My guess is L.Tomlinson is the highest paid running back ,i know he signed for 60 million a few years back.So why is it hard for KC to give LJ 59million or even inflate it to 70 million with 35 million in bonuses ,we know he won't see the full 70 million before they cut him or make him take a pay cut.He has 3 years left on his rookie contract but i he shouldnt play for 1 million when he is the second best running back in the league.Plus with all the defections on his o line he better get the money now, because there might be a drop off in 2007.The guy carried the ball 416 times he might have 2 good more years in him carrying the the ball that many times .
This shouldn't be hard, then again this is the NFL,where they cut guys who are productive so they don't have to pay them. See Keyshawn Johnson,
There are too many bad guys in the league making more than him and they shouldn't,and there are too many mediocre backs making more than him,i know timing plays a apart but this shouldn't be hard Carl Peterson.
I think the Chiefs have a similar philosophy to the Broncos. It's the "system" more so than the back running the ball. Priest Holmes, Barry Word, Christian Okoye all ran in the Chiefs offense and all did well although none were ever really considered "top 3 backs" in the league.
I'll be curious to see how LJ does this season without Roaf OR Shields to run behind. If he gets 1,200 - 1,300 yards this year, maybe they should give him the $$$.
SLS Husker was right. Until ESPN and Fox Sports start rattling the cage a bit the Chiefs won't feel the pressure to open the wallets.
