Friday, Setanta Sports announced they'll have exclusive rights to show more than 90 live Premiership matches on North American TV during the 2006/2007 season.
Starting August 19th, Fox Soccer Channel and Setanta will be sharing matches. Setanta will show the 7:30am ET match on Saturdays. At 10am ET, Fox will show one match, while Setanta will show a different Prem match. Then at Noon and 3pm, Fox will show their matches.
On Sundays, Setanta will be showing the 8:30am ET match, while Fox will show the 11am ET one.
Fox will show Monday matches, when available, at 3pm ET, while Setanta will show one or more midweek matches (while Fox may show some mid-week matches), too.
As you can imagine, this is huge news for Premiership fans in the US. To listen to an exclusive interview with Setanta Sports and to find out what the changes mean to you, listen to the EPL Talk Podcast at http://www.EPLTalk.com (and click on the podcast link near the top).
For soccer fans in the States who are agonizingly missing out on watching live World Cup matches (and there are many of us), there's one thing we're missing. And that's live soccer via broadband.
Although the BBC is offering the service via its web site, the service is only for residents of the UK. Were the rights for Internet broadcasting of the matches in the US never purchased? Or did someone buy them and decide not to use them?
