The day is here. The day that all football geeks look forward to all year.

We all know that Michigan left tackle Jake Long is going first, but Miami is still going to take 10 minutes and why the hell not? It's a 10 minute advertisement for the team. The Jake Long pick is a solid pick for the 'Phins. They were a horrible team last year and need help all over the field, but getting a tackle like Jake Long, the kind of guy who can be a franchise kind of pass blocker on your quarterbacks blind side for 10 to 15 years, is a no brainer pick for a team without a clearcut left tackle. Since Bill Parcels as come to Miami, he's brought a lot of his favorite guys from Dallas. During the Parcels era, the Cowboys drafted extremely well and I look for that to continue here.

Rumors, they say "reports" but they are just rumors until the pick comes down, say that the Rams will take defensive end Chris Long out of Virgina, son of Hall or Famer DE Howie Long. I bring up Howie for one reason and one reason only: Because of him, Chris will not go through the culture shock that a lot of rookies go through when the get to the league. Chris grew up in the Raiders locker room alongside his father. As such, NO LOCKER ROOM will scare him. He's also got a tremendous motor, always works on every single play, and plays well against the run and the pass, which is key in this league.

The Rams could also go with defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey from LSU. Either one, Dorsey or Long, would be an amazing fit for the Rams defense that head coach Scott Linehan desperately needs to improve if he wants to keep his job. They also need offensive line depth because, as was evident last year, the line has trouble staying healthy. Look for them to pick up some big bodies in mid rounds to just help with depth.

9:41 a.m. : Ok, I want to touch on Jonathan Stewart for a second. People are talking about the toe surgery that he had recently and that teams can be a bit concerned about it. He played through the injury all of this past season and decided to get it taken care of while he still had time to. He will be ready for camp, and I honestly believe that the only back taken in the first that will be better then him will be Darren McFadden.

I know Mendenhal averaged 9.someodd yards a carry last year and looked pretty good against USC in a loss at the Rose Bowl. That said, Stewart's better. He's got better hands, better explosiveness, and has another dimension where he can impact a team as soon as he comes in with his skills as a kick returner.

Now, again, I must say that I am biased. I played against Stewart in high school where he would regularly put it up 300+ yards rushing. And he's only gotten better. He didn't catch much passes when he was in school, but going to Oregon forced him to do more of just that, and he flourished.

I see him going to the Texans, but wouldn't be surprised at all if they took the corner of the four that will go early. But Ahman Green isn't going to be around forever, Chris Brown can't stay on the field, and Matt Schaub could use some more help on the offensive side. If I were Houston, I go Stewart. That's just me.

9:59 a.m. : Ok, another rant.

I don't see the huge gap that seems to be there between Matt Ryan of Boston College and the other quarterbacks: Chad Henne of Michigan, Brian Brohm of Louisville, and Joe Flacco of Delaware. Ryan put up decent numbers, but so did the others.

Henne was a four year starter at Michigan. The Golden Boy, a.k.a. Mr. Overrated, couldn't even do that.

Brohm was a #1 overall pick this time last year, but because he had a "down year", his stock has fallen. He was learning a new system, so of course he won't be putting up the numbers that we've seen from him previously.

And I really like Flacco. He's big, 6'6 230lbs, so he's not going to be intimidated by opposing rushers and he'll be able see even the tallest of offensive lines. I really like his vision, his arm strength, and his overall toughness. He's got good legs, so if things break down, he's not afraid to run. I think the Ravens should look to trade up(Dallas, San Diego, or Seattle?) and get him near the end of the first round. They missed out on Derek Anderson, so they really should take a shot at getting Anderson 2.0, which is who Flacco reminds me a lot of. More to come.

11:50 a.m. : Ten minutes to go, and the crowd is getting whipped up. By crowd, I mean me and my cat. But also everyone at Radio City.

ESPN just brought up McFadden's character issues for the twentieth time today. Based on all the information that I have, I'm not worried at all. I'm more worried about his family, in particular his mother, then I am Darren.

The comments that came out recently show me that she really hasn't grasped the opportunity that her son has. He's probably going to Oakland, even though they don't need him, but I really like the fit with the Jets. Thomas Jones is good, but he is no McFadden.

12:03 p.m. : The Commish steps up to the mic and the crowd goes wild. He announces that the Dolphins have the pick and the crowd boos. Jake Long gets his jersey, size extra small it seems like, and again boos.

I still find it insane how many Jets fans show up to the draft every year. I swear that the are some of the most loyal, and insane, fans in the league. Rams are up. Let's see if they do go with Chris Long.

12:11 p.m. : Here comes Goodell. And the pick is Chris Long. Great fit for a defense that needs help pressuring the quarterback. I think that Chris is the safest pick in the entire draft and that he will be able to come in on day 1 and be not only a starter, a stud. Ok Atlanta, it's on you now.

12:22 p.m. : Matt Ryan is a Falcon and my internet is working again. Good pick for a team that has been starved for a QB since Mike Vick go to town, but that's a whole nother rant. Oakland and Crazy Al are up, which means Run DMC is probably going to be gone in a second. Keep tuned.

12:27 p.m. : The pick is in, and it is of course McFadden. Momma CANNOT be happy with this, nor Lane Kiffen.

I totally agree with Kiffen, the Raiders do not need this kid, but he will make them that much better.

Ok, here comes the Chiefs.

12:34 p.m. : Dorsey just got off the phone, the clock just stopped. Who's getting Glenn?

And it is the Chiefs! Good pick to help that defense that was a strong point last year. Watch out AFC West, here comes the kid from LSU. Jets fans are about to go crazy, they're on the clock.

12:37 p.m. : What did I tell you about Jets fans being crazy? They're chanting loud and proud for Vernon Gholston.

I like him, but not this high. The Jets need help off the edge with their 3-4 and Gholston will give it. If it weren't for the Patriots right behind them, which REALLY irritates me, I think they'd be able to trade down and still get him. He's probably going to be the pick here.

12:43 p.m. : Ok, heres the pick...AND IT IS GHOLSTON AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!

Good pick by the Jets. It'll really help the defense that has already been overhauled this offseason and it takes a guy that a rival(the Pats) really liked.

Speaking of the Patriots, it's laughable that a team that was found cheating is penalized a first round pick, but not the one that happens to fall in the top 10. Let's see where these cheating...words I don't want to use at this time because I would like to use this for a professional portfolio at some point. Let's see where they go.

12:51 p.m. : And the Pats trade the pick to the New Orleans, who pick up defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis to sure up that defensive front that was just pushed around for the most part. Trade details to come and the Ravens are up.

12:53 p.m. : Or not...Jacksonville trades up all the way up to #8. They may go for corner, I think they could use the help, or maybe Harvey out of Florida to help pressure off the edge. We'll see.

12:57 p.m. : Ok, the Patriots/Saints trade goes like this:

Pats go from 7th to 10th and get a 3rd rounder.

Saints moved to get Ellis at 7 and gets a 5th.

Now let's see what the Jags had to give up to move all the way up from 26. Good trade for the Ravens to trade down to get a shot at a QB, I'm still thinking Flacco.

1:01 p.m. : Jags get Derrick Harvey. Kiper calls it a reach, which I can see, but I like his game. He's a tad inconsistent, but I think he can do well against the right tackles, not so much the left.

ESPN just showed video of Keith Rivers on the phone and he's crew going crazy. With the Bengals, a linebacker starved team, Rivers is a great fit. Rivers can play on backer position and gets to the ball. It looks like Cincinnati is doing the right thing, getting an impact player at a postion of desperate need.

1:06 p.m : And there's Keith with the hat. Good fit.

Ravens got a HAUL for Derrick Harvey. Swapping 1st rounders, as well as getting 3 more picks, 2 of which in the 3rd. Good trade.

And Rivers is the pick. Pats on the clock.

1:12 p.m. : The pick is in. Looks like the Patriots are probably going to go corner.

And I am WAY off. Jerod Mayo, linebacker from Tennessee that, like Rivers, can play anywhere. Really helps the Patriots get younger at the oldest position on the entire team and the oldest starting linebacker core in the league. Here comes the Bills and this is where I'm afraid something really dumb is going to happen, with Buffalo reaching for Devin Thomas out Michigan State. I think they should go corner.

1:18 p.m. : Finally, someone listens to me! Leodis McKelvin is the pick. A great return man, a solid corner with good size, and a real need for the Bills. Aqib Talib is being talked about because people have taken him off boards because he smoked pot, but unlike Cal's WR Desean Jackson, he was totally upfront with it. Who ever get Talib is getting a player with the real possibility of becoming an elite, shutdown type of corner. Broncos are up.

1:23 p.m. : Broncos need some help on the offensive line, and they get it from Ryan Clady. Played well in a strong run team with Boise State and will be a solid tackle for Denver. It's be seen how he'll handle elite defensive ends, but I think he'll do just fine.

Now, with Harvey off the board, where is Carolina going?

1:27 p.m. : Carolina grabs Jonathan Stewart! Stewart is off the board! Carolina is getting a hell of a player, but I think this is more a pick that says that they don't think DeAngelo Williams is their guy. Look for him to be the back up to Stewart. Still a major surprise to me. Looks like I'm going to have to add some Carolina blue to my wardrobe!

1:35 p.m. : Bears got the pick in. For the sake of quarterbacks sake, I hope it's a Branden Albert or Chris Williams to protect the blind side.

And Williams is the pick. A great pick for the Bears. Allows them to move John Tait, 33 years old, from the left side to the right side. They've still got a few more issues, such as running back and receiver, to address before the weekend is through.

I now pray for any and all Lions fans, because they are on the clock.

1:41 p.m. : Branden Albert is still on the board. He's a very enticing prospect that a lot of teams are eager to jump at.

And now we have the Chiefs have moved up to this spot. And they take him. They've been high on this guy for weeks, maybe months.

No, here we go, I really like the pick. If he plays left tackle, which will more then likely be the spot they play him at, he will be a work in progress that has the potential, god I hate that word, to be a monster. Playing guard in school means that his footwork is solid and he always attacked the second level very well. That being said, this is also a huge risk because he only played tackle 2 games last year. Let's just see what happens next year. Cards are up and the Lions after that, swapping 1sts, 3rds, and pick up a 5th from Kansas City.

1:53 p.m. : Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is the pick for the Cardinals, and with Antrel Rolle moving to safety it's a good pick. He's a little weak against the run, but he's got good size, great speed, and hops that are insane. He'll pat a few passes, I'm sure. Ok Detroit, lets try this again.

1:58 p.m. : Gostor Cherilus goes to Detroit to try to solidify the right tackle position for the Lions after the loss of Damian Woody. Baltimore trades up to 18 with Houston, probably to get Joe Flacco.

And yes, it is Flacco. A great pick up for the Ravens, who have been in dire need of a quarterback since arriving in Baltimore. I know they had Steve McNair and won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer, but neither are the kind of QB Flacco can be. McNair was amazing, but he was in the twilight of his career when he got there.

Let's see if the Eagles get a wideout, look for Thomas to go to Philly.

2:09 p.m. : Or not...again. Carolina trades up to #19, looking for help at quarterback or tackle.

And they grab Jeff Otah, tackle out of Pitt, that will really help a team that needs a lot of help running the ball and protecting the quarterback, whoever that may be. Buccaneers are up. Hopefully getting trade details soon.

2:17 p.m. : The Eagles get a 2nd, a 4th, and a 1st next year from Carolina. That's a little steep, especially with the 1st next year for Otah. This looking more and more like a all or nothing year for John Fox with the Panthers.

Tampa is coming up with the pick. It's Aqib Talib. Wow...ok...I though they would've gone for a receiver, like Devin Thomas, but this really could work out very well the Bucs.

Son of a...they're bringing up the weed thing with Talib. I'm sorry, but this whole thing is just ridiculous. Yes, he tested positive three times, but he never shied away from the issue. Yet, his stock has still fallen kind of like Randy Moss when he came out. Will he have as big an impact, I'm not sure, but he'll be solid. Skins are up.

2:28 p.m. : Here comes the Falcons. They may be reaching a tad, but Sam Baker is the pick none the less. The tackle out of USC will probably going to be a right tackle for the Birds, but he probably would've been there when they came up in the 2nd. Dallas is up with their first of two 1st rounders. Look at Felix Jones or Mike Jenkins to go here. I don't think they'll go wideout because they're still hoping to get Roy Williams from Detroit, which won't happen.

2:38 p.m. : The 'Boys pick up the other kid out of Arkansas, Felix Jones. The Cowboys once again have that two headed monster that they had with Julius Jones and Marion Barber, and Felix is used to being in a two back system. Great pick. Let's see where the Steelers go...and Rashard Mendenhall is on the phone...this could be REALLY good for Pittsburgh fans.

2:44 p.m. : And is the pick. Great insurance pick for the Steelers. Now, if Willie Parker gets dinged up like he has in the past, they won't have to try to find someone off the street. Titans are up. Limas Sweed, receiver out of Texas, is the most logical pick. Vince Young and Sweed already know each other quite well, so there would be no acclimation process, but it looks like it's going to be Devin Thomas. Either way, big targets that will really help Vince out a lot. Please be Sweed.

2:50 p.m. : Roger Goodell walks to the podium, and the Titans pick ANOTHER fast combine running back. Horrible pick for this team. The Titans really need that receiver. They better look to trade up or hope that someone falls to them. Morons. Seattle's up.

2:57 p.m. : Wait...did I just hear right? Was that Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? in the background with the Seahawks on the clock? Really? Classy.

Dallas has traded up to #25 with Seattle sliding to 28, with more to come I can only presume. Dallas is still looking for corner.

It's Mike Jenkins out of South Florida. Really good pick up for the Boys. Let's see what my team gets, and what the Texans do now that they're on the clock again.

3:06 p.m. : Houston grabs Duane Brown, tackle from Virgina Tech. Descent pick up for the Texans who needs depth along the line.. Chargers are up, and it looks like they're ready to go with it. Only choice till the 5th round, so San Diego and A.J. Smith needs to hit this out of the park.

Antoine Cason is the pick. Seems a bit high, but he played in a pass heavy conference in the Pac-10. Hawks are back.

3:15 p.m. : Seattle has the pick in. They need some help at tight end or D-line. Keller?

Lawrence Jackson...wait...a defensive end? Really? What is wrong with the Hawks and Titans drafting guys that they don't really need? Only way this makes sense is if they try to move him inside and try to do what the Giants did last year. Wow...just dumb...I love my team, but seriously.

Niners have the pick in apparently. They need a lot of help, lets see where they go.

Kentwan Balmer, defensive tackle of North Carolina. Should be a solid player on that 3 man front for the San Francisco. Let's just see what happens, but I would've felt better with a wideout.

And here comes the Pack! This is just going fast. And now the Jets are there! I'm even going to try to guess where they go.

3:25 p.m. : Jets fans are going crazy for Devin Thomas, the Packers get the Jets 2nd and 4th rounders. People are talking about a QB. Please be a receiver...please...

And the Jets fans go...bleh. Dustin Keller is the pick. Keller will really help the Jets at the tight end spot, but is a little suspect blocking. Giants are up for the final pick of the 1st round. I really like Dan Connor of Penn State or Tyrell Johnson of Arkansas State here.

3:34 p.m. : The pick is in. Kenny Phillips, safety from Miami. Two interesting things. Roger Goodell loved saying "Super Bowl Champion New York Giants" and this pick keeps the streak of Miami players going in the 1st round.

Here comes round 2...Dolphins, you're up. Want some help outside at receiver?

3:38 p.m. : Phillip Merling is the pick. Sports hernia is the only reason why he's available at this point. Really good player that will be able to rush the passer and is strong against the wrong. Rams are up again. I'm saying it again...RECEIVER.

3:42 p.m. : Donnie Avery...Donnie Avery? Really? The wideout of Houston is good enough to be the first receiver off the board? Wow...this draft is full of questionable picks, at least as far as I'm concerned.

3:45 p.m. : Rams take Avery, the Redskins take Devin Thomas, and Kansas City grabs Brandon Flowers to help the secondary. Ok, so the Skins and Chiefs made solid picks, but with the Rams, Hawks. Titans, and the Lions making questionable picks, I'm wondering what else is going to happen.

I hate agree with Mel Kiper, but thus far, the Chiefs really have done amazingly well in the draft. Dorsey, Albert, and now Flowers are all players that any GM would kill to be able to draft, and the still have more picks to come.

3:51 p.m. : The Packers grab Jordy Nelson out of K-State. A good grab to add some depth and another weapon for Aaron Rodgers to throw to.

3:55 p.m. :  Falcons grab Curtis Lofton, inside backer from Oklahoma. And this is where I call it a day. Hopefully this is a good read for you guys. It's been fun, maybe I'll do it again next year. Wow...so much typing...
