The day Andrew Bynum's kneecap left us, the Lakers, to everyone's surprise, had the best record in the Western Conference. Bynum was the missing key, the young bench was stepping up and Kobe was playing at an MVP-make-your-teammates-better level. All us Laker fans were alone on our message boards with everybody cringing at the fact that the Lakers had been rebuilt so fast. With 2 wins against Phoenix, a split with San Antonio and not having played Dallas yet, nobody could say much negative. But two key injuries later, the Lakers drop games to the Suns, San Antonio and Dallas in one week. Not unexpected for a depleted team right? Think again, go into the Lakers board now and it's riddled with Laker-haters, don't blame your injuries for the Fakers' losses. Fakers this and Fakers that. Which got me to thinking? Where does all this animosity come from? When we beat the Suns, never once did I enter the Suns board to talk trash, I was just proud of my team. But the irrelevance of the Suns and Mavericks franchises in the history of basketball has got the fans insecure and hateful. Next time you guys go into your arena's and look up at your division titles, remember that I'm going into Staples looking up at 14 Championship banners. Which is the answer to my question. Why are the Lakers hated so much? Because they're winners, that's why.
have you gone to the other teams message boards there is just as much trash talk there as on the Lakers - I'm a Suns fan myself but dislike the trash talk - I like the "Thumper rule" if you can not say anything possitive or nice - at least keep the yuk out of your comments...
I agree with you on this. Not from Cali but been a laker fan since the "Showtime" days. I have a home team (New Orleans) but since coming here they are my second fav. team. I do not jump allegiances. People who are fans of the Pheonix Bums and other teams like that feel as if the Lakers are a threat (which they are so I guess they have a point) but they aren't used to being real winners, so that is why they do things like that. Us Laker fans have been there numerous times and will always handle winning and losing with class. As for the Bynum injury it's only temporary and he's young. He'll heal fast and just fine. We'll be back to put a beating on the likes of the Suns (a.k.a. the Bums) again soon enough. This year they'll be the ones who are one and done!
Now I understand why Kobe wanted to be traded. He didn't want to be around a bunch of losers. Without Bynum, that's exactly what they are, specially their coach. PJ has this knack of being more of a spectator rather than being a coach. He doesn't call timeouts unless the team is on the verge of a collapse, and when he does, the Lakers are so deep in the hole that they never manage to get out. He has this wierd rotations that even if the player is hot, he gets benched for a full quarter, and by the time, he gets back in, he's as cold as ice. To make this team competitive, I would trade Kwame, Lamar and even Luke. They have proven to be NPAs (Non-performing Assets).
1. Kobe Bryant
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Any time the Lakers start to show that they may be getting back to their dominating form, haters come out of the woodwork.
4. Kobe Bryant
By the way, I am a Lakers fan. I do have a hard time defending Kobe though. If he were on any other team, I wouldn't like him.
Also, I, like you, am a fan who likes to take pride in my teams without the smack talk. I do struggle with other people coming into "my domain" hating without invitation. I am more than happy to debate, but don't just make stupid comments and put downs. Good job!

Who cares its all in fun, I hope the suns fans hate the lakers cuz i hate the suns, and the spurs. Although I respect the spurs I think the suns are bunch of ####.
And the lakers shouldnt of lost either of those games in texas put those on Phil and his terrible halftime (or lack thereof) adjustments, and returning to kwame to start after half time when he is clearly the number 3 center right now, 4 with bynum back and 5 when mihm is available. Hello cut the lazy sack of ####
The haters are there because people either admire success or revolt against it. You don't see a lot of Sun's haters do you? The reason is simple..they have been an average at best franchise since day one. They have been in the league for almost 40 years and have 2 finals appearances and 0 rings. This same thing goes on in every sport IE: Cowboys,Yankees. This also applys to individual players, Wilt was villanized and criticised,Kobe,Reggie Jackson,A-Rod and the list goes on. People claim to not like certain teams or certain players for every reason under the sun except that they are great. You will here excuses like I hate Kobe because he eats eggs for breakfast but you will never hear someone say I hate Kobe because he just dominates on the court.
95% of these same people would be happier than a pig in #### if their team suddenly acquired Kobe. You'd hear things like...Kobe is going to have a fresh start and lead this team over the top!!! I have been a Lakers,Yankees,Cowboys fan since I started watching sports at the age of 8. I have never wavered or been a fickle fan. I was attracted to these teams before I was old enough to understand all the negative comments. I just fell in love with guys like Staubach,Kareem,Ron Guidry. I have caght a lot of flack for backing these teams with other fans, and I am sure I don't have to tell you why. When asked why I like teams like those I simply answer--" BECAUSE THEY WIN".
I am a pround Suns fan ! Always will be and have been. I like the Lakers of old West,Jabbar,Worthy them Magic. I even pulled for them against the East Boston Teams all thoughs years. Your right can't stand your K.B. team at all. I will pull for any team they face in the play-offs ! And to tell you the truth its not the Lakers we hate its you K-B we can't stand !
Just to set you right on our thoughts ! We speak for our selves and don't need a Laker lover to do it for us.
Thanks for reading guys and I agree with most of your comments except regarding Phil. I can't blame anything on him and we all know his coaching style is out there, but his 9 rings speak for themselves. Pre kneecap episode, Kobe was MVP and PJ was coach of the year in my book. Remember Shaq and Kobe played a couple years together, but they never won until PJ arrived. Bynum will be back and he will have about 20 or so games before playoffs to get back his sea legs, and with the west being as wide open as it is, I wouldn't care if land an 8th seed this year, because honestly the only team that truly concerns me are the Spurs. They play for the playoffs which is why they wont be a 1 seed, but Dallas and Phoenix blow there load prematurely to get a good regular season record, which is why they always get bounced. We will stay afloat until our rotation gets back to normal then the real season begins.
I disagree ea7777, Kobe is hated more because he is a Laker, not the other way around. If kobe played for any other franchise people wouldn't care as much. We all know Suns fans would wet themselves if they got Kobe paired with Nash, and trying to convince yourself otherwise is a lie. There are a countless worse people playing in the NBA right now, but people never talk about them, just Kobe, because he is a Laker.
We did beat your team in the play-offs the last two years. So you might want to remember that as your downing Dallas and the Suns ! We at least advanced to the second and third rounds. But we'd be glade to face you a third time over any other team out there in the first round. HA
If the goal of your team is to beat the Lakers the first round then quietly exit, then congratulations, because youve accomplished that wonderfully. BUt I doubt that your goal is such. We all know you guys think your going to win a championship, but still havent. Why not? So if telling Laker fans that you beat us every year comforts the fact that your team fails in its goals ever year, then by all means keep doing it, but we all know in the big picture the suns havent accomplished ####, and probably ever wont.
Some people may be hating on the Lakers, but not everyone. Some recognize their progress as I do. But like it or not, they are still pretenders, rather than contenders. You should be happy with that status because in the previous years, they've been completely irrelevant. They are relevant now, but not legitimate players in the western conference. The only current contenders are SA, DAL, and NO. Even Phoenix is still a pretender in the WC. Until they can play some defense, they will stay in the same boat as the Lakers.
I agree with SA and Dallas, but NO??? Theyre pretty good but the only reason you put them in that category is because they just whooped on you guys. But seriously, we whooped on them, so what does that say. I'll tell you what it says, it says the west is WIDE open and very deep this year. Nobody knows who's going to come out, every team, 1-8 is good, and no team is dominant. Its the Spurs title to lose, and they haven't done a back to back yet, so we'll see...
Hey, you're not alone. Although I'm not currently a Lakers fan, I believe that the NBA must give Kobe the MVP because it is long overdue, and he's arguably still the best player since Jordan. Off court antics are none of our business. Remember Rodman, he was the baddest but the NBA still loved him, and nobody can say that he was not an asset to the Bulls.
By the way, I can't understand why I can't see my blogs, even though I categorized them as NBA, NBA Finals, etc., I can't see them in the NBA blogs except when I go to My Blog. How do you guys do it?
"NO??? Theyre pretty good but the only reason you put them in that category is because they just whooped on you guys."
Not true. Several weeks ago I deemed NO to be one of the few serious contenders in the WC. Yes the west is wide open, but in a 7 game series, many teams don't have a great shot.
gr8un54, looking at your profile and seeing your fav. teams, I guess you do know arrogant and delusional fans. Thats what most of your teams have! GO LAKERS!!!
Realistically, people have judged Kobe based on his actions and ego. He is an obvious target, and that combined with the smugness and somewhat deserved arrogance of the Lakers fans due to their history of success in the league is why there are so many haters. I wish them the best and hope they get all their players healthy in time to make a run deep into the playoffs!
ITS NOT THE LAKERS ITS L.A. EVERYONE HATES. I DON'T CARE IF ITS THE DODGERS, ANGELS. SC, UCLA, CLIPPERS, KINGS OR DUCKS THEY ARE HATED BECAUSE THEY REPRESENT L.A. I KNOW ITS JUST JEALOUSY. BESIDES WHAT OTHER CITY IS THERE A NATIONAL CHEER AGAINST THEIR TOWN. I LOVE THE "BEAT L.A." CHEER IT LETS ME KNOW WE ARE FEARED. L.A. YESTERDAY, L.A. TODAY, AND L.A. FOREVER. PEACE AND LOVE TO THE DIRTIEST BSG
