RaThe drama of Friday's qualifying session at TMS far overshadows the mostly mundane race that took place on Sunday. Thank goodness Mike McDowell is okay. However, qualifying is only part of the show. It's one piece. Let's talk about the Sprint Cup Race now. As I said before, the race was pretty dull. It's one of those NASCAR Races I was a bit bored with. No, it's not because Jeff Gordon completely looked like he'd never raced in his life, and no it wasn't because Jimmie Johnson was close to winning there for awhile. Those things made me angrier than words can express, but not bored. Jeff Gordon has yet to conquer the mile and a half stretch of pavement that is Texas Motor Speedway. Today we got to see a side of Gordon that is rarely seen. He looked out of place. It was strange for us to see. We have been hearing that Hendricks isn't up to it's luster of last season, but until today I just don't think it sunk in. There was something wrong with Jeff's car. It is still unclear what the specific problem was. Jeff Gordon himself didn't even know. When asked what was wrong with his car he responded, "I wish I had an answer for you." The setup wasn't right I guess, who knows... Even ole Jimmie boy didn't seem himself. He spent most of the day chasing down driver Matt Kenseth and the race winner Carl Edwards. He complained constantly about his car through the entire race. In his post race interview Johnson described the race as "boring" and "dull", and even admitted "with this car it's really hard. Guys are afraid to pass." I'll take this time to have an RSR first. I actually agree with ole JJ here. The race was rather boring. I just cannot believe he had to guts to say drivers were afraid to pass. I was thinking the same thing most of the day, but I'm just shocked he or anyone else had the guts to come right out there and say it. This is racing people. GROW UP! If you are too "afriad" to pass anyone then please explain to me why you are here. I'm sure Lowes or whoever your sponsor may be would rather put there money in a man who's less of a Coward. For those of you who picked Dale Jr to win this race I just have to sit back and smile at you. Before you pick a winner next time take a glance at track history. Only once in the history of Texas Motor Speedway has the Pole setter ever won the race. Jeff Burton is the only one to start first and finish that way. It is a shock that Dale Jr didn't make top ten, but going back to ole JJ, when you won't pass you won't win. Point is Hedricks hasn't won and only Jimmie Johnson did remotely decent. Now about Carl Edwards. I am really starting to like this guy, but at the same time I'm starting to fear him too. He's won 3 races and apparently won't let anything get him down. Gotta love a guy who doesn't sit on his butt making excuses all day and actually gets the job done. Sorry Jimmie Edwards isn't afraid to pass. Edwards just looked like he owned the place. Once he got in the lead no one ould catch him. He was a rocket ship among bicycles. He had an excellent car all day. Maybe Jeff should give him a call and get some help with his DuPont Car. Not even after two cautions could Kyle Busch or Jimmie Johnson catch him. If anyone shows a talent for racing the "Car of Today" its #99 Carl Edwards. As usual before entering victory lane Carl Edwards did another signature back flip. I've gotten to the point where I enjoy seeing those now and then. NOTES: J.J Yelley crashed into the inside wall around turn two late in the race. He did not finish. He checked in and out of the onside care center in a matter of 13 min. He's fine Martin Truex Jr. Blew out his engine near the end of the race resulting in the final caution of the day. He made it onto pit road safely. Ray has her JJ avy back because Jeff hates me. funny though this time I wasn't even drinking AMP Mike Mcdowlle is now famos and we all learned that Qualifying isn't boring Bring on Phenox on Saturday Night!! __________________
