FRIENDSHIP, RESPECT, MATURITY, COMMUNITY

FRIENDSHIP, RESPECT, MATURITY, COMMUNITY

Words to think about. Powerful words. Words with generic definitions, yet words with terrific undercurrents of meaning defined by the individual, based on personal beliefs and experience. To each one of us, these words mean something different if you dig beyond the generic.

To me, these words are linked by invisible threads. These threads, although invisible, are made of indestructible material. They are not simply threads of gossamer broken by gentle breezes. They are threads of special titanium-like fibers that can withstand the severest storm and batterings of monumental proportions.

Friendship is a precious gift, given and received infinitely, with love and RESPECT between 2 people. It is something to be cherished and nurtured. It is earned and it is not to be taken lightly or abused.  Much effort goes into the building of a friendship, it is not something that just ‘happens’ and if effort is not sustained, it soon withers and dies. In order for one to maintain an adult friendship (For the sake of alleviating argument I will concede that adult friendship and childhood friendship are somewhat different, mainly due of course to age and maturity.) a certain level of MATURITY is required. One must be mature enough to realize that people are different and opinions differ, again based on personal beliefs and experience. One must realize that every person looks at a situation through a filter of those same beliefs and experience and no two filters are ever going to be the same. So times of conflict are sure to arise and to the filters anger, hurt and resentment will be added. But if each one remembers the importance of FRIENDSHIP and can be MATURE enough and RESPECTFUL of each other enough, to be able to talk about the differences and to really be able to listen to each other’s reasons behind those differences, the conflict can often be resolved or a compromise can be reached. Give and take…RESPECT for differences and the MATURITY to disagree. FRIENDSHIP.

Now you add several people to the mix and suddenly you have a COMMUNITY. Within that community there are several different friendships and not all will be the same. Several smaller circles will develop, but all will overlap at some point or other and every person will have a vested interest in the community as a whole. Now if one bad apple happens to insert themselves within said community and that apple continues to rot, yet is adept at covering the slightly moldy smell with flowery words, and sleight of hand tricks, things can go seriously amuck.

Because this apple knows nothing of MATURITY, and has little RESPECT for anyone or anything, it starts whispering in people’s ears and coercing some of the people of the community to lose RESPECT for each other and forget the meaning of FRIENDSHIP.  But the smell and oozing rot cannot be hidden forever, and sooner or later something happens and the apple explodes, leaving an icky mess dripping off the walls and the faces of those closest to the apple. The apple’s true colors and horrible smell are soon reveled.

But the apple soon finds that not all of the community was under its evil spell, and they have not forgotten what COMMUNTIY, RESPECT, MATURITY, and most of all FRIENDSHIP really is. They’ve seen the apple for what it really was and were merrily waiting patiently for the inevitable explosion, ready to help clean the faces of the friends affected. They soothe, they hug, they accept apologies and most of all have the MATURITY and RESPECT for their FRIENDS to forgive them their transgressions. The COMMUNITY is once again intact. What is left of the apple and its colossal and totally unfounded ego is left alone in the gutter, to once again consort with its equals.

Not all are looking for Friendship to belong in a Community. But I agree that Respect and Maturity are of utmost priority. Would also offer that Tact is necessary in the communication between individuals. It will less likely cause negative emotional responses.

Great post. Makes everyone think about which apple they are. Too bad that the apples who need to read it probably won't. Oh. I just did? OK.

Me too Hanny, but I so enjoy being a thorn in the side of the neophytes who act like they know more than the car owners, crew chiefs, and drivers about what took place on the track.

Actually, my first reaction to this was it belongs on the Oprah show as the topic of the day and not on a racing site but to each his or her own. Won't stop me from being harsh and critical of moronic and sophomoric analysis by some of the low intellect types who like to write blogs and comments to illustrate how stupid they are.

OK I think that about proves I'm one of the ones she hoped would read and benefit from her concise, well written, and meaningful effort to help us all get along. But what fun would that be. I'm not here to make friends (and have few if any) and I'll never be mature. I demand respect but believe others must earn mine ;-) and many don't.

What was her 4th word? I've forgotten already in spite of her eloquence and thoughtful comments.

Oh well, back to being a BAD, BAD, apple.

Sweetkena,
I don't know if your avatar pic is a recent portrait or not but if it is it may explain why you are single at 36. Actually it's an adorable pic and you are obviously an extremely intelligent person who writes very well. I hope my sense of humor hasn't offened you but I know I am and always will be a bit of a bad apple. I just can't help myself and klvalus is too expensive as a shrink.

H - you're more than right about those who need to think about it wont...lol

Hoosier - LMAO@still single at 36. That probably does explain a lot doesnt it? It's actually not even my cat..I just found it one day online somewhere and stole it...shhhhhhhh I know, I know. I think that slightly bad apples are actually pretty good, plus you've not started to smell yet from what I can tell so hey its all good.

Oh yeah and the Oprah thing...(I hate that bleeeeep...lol.) I've been thinking that the #### going on around here the last few days warrented at least a Jerry Springer episode if not Oprah. This one sorta just popped out. I'll try to stick to racing from now on. I promise....well maybe. ;)

Your Sweetness,
Now you're talking - a Jerry Springer episode with a few of the fanatical scarlett necked fans of Jr., Smoke, and Kyle - that would me MUST SEE TV for sure. But before I anger the last commenter on these pages who doesn't hate me yet, let me say Jr., Smoke, and Kyle all have many, many GREAT fans with just a few total losers sprinkled amongst 'em. Seriously, based on this blog, I'll look forward to reading more by you, espeically if you use your intellect and writing ability for RACING analysis. Now get busy.

BTW SK,
If you have really laughed your ####(butt) off that could be another reason for being single at 36. See some men like big butts and some men like tiny butts and some like them somewhere in between but I have yet to meet a man who wanted a woman without one. Are there transplants for your condition? For your sake, I hope so.
