TNRC - Pocono
Aug 07, 2007 | 12:31AM | report this

Alrighty then, time for another round at Pocono (special thanks go to photo for beating how to spell this track correctly into my head...yes, the bruise is healing nicely, thanks for asking) and we had, possibly, the most dominant performance of the year as Kurt Busch piloted his #2 Miller Lite Che...uh, make that Dodge (sorry, just used to a Chevy winning this season) to lead over 170 of 200 laps. The race behind him was hard fought however with Dale Jr managing to work some strategy to come back from a spin to finish in second with Denny Hamlin just holding off championship leader, Jeff Gordon, for third.

Not surprisingly, the two drivers who jumped up the most were Kurt and Dale, while Jeff was able to eek out another point on Jimmie to stretch his lead to 27 points.

Kurt gave the Penske team that first win in '07 they'd been longing for

A reminder to those reading this for the first time that my system is what they use in F1; top 8 only score points - 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1...too bad if you finish in ninth.

Tez's NASCAR Race Championship (TNRC) Standings - after round 21

1 - Jeff Gordon, 100* points (4 wins)
2 - Jimmie Johnson, 73 points (4 wins)
3 - Tony Stewart, 62* points (2 wins)
4 - Denny Hamlin, 54.5* points (1 win)
=5 - Jeff Burton, 48 points (1 win)
=5 - Matt Kenseth, 48 points (1 win)
7 - Kyle Busch, 42.5* points (1 win)
8 - Kevin Harvick, 38 points (1 win)
9 - Carl Edwards, 36 points (1 win)
10 - Kurt Busch, 31 points (1 win)
11 - Martin Truex Jr, 30* points (1 win)
12 - Mark Martin, 28* points
13 - Dale Earnhardt Jr, 27 points
14 - Ryan Newman, 24* points
15 - Juan Montoya, 23 points (1 win)
16 - Casey Mears, 21.5* points (1 win)
17 - Jamie McMurray, 19 points (1 win)
18 - Greg Biffle, 17 points
19 - Clint Bowyer, 16 points
=20 - Jeff Green, 9 points
=20 - Reed Sorenson, 9 points
22 - JJ Yeley, 8 points
=23 - David Gilliland, 6 points
=23 - Kyle Petty, 6 points
25 - Mike Wallace, 5 points
=26 - David Ragan, 4 points
=26 - Brian Vickers, 4 points
28 - Elliot Sadler, 3 points
=29 - Kasey Kahne, 2 points
=29 - Ricky Rudd, 2 points
=31 - Bobby Labonte, 1 point
=31 - Scott Riggs, 1 point
=31 - David Stremme, 1 point

(* denotes half points only awarded as race did not reach 75% completion)

So there we have it, the race at this stage appears to be for second place as Jeff's consistancy is making it hard for anyone to make a charge on him. But, we still have 15 races to go so one driver can, potentially, make up 150 points so 27 isn't all that big in comparison...but the odds are against someone doing that obviously.

OMG!!!!!! AMBROSE IS GOING TO HAVE HIS CUP DEBUT IN ROBBY'S CAR #77!!!!

Oh man, what a sweet twist of fate... I hope Ambrose uses this opportunity and can qualify for the race. It is going to be awesome to see Carpentier and Ambrose on the road course for both of their Cup debuts. Awesome.

You are right, Lori. It will be great if both of them make it in the race. BTW, my middle child is named Lori and she looks like you. That is just one reason I love ya!

I heard Lee Spencer on Sirius Sat. Radio and she said that she has talked with Robby and Eddie Wood. She said this is going to happen. I sure hope it does. Marcos will be awesome if he makes the race. I guess it will depend on the equipment/car that Robby provides for him.

Chux; hi yourself.....keep that radio show going, mate, it's real good.

Lisa; I wish I got paid for doing this, but, alas, I make a far better Engineer than I do a writer, lol

volfan & Lori; cheers to both of you for the kind words about Marcos....I hope it's accurate too :)

So now TEZ, you are giving out your phone number to the gals.. UMMM Quite a ladys man you are..

On Foumula 1 format there are 22 drivers in Formula 1 that race each race.. If that is the case, there are 43 drivers in NASCAR. Would it be a better representation if you adjusted the points to reflect that or Am I just all wet and you are doing that??

photo; a ladies man you reckon....it would appear I am a late bloomer at it then since that don't happen to me in real life, lol

No, I haven't made any adjustments for the extra number of cars racing....I might do that next year if I continue doing this system.

I actually have an idea of scoring the Chase like this....have both this title going for 13th and the top 12 guys resetting on zero points with 2 for each win (since 2 is the gap between winning and second) they have.

Tez:

That sounds like a good idea. Be interesting to see how that pans out...

Tez is a rare creature; an Australian who was living in New Zealand before moving to Canada. He's also a Civil Engineer who is hoping to spend his Monday to Friday sitting in front of a computer surfing the inter...uh, working hard for an Engineering Consultant or Contractor when he finds a job. His heart is torn between his two loves; F1 and NASCAR. Due to his high interest in those, his blogs will likely focus on them with the occasional foray into sports that don't get much (if any) mention on this website. All blogs and/or comments will more than likely have his usual dollop of sarcasm and general Aussie spin on them. Amazingly, he also managed to score 2 MiB nominations on consecutive days (August 5 & 6, 2007) after announcing he had been keeping track of them...he's considering hiding under his bed as a result.
