Top 10 Offensive Linemen in the NFL today
Jun 14, 2008 | 8:38AM | report this

First of all as a disclamer i'm listening to New Soul by Yael Naim so if my list seems a little "soft" please forgive me.

10. Joe Thomas.

C'mon he's only played one year(you got me there). Lots of people have good rookie years and never rebound(true). Yeah he hasn't entirely proven himself(wrong). If theres one lineman on the Browns who has proven themself it is Joe Thomas.

He made the Pro Bowl and played every snap. Thomas came in second in the voting for NFL Rookie of the Year. He was the only other person to receive votes other than the eventual winner

Adrian Peterson.

9. Matt Light.

He is the anchor of the offensive line of the most winning team of this century. He's really shined in the past 3 years and although he is a little overated he's not too overated to be on this list. It's true he doesn't have as much talent as some guys on this list but he's a flat out winner and a great lineman.

8. Alan Faneca.

His play has been very incosistent lately. He's made the Pro-Bowl on reputation alone. But even with those demerits he's still one of the best out there. One of the best Steeler lineman ever(according to All-75th Anniversary Team voted by fans).

5 All-Pro. 7 Pro-Bowl. And a big shiny super bowl ring. He's a beast. And the steelers are probably eviotos for getting  rid of him.

7. Tom Nalen.

Honestly you look at this picture and say hey! It's John Elway! The 5th best QB of all time(according to me). But who's the guy with those tight #### pants on. His 5 pro bowls and no All-Pro's means he is a fan favorite. I like fan favorites. 2 super bowls and consitency put this guy at the number "7" spot.

6. Flozell Adams.

He is one of the few people keeping Romo from being exposed as the mediocre QB he is. Adams is a solid and sometimes clutch protector.

5. Steve Hutchinson.

Yeah I'm a biased michigan fan so deal with it.

But 5 all-pro selections(and 5 pro-bowls) make him a skilled reconized lineman.

 4. Jeff Saturday

while watching the Super Bowl(last year) I noticed the MVP of that super bowl wasn't Manning. It wasn't Addai. It was Saturday. He opened wholes like a it was nothing and in the past 3 years he's been the best center in the NFL.

3. Willie Anderson.

I'm going to go with Anderson because I don't think he's had as many talented players lining up (direcetly) next to him. Although he was injured last year, he had an impressive run for 10 years as a starter.

2. Orlando Pace.

The numbers on this guy are incredible. in 11 years he's amounted to a Super Bowl Champ. A 7 time Pro Bowler. A 6 time All-Pro. But the only thing separating him from number 1 is injuries.

1. Walter Jones.

In the same amount of time Pace has gotten 7 pro bowls. Jones got 8. In the same time Pace got 6 all-pros. Jones got 7. Does it mean he's alot better. No. It's probably just because of injury but that doesn't matter because the best O-lineman in the game today is Walter Jones.

Honorable mention

Eric Steinbach-solid

 Leonard Davis-pretty goof

Jake Long-not even played yet and already overpaid,

No way is Faneca in the top ten. Two years ago he definitely was however, he is a shadow of his former self and one of the reasons Ben was on his back the second most times in the NFL last season.

Being a Steeler fan I can honestly say while I enjoyed having Faneca play for us for many years, It was a great business decision to not sign him to that kind of money the way he is playing now.

Jonathon Ogden still belongs on that list. The rest of the list is pretty good. Good job.

Jonathan Ogden is retired.

Orlando Pace should be further down the list because he is really only part time.

Hutch should probably be #1.

Flozell is annoying to watch. Probably the most penalized OL in the game. Still a top 10 guy but probably not as high as you have him.

sixfig- Yes way, Alan Faneca is in the Top 10. He can't help it if he's the only guy in the front 5 serious about protecting Ben. I think he'll do fine with the Jets of NY.

BTW- TrueBlue+Maize, do you mean that Davis is "pretty good"? Cause it says "Preety goof" Just thought I'd let ya know!

Take care!

Lets see,

In 1 1/2 years, here is what Romo has done,

64.8 Pass Pct.
7114 Yards
55 TD'S
97 Rating

But your right, he is just mediocre!

I think it's pretty ridiculous that Olin Kreutz isn't on this list. Until last year which even that wasn't all that bad, he has been THE best center in football. Far better than Saturday and Nalen for sure.

Olin Kreutz deserves to be on this last past Jeff Saturday.

Nice list. Couple comments. I don't think you can put a guy on this list with one year of pro experience. I like Thomas and he will eventually be on here. I'd also take Nalen off. He was exceptional from 1997 to 2003. Since then he is still very good, but not top 10 great.

I would put Matt Birk on there instead of Nalen. He's been to more Pro Bowls and is one of the best centers in the NFL. I would also put Shaun Andrews on the list instead of Thomas. He is a terrific RG and is an anchor on that Eagle offensive line. Good article.

I agree that Hutch should be higher, but I think that there is one guy missing from this list. Logan Mankins from the Pats. I mean some experts even rank him higher than Hutchinson. Chris Samuels, Mark Tauscher, Matt Birk, and Olin Kruetz are all worthy considerations too.

HEY,
DIDN'T THE GIANTS WIN THE SB ?? WHAT ABOUT THEIR GUYS--YOU DON'T THINK O'HARA'S AN ALL PRO ?? HE DOES CAPTAIN A PRETTY GOOD BUNCH OF SHIPMATES. BUT IN ALL FAIRNESS--THEY DID IT AS A TEAM--THAT'S PROBABLY WHY NONE OF THEM MADE IT-TOO BAD THE OTHERS GET THEIR NAMES IN COLUMNS BUT HAVE NO RINGS TO SHOW FOR IT RECENTLY.

Are you considering guys like Nalen, are you looking at them now, or their whole career? If you rate them how they're playing now, i think it goes like so

10. Matt Light
9. Jeff Saturday
8. Jason Peters
7. Matt Birk
6. Joe Thomas
5. Olin Kreutz
4. Orlando Pace
3. Shaun Andrews
2. Steve Huchinson
1. Walter Jones

That is their ranking of how they're playing NOW..

Oh, and about the Giants.....O'Hara is NOT a top ten offensive lineman in the league. Just because they won the superbowl, doesn't make him great. Their defense won that superbowl.

Kind of funny that now that faneca does not play for Pitt Steeler fans ay he was not that good!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA what a joke, HE WAS THE BEST PLAYER ON THE LINE. The tackles blow on the Steelers I watched both of your tackjles give up THREE sacks each in the Denver game last year and it had nothing to do with Faneca. Let me Hear again from steeler fans that Fanceca did not play hard last year because he di not want to get hurt!!DOES THAT MAKE ANY SINCE. OR let me hear again how player leave the Steelers and are not that good anymore!!!! What a joke. BEN will be out for the year by week 5 because the Steelers have the worst OL in Football!!!!!

If Romo's stats in his very short time as a starter are any indication, then one of 2 things MUST be fact:

1) Romo is a FAR cry from 'mediocre' as you put it. Rather, he must be mentioned in the same sentence as the 3-4 elite QB's in the league at this point.

2) If Romo is indeed 'mediocre' (that cracks me up!!) then Adams is far and away he absolute BEST offensive lineman on this list. Matter of fact, just ink in the ENTIRE COWBOYS O-LINE as the BEST IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL. I mean, you'd have to, given the fact that Romo is only 'mediocre'.

You are a dolt. Leave the talent evaluation blogs to someone that has a clue, because obviously you don't. Dumazzz.

Records and honors
2006 Pro Bowl
2007 Pro Bowl

Dallas Cowboys team records

Season
Games with 300+ yards passing: 7 (2007); Romo already has ten such games in his career, three short of Aikman's club record of 13.
Passing TDs: 36 (2007); previously held by Danny White with 29
Passing yards: 4211 (2007); first Cowboys quarterback to throw for more than 4,000 yards in a season
Completions: 335 (2007); previously held by White with 334

Game
TD passes: 5 (Nov 23, 2006); tied with Aikman

Yeah i mean who are those aikman or staubach guys? lol must be some "mediocore" qb's .... and how #### is that music you are listening too?

You should pull your iphone out of your purse and look up some stats every once in while! haha

Absolutely accurate, Walter Jones is the elite offensive lineman in the NFL!!!!! But sadly the end is coming soon for him, so I'll enjoy this article for what it is!!!

You forgot about Olin Kreutz. The Bears have arguably the best center in the league. He's completely uderrated, a bright spot on Chicago's deadbeat offense. And the only reason he had a subar season is because he had to cover the left guard position along with center.

About Tony Romo.....i'm not saying he's bad, he's actually very good.....but all those records came in one year. I could list a bunch of Jamal Lewis records that he broke of great players....am i correct in saying he's a mediocre running back?

ABOUT ME

True0Blue0And0Maize
Love Michigan football. Carolina Panthers. UNC Basketball. Detroit Tigers/Red Sox. Actually I'm not a Tiger guy. My parents love them but my uncle(who i was close with) gave me a Sox hat for my 6th B-day. When I saw MY hat on TV. I guess that was the moment. I'd like to see more successful Tiger seasons but at least I've got the Red Sox to cheer me up(although they don't look too good). I guess my story is Born in Michigan moved to North Carolina at 13 and saw first ever home panthers game. I loved them for some reason.
