Bad Tires Somehow Manage To Actually Make Driving In Circles Boring
Jul 29, 2008 | 6:44AM | report this

On Sunday, the normally incredibly intense action of driving around in circles was somehow derailed by bad tires. Goodyear, a company so cheap it created it's own fleet of flying derigibles to avoid paying ticket prices to watch sporting events, couldn't make tires that could withstand more than 10 laps at a time on Indianapolis Raceway. Caution after caution were called for teams to replace tires, resulting in an extremely long and boring race for fans.

"I came here to see people driving around in a circle really fast!" said disappointed fan Jimmy Bryan. "Well, not as fast as F1 or IndyCar, as those sports are really boring, but kind of fast. But we just got to see people changing tires all day, it was like sitting in an auto repair show for a couple hours just watching people work. I've already taken my family to do that once this week, I didn't want to do it again."

Some fans were happy with the race though, "I thought it was very exciting," said Jim Wallace, "Watching people drive the speed limit for 3 hours, while stopping every 10 minutes, was incredibly exhilarating because that's what I do on my daily commute. NASCAR really is appealing to the casual fan with this new style of racing, as I can see myself out there driving for a couple minutes before I see that yellow flag and think "####, I have to stop again." It's like watching my morning commute, only with louder cars and giant bumper stickers for things like laundry detergent and chewing tobacco on the sides."
