Lessee...that projects into 'bout..oh...4000-4100 total 'til the end ofda season, give or take a few dingerz..or more thanna 20% drop since the peak steroid years. Pretty close to it just from last years declining totals. In other wordz....jussa 'bout right.
'Course...that might change significantly...assumin' Andruw Jones comes around...He oughtta have a cupla 3 peak years in 'im...donchya thank?...
And if Prince Fielder ever gits right ,(onna pace to hit 20 after slappin' 50 last year)...and you'd thank he hadda few 'taters left in 'im...woodencha?
Did you see I got called a racist who would probably end up a Republican Senator (and then he turned around and said I was the kind of nutcase who would get a gun and kill black athletes and compared me to the Virginia killer) because I want OJ Mayo held accountable along with the University and the Agent(s). LOL

And then there's the grandaddy of 'em all good ol' Barry Bonds. As of wno he's got some real 'xplainin' to do.
14 counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. Mighty fine isn't it ?
I cannot tell a lie....afterall all men are created equal. And we ought to be judged by our peers within the constraints of the legal system. And most certainly not in the court of public opinion.

I've gotten past the fact that 'roids screwed-up all the records...ticked me off at first but I came to the conclusion that there ain't a lot you can do about it and that regardless of the so-called "record books"...I know the real deal and so do most fans...
The thing is by the time I'm your age (LOL I'm sure he's going to love this point now. LOL) most the kids my age won't know or care. Records are for those following the game right now. I know about Babe Ruth but have more opinion about the candy bar than I do the player.
I honestly believe hard core fans will always care but those who fill the stands on a friday night date or a family day or gets their companies seats for the night really don't know or care. They just went to see a ball game.

When it comes to sports to an extent now as a fan, I'm still interested. But I also look to the business side of things to see how they fare. That's where a large part of my interests lie as that's my background in many respects. The whole economics , MBA thing comes into it a great deal.
That at the end of the day is what drives the engine of the business of sports. And without it the fans and the franchises wouldn't be able to coexist.

Yup...The bizness end of it iz whut Selig and Fehr looked at azwell...and ifya git right down to it..so did Bond's, Clemens, etal....Takin' a part uvva lotta folks youth away and leavin' a legacy in shambles meant zero to them...It's about the dollar...
Don't git me wrong...I ain't naive and I understand that...There's just sumpthin' troublin' about it...'Specially since I grew up withda Game...and the records meant sumpthin'..Baseball woulda survived w/o steroids...Greed iz whut killed the way I felt about it...
I'll still be a fan...It just won't matter as much..nbd, really..
Have you got the figures for the first 6 weeks of each of the seasons you're looking at? I see where the pundits are making an issue out of the lack of homers this year, but I think we need to compare taters to taters. One determining factor in home runs is the temperature the games are played at. The warmer the temp., the farther the ball flies. Also, I believe this to be true too, ball players perform at a higher level when the weather is warm to hot... Another weather consideration, I think a pitcher's curve ball works better in cold weather since it gets a better bite in the heavier air. Add all of these things together and it makes sense that seasonal projections on the home run total based on the first 6 weeks of the season will be skewered...
I'm thinkin' the best comparison will be had at the end of the year...
You have a valid point, Dwindy, and azza rule, the Pitchers are ahead of the hitters at this juncture..
I DO think the numbers will diminish, either way...The thing iz, in theory, by virtue of Fielders and Jones' decline, which are huge declines, we both know that this makes them suspect. Not to mention Barry Zito or one we know about, Gagne.
This is the first year after the "Mitch" and from what we know..they should decline...Individual stats will eventually bear the su####ions out...at the end of the year, I doubt that mebbe a couple of ballplayers will approach 50 HR's. And they'll be ballplayers that will be believable.
Having the numbers decline, IMHO, izza good thang...I'm gettin' up there...but that don't mean I don't enjoy "the long-ball" any less than "chicks" do...But, I gotta admit..Moderation is the norm..these days...Good thang I gotta legal PED hit it harder tho'...lol

Speaking of PED's, there was a program the other day that talked with and about the 41 year old Olympic swimmer that's attempting to make her fourth US Olympic team and she's swimming the best times of her life. The interviewer was taken through her diet and I couldn't believe it. She was almost totally eating these very specialized supplements. She had like five different dry mixes (looked like Country Time lemonade mix in several different colors) she adds to water and walla! dinner is served! None are illegal and she isn't working out as hard as when she was younger!
Well...ya gotta figger, withda price of beef and the costa gas, (to get the beef toda stores)goin' offda charts, that not only izzit "legal" perfomance enhancing, but cost-effective az well...
Like my take on MLB tho'...It don't taste near as good...
Short-cuts, my man...I take as many az I can...but I do 'em "legally" and cuz they're "necessary"...annif Bonds and Clemens took the same route "illegally"..it's cuz Selig and Fehr endorsed it...and made it "necessary"...
...Instant gratification fer all...Magic!
Good fer her tho'...The only way that anyone could appreciate whats out there NOW and in the future, is to have NOT had it backinda day...otherwise...it's jus' a birthright...

Don't be surprised if that particular individual should she make the Olympic team. Once in Beijing she'll definitely be tested randomly as well as regularly throughout the competitin. Less we forgot look at the travesty that took place in Athens in '04 ?
That's something that WADA and the various international committees have addressed but they'll never be totally be able to keep abreast of the advancements being made. Supplements , steroids and other artificial enhancements are so far ahead that it's become a race. This is the new approach in genetics and sports as a whole.
It'll be intriguing to see what'll happen not only in the track & field eventss but also events like weightlifting and cycling in particular.
That's when all the mayhem'll unfold.
