SC's defense, who played a big part in UK's 5 cough-ups, including South Carolina's first score of the game.
During the play, Woodson fumbled while being sacked. SC's Eric Norwood recovered and took it in for the TD, one of two fumble returns Norwood returned for six.
While the Gamecocks deserve credit for covering UK's down-field attack, Woodson and Burton seemed out of sync on passes beyond the dink-and-dunk variety. The two missed a number of times on deeper passes that Burton normally makes plays on. Same for Woodson who overthrew Burton once one a WIDE open play and another under throw that resulted in a Woodson interception... in the red zone, no less.
On the other hand, the defense did the best it could do. In fact, UK's defense initiated a number of 3-and-outs in the 1st and 2nd half... alas, the offense couldn't respond. In defeat, UK is now 0-15 against Coach Steve Spurrier. Awesome. Time to enter "maybe next year" mode.
A game-ball goes out the Raphael Little, who had 135 yards on 25 carries. Little also corralled 3 passes for 23 yards and was the KEY component to any of UK's positive drives.
I'll be back tomorrow with a longer write-up. Until then, GBB!!!
I only saw the 2nd half. KY did EVERYTHING they could think of NOT to win.
It happens. Now Spurrier can sulk about his ranking until his final four games, which could all be losses. Fear the visor!
i think we measure season success differently. no one in the Commonwealth expected to go undefeated and be in the thick of the BCS. the majority of us wanted UK to continue their improvement they showed last year.
now, if we are talking contending Nationally, then yes, we are pretty much done, but when the season started, i was part of the 9-3 crowd and if this team gets to that, then it was a great season.
tough loss last night. Uncharacteristic mistakes by Woodson hurt the cats big time. The cat's defense actually played a solid game, particularly in the 3rd qtr. Unfortunately, we didn't force any turnovers from S.C. that we were able to capatilize on. i think this loss will hurt much more than the ones against LSU and UF will(if we lose both). Costly turnovers seem to be the Cats MO this year. Still Uk is continuing to build on last year's success and hopefully will continue to do so for the forseeable future.
(OMG) do i hear the shuffling of paper and the ink to make the (FIRE BROOKS) banners already???? are the HOTHEADS in wildcat town clearing their voices????? harking back to yes when adam and eve roamed the earth (JOKING NOW)
but i do rember when coach brooks was on the hot seat so many times its a wonder he had a rear end!!! im talking about here in eugene, oregon as coach of the university of oregon ducks!!! god if i had been him i think i would have found anouther profession damned if he did ?? damned if he didnt!!!! no i wasnt to thrilled some times with him... but when i see a coach go to a basketball KNOWN college and do what hes done at kentucky in football!!!! HEY THUMBS UP!!!!!!
jedi, so much of the game is mental....and we have never beaten Spurrier and he isn't ashamed to let all know about it. Until we jump that hurdle he will always have our number. Tough loss! I hope we can shake it off and move on.
gambit, what might just be over? Our season? I don't think so.
Kelly, absolutely NOT!! No one here is talking about firing Brooks!! UK has a FALSE reputation concerning our coaches.
bluegrass i was just kidding i think there is always those idiots waiting to stomp on a coach ... as i said when brooks was at oregon he was always under the gun.... finally after years he took us to the rose bowl losing to penn state
hey bluegrass so does the (u of o) we get rapped al the time!!! in fact in the pac-10 unless your USC, UCLA!!! if you arent consistant boy will you get side swipped ripped.... and ooops USC and ucla got beat!!! usc by stanford and ucla by ND??? oops how funny
You know what you are correct. if you finish with a 9-3 or 10-2 record and make the SEC game then for Kentucky that is success. So much so that it's something to build on.
bluegrasslady- no what I was saying is that your hopes of a national championship or even getting any respect and getting to a BCS bowl game is over. No disrespect but I was pulling for Kentucky to do well. I think it's wonderful to see such teams build a program that is respected out of nowhere.
