The CD has been clear on the issue of banned substances in MLB since this whole issue came to the forefront of the baseball world… If you aren’t breaking the rules, than who the hell cares?
Bonds, McGwire, Sosa- these guys probably took HGH or Anabolic Steriods. Thing is- they weren’t banned by MLB. This latest story with Ankiel will fairly or unfairly hurt one of the best stories we’ve had in Cardinal Nation for quite some time. But before we summarily dismiss everything he’s accomplished in 2007, let’s remeber 2 things.
1. HGH wasn’t banned by MLB in the time frame he allegedely was provided this shipment of human growth hormone. It would be no different if he’d been shipped a case of Moutain Dew.
2. There is no evidence linking him to HGH or any other banned substance after 2004 when MLB had banned HGH.
Frankly, I don’t see the story. And yes, I’m extremely biased. Maybe he bought them for a teammate or a friend? Maybe his neighbor had a sick kid and his family couldn’t afford HGH injections, so Ank bucked up and got them for him? I’m sure Scott Boras will have a statement later today and I’m also sure that many people will choose to believe it’s all a lie.
So be it. Keep hitting those HR’s, Rick- we’ve got your back…
