CLEVELANDING IN THE WORLD SERIES?
Oct 16, 2007 | 8:18PM | report this

As I type this here's where the game stands:

Bottom of the 7th inning, 2 outs, Cleveland 7   Boston  3.

Barring back to back to back jacks again by Youkilis, Ortiz, Manny, or any other scenario of runs scored that the BoSox are more than capable of....

For arguments sake...is this series over if Cleveland goes up 3-1?  Keep in Mind their World Series run when they came back against the Yankees in 2004 in a similar situation.

What does everyone think?

Now what does everyone think? 3-2 headed back to Boston! And, the Indians got the ole smackdown!

I want to hear from the BoSox Homers that predicted a sweep just because they swept the Angels. Just want an opinion.

I think it's possible...after 2004, yes, it's possible.

Cleveland's certainly got the momentum. And noone other than Manny, Yuke, Ortiz and Beckett have showed up this series.

The Sox are showing a lot of negativity in their body language while the Tribe looks movitated. If the Bosox don't turn it around soon, Cleveland could be facing the Rocks.

Good thing they have Beckett starting Game Five. They'll need him.

Congrats indians fans!! Your team has outplayed us, been blessed at the right time by the baseball gods, and look poised to represent the AL in the WS, I was just texting with some Boston friends about how this years sox team just doesn't seem to have that intangible chemistry and fire to step up their game. That's what happens when you get fat and happy and can't rely on the underdog role anymore to help pick you up a notch.

yes, Beckett could turn out to be the MVP of this series, remember, he could pitch the game of his life, but still lose 1-0.

Of course it's possible that the Red Sox will come back. It's never over until the last out is recorded or the winning run scores. The Indians seem more focused and determined though, so it's going to take a huge group effort from the Red Sox for it to happen. Personally, I hope the Indians wrap it up at home in Game 5.

Were the Yanks not focused to put away the Sox back in 2004? That was a veteran team with a lot of playoff experience.

Can the BoSox regroup? Did they downplay the Tribe? Surely not.

You got it right, Bestsportshub. This series ends in Cleveburg on Thursday.
Beckett is hurt.
Sabathia has Game 1 to make up for and he's gotta be as hungry as it gets. He will be unstoppable.

Last, but not least, Manny really blew it tonight when he hotdogged after his homer. Totally bad play, Manny. And you were my favorite hitter here. But you're too stupid to be banking all tha $$$$$

Manny's grandstanding will be a video loop to haunt him for a long, long time. That was the Boston jinx. It's over for Beantown.

Amen to that Vearl.

Wouldn't this probably be the LOWEST ratings WS in history. Or could the post-season get any lower ratings?

Sorry, 88.
Didn't meant to allude to "THAT" jinx. I think that one is buried.

It's just that when a player grandstands like Manny did, at a totally inappropriate moment (when his homer brought it to a 4-run deficit) and was very disrespectful. If an Indian pulled that #### in Beantown there would have been bloodshed.

Manny's "stunt", or whatever they'll be calling it by the morning news, is the type of thing that sets the tone for a series. It was not mentioned during any of the press conferences afterward, but we all know it's the hottest issue. The players won't forget.

No doubt, if the Tribe wins, this will be a low-ratings WS.

But I'll watch it no matter what, since Denver is the 6th lowest payroll in the majors. And if the Tribe gets in, you've got two of the cheapest teams in baseball at the biggest show. And that will hopefully send a message to the Steinbrenners, etc.

It's 6.75 for a beer at our stadium now.
This has got to stop.

If you're a baseball fan, you'll watch the series.
If you just like watching the highest paid players, you won't.

well, unfortunately, as always, I'm at work. And was at work during the game. So I didn't get to see Manny's stunt. From your description it seemed uncalled for though. Maybe I can catch Steve Phillips take on it or Kruk's.

I watch the WS (if I can on nights off) just because I love WS games. To me, they are just as exciting as NFL playoff games, CFB games, and the higher profile games now.

If I will be at work, then I will be GameTraxing it.

The ALCS isn't over; Boston in 2004 proved that. Beckett could win a 1-0 game. But the Sox would then have to deal with Fausto Carmona, who's been NASTY this postseason, aside from Game 2 of this series.

Prediction: Rockies beat the Indians in five games in the World Series. (DISCLAIMER: NL West honk here)

I think there will be too much pressure on Beckett to come up big. C.C. will have no pressure being up 3 to 1 and will be more relaxed than in Game 1. Sorry but I think it is over for Boston.

This is goina be a low ratings series but has interest, we have low budget teams fighting it out, that is if Boston loses could this be what baseball needs....hardly we need to see the big name teams, its not over thier in Boston yet.........Rockies are something though!

Beckett resurrected his career in Boston. No he hasn't shined greatly so far.

Is there the Beckett from the Marlins WS caliber within him?

I agree Vearl...in my opinion, since I'm a Reds fan...

NOT seeing a big market team dominate would be an awesome WS.

Having two teams, that are young, and playing with heart and guts as well as talent is what the WS is all about.

Should Cleveland/Colorado go at it...won't it be something for the ages? No matter what the ratings indicate!

I thought the Tribe had a fair shot at taking the series simply because I thought we had 2 of the 3 best starters. Looks like we're headed to play the Rockies, and I hope we take this series in front of the home crowd. I call the Indians "we" because they've been my favorite team since the early 90s when none other than Lofton was my favorite player. Life is cyclical, I guess. Anyone, here's to Chief Wahoo!

You most certainly do have 2 of the best 3 starters. The BoSox MAY have the best though. Neither Aces proved themselves yet.

You have a very good shot at the WS, but...gotta win 4...not 3.

I would say Beckett pitched a good first game. I digress

Tim brings up Kenny Lofton ! Yes Im a fan and I did a blog about why and so on. I have also posted that I didnt think they could do it this year for only a few reason. They have showed a no fear attitude to make up for that.

I think they will be around at the top for awhile but more for this year I would like to see Kenny Lofton get a ring. He is out playing guys almost half his age and that is playing with heart.

And then they were all crying in 'beantown.
But what the hell do I know I get my insurance with GEICO. You don't know when you've got things going well for you until you're on the precipiece and about to fall off. Where's the so called pitching that the Sox have ?

I said it last night, and I'll say it again.. NO, Wait! I'll let Boston Herald columnist Alex Speier do it:
"“Three rockets. Manny’s was unbelievable,” said third baseman Mike Lowell. “I’ve got to ask him about the hands up (watching at the plate) in a 7-2 (game). I don’t really understand that one, but that’s him.”

Lowell’s confusion was understandable. The other participants in the first-time feat proved unable to enjoy their accomplishment with their team now one loss away from the end of the season."
[end of quote]
Manny's 'faux pas' has set the tone for the rest of this series. It was the hottest issue this morning on Cleveland talk radio, and if it goes past Game 5 (doubtful at this point), every single Tribe player will be gunning to stuff it down Manny's maw.

You (Manny) don't do stupid stunts like that when you're in someone else's house. It was totally inappropriate, your team lost the game ANYWAY, and you just put some extra fire in the gut of a team that's so fired up right now they're ready to burst.

Cleveland's ace pitcher (Sabathia) is going to put on a show in Game 5 that we'll remember.
Boston won't be able to do anything that we'll remember more than Manny grandstanding after his useless (but impressive!) homer in the 3rd of Game 4.

BTW, I love clam chowder.....

It's not looking good for the Red Sox

Clevland bullpen is tough and although Beckett is going thursday(weather permitting), Sabbathia will be pitching with no pressure, and I just don't see him throwing 3 straight bad games.

Like Manny says "there's always next year"
