My Humble Opinions on the Week That Was, And Yeah..Jr Too!
Jun 16, 2008 | 10:11PM | report this

It's been an interesting week or so in the NASCAR world. I just can't resist putting my 2 cents worth in!

1.     First off big BIG congrats go out to Jr and the 88 AMP/National Guard team. It was great to finally see them get to Victory Lane, and I was screamin just as loud as any Jr Nation fan for him to make it.

Yay for Jokers for getting his hoodoo/voodoo jinx working. I see the jinx is already on for this weekend. Go Jamie Mac!! LOL. And I'm sure that Kristen is doing her own happy hippy shake even though her Kurt didnt have the best of days. Her Jr did!! You go girl!!

2.      I was so excited to see Joey Logano win in Kentucky on Saturday. The kid is amazing

and I can not wait to see what he has in store for NASCAR in the next few years. More history in the making for us all to sit back, watch and enjoy!!  I read on a blog somewhere, shortly after that race, that Joey wouldn't have won if he wasnt in the JGR 20 car. They intimated that the team cheats and NASCAR turns a blind eye. The whole toyo hosepower advantage came in to play as well. Now it is my humble opinion but that is a load of crapola. I dont know about the hosepower thing personally, but I do know that regardless of your horsepower you need a driver who can DRIVE THE CAR. He's got to be good enough to get that car to the front and to keep it there. It's not going to matter a hot damn how much hp you have if the guy's not good enough to drive the car!! If he's up front, the other 40 some guys arent just going to sit there and say "oh well this is cool, I'll just finish 2nd or 3rd or whatever...that yellow stripe is so cute to look at". Sheesh.

3.     "The Lawsuit"    I have refrained from commenting about this on any of the blogs that have come up. Some of them were truly not worth commenting on and they pretty much proved Ms Grant's case for her. I dont think that we are ever going to know what the truth is. It will be settled out of court I am sure and hushed right up, for obvious reasons. We, the general public, are never going to know a thing other than what is hand-fed to reporters by lawyers on both sides. I think that if only a third of what this woman is claiming is true, then something needs to be done about the people involved. Yet I cannot believe the amount of money she is asking for. It's not like she was injured on the job, lost a body part, and is now incapable of ever working again and will have huge medical bills her whole life. She's asking for more than she'd make in 20 lifetimes working at NASCAR. The only people who are going to end up happy are the lawyers. Also, why would she stay in a job that was so incredibly horrible as to be worth 225 million?? You cant claim 'battered wife syndrome' as she claims to have kept a diary of times, places, and people, so she knew what was happening. It all seems kind of fishy to me. Yet at the same time, like I said, if even part of it is true....

Its a sad and confusing issue to be sure. I'm sure none of us will be satified, whatever the outcome.

4.     You Will Respect My Authority!! So Mr. Mike told the boys to shut up and like it, although NASCAR is claiming they had a meeting to make sure that everyone had us fans' best interests at heart. Funny that the drivers didnt get the memo after they left the meeting. Seems NASCAR wants all their little 'robots' to smile and wave nicely for the camera and not say another word about the new car et al. They've got it good...and he can change that. I loved the comment that Hanny had on his blog from Tony Stewart...leave it to Smoke to tell them to shove their posturing where the sun dont shine! Thanks for that Hanny! NASCAR wants to get back to it's roots. What a joke. I like that NASCAR has become more popular. I think that is a good thing. But I hate the 'tow the line' mentality that is being decreed from the powers that be. Let the guys drive. Let them be themselves. NASCAR isnt a sport for the faint of heart, there's gonna be a little cursin once in awhile, there's going to be anger, and aggression. Yet there's going to be a great sense of communtiy and family and generosity. It all evens out. You dont need a line of robot choir boys to show the greatness in NASCAR. If you leave out the aggression etc, you might as well have 43 cars out there that run about 90 mph around the track and all finish in the exact same position as they started. Sounds fun doesnt it?

Sweetkena, props go to Dale Jr. for winning at Michigan (although I had him winning at Sonoma or Watkins Glen--race courses he wasn't expected to win at, but Michigan qualifies). IMO, it's going to take a few years before the drivers are fully acclimated to the COT. And the Nationwide COT is a BAD idea. Let the Nationwide Series be its own entity. (Now that ends my mini-rant!)

jon, the only reason the Nationwide Series is getting a COT is for the safety factor, hopefully they'll do a better job of making they're car handle better.

kitty- I love the last picture, lol.

I think Helton was telling the wrong driver to quit whining. Or he was telling Bobby to speak up and tell the boys to s*u*c*k it up and drive.

Kena. Very nice job here. I also love the pic of Labonte. He was a member at a country club i managed in Dallas in the 90s. 5'9" 155 lbs in his prime. Helton looks like he could pick him up and throw him into the hauler if needed.

Would be a good celebrity boxing match between him and Jeff Gordon.

I'd put $50 on Gordo.

jon - I'm all for the safety factor, but it is a very expensive undertaking for the NW series to go to the COT. Hopefully the teams can weather the financial storm

Kristen - Is your happy dance part of the taped portion of this weekend's festivites?? Here's to gettin yourself into that big yellow truck!

JW - LOL exactly right...that's just the fans..LMAO

Ok. Lets bet then. I've got $200 that says Jangles could take both of em,, if i can ever get him back from 1885 that is.

I got a 123 year old letter from Western Union earlier saying "He's been learning a lot in the Old West from the Doc."

Very well put blog Sweet.

I wish NASCAR would make up their mind. At the beginning of the season they tell the drivers to speak their minds. Show your personalities.

Now here we are well into the season, and the drivers are saying what they feel and NASCAR doesn't like it.

If NASCAR really cared about what the fans think of NASCAR they would listen to the drivers.

The powers that be at NASCAR, need to just fix this car and let the drivers get back to doing what they do best: Entertaining us the Race Fans.

Oh, yeah congrats to Joey and Jr.
