OK...like it or not, agree or disagree,"right" or "wrong" or fair or unfair..Da Stevo thinks it safe to say that Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens are the faces of the steroid issue...an issue that needs to be as forgotten about as much as possible...It's time for healing and the fact that any team would consider putting them on their roster is so laughable that it borders on hysterics.
All MLB needs is for someone like a drunk, alphabet-challenged, nonetheless, intelligent, when he's sober, guy like Tony Larussa proposing the employment of one Barry Bonds to strengthen a run for the pennant.
"One reason I would have loved to have had him as a teammate over the many years is his competitiveness, his talent and his work ethic," La Russa said. "This guy, that's some serious work that he does to get himself ready to compete."
Righhhttt...Tony.
I respect Larussa as a baseball man, regardless of his unfortunate run-in with the law, which could happen to anybody. But, the fact that I respect him, makes it worse that he would even propose that notion to anyone, is detrimental to any kind of healing that MLB might hope for. The last thing MLB needs is for someone with LaRussas' high-profile stature to endorse even the thought of bringing Bonds back.
Is it collusion?...Nope...it's just good business....and any team that hires either one of these guys becomes "one bad apple that spoils the whole bunch" . Howwzat fer prose?
Winning, at all cost, is a myth. When you compromise integrity in order to get an edge, you've won ...nothing...In the publics eyes...you lose...oh!....unless yer Bud Selig or Donald Fehr...or...jus' simply a public that closes their eyes to the truth and elects to pay for a shallow form of entertainment that disguises itself as the "real deal"...you know...kinda like Reality TV...which use ta be what sports wuz all about...
I heard a serious conversation on a sports talk show that said the Tigers might be interested in Bonds... I thought "How many DH's does one team need?"
I think we're going to hear rumors like this all year concerning Bonds. I believe Roger the rocket is gonna have to keep his rocket in his pocket!
LaRussa had Canseco and MaGuire in Oakland so he is accustomed to harboring meatheads. Now that he has made comments favoring Bonds, it definitely tarnishes his rep in my book more than a little drunkeness.
The Tigers Manager had Bonds in Pittsburgh, so I see him having a soft spot for the meathead. Still, it would be a bad move for baseball. Read my lips!! No more meatheads!
Dwindy...Yeah...with pitching bein' the weakest link on the Stro's..We'll be hearin' 'bout Clemens soon...but I don't see it happenin'..McClane ain't about to bring him back....He's done.
Thanx, guy.
It's extremely stupid for teams to not offer Bonds a contract. Baseball's attendance numbers disagree that it "needs to heal," and the Giants' attendance numbers disagree that Bonds would turn people away from the gates.
But beyond that, Bonds is still the best hitter in the game. How many people can you pencil in for a 1.000 OPS every season? The only ones I'd feel comfortable predicting a 1.000 OPS for are Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols, and Bonds is right there with them at age 43.
Is it collusion?...Nope...it's just good business
If, by "good business," you mean "bad business," then yes. Bonds adds about 7 wins by himself to whatever team he is on, and isn't as much a defensive liability as he is made out to be (Manny Ramirez is about 10 runs worse on defense, yet he is somehow worth having around).
Regarding Bonds' work ethic, what most of the ignorant masses don't realize is that you have to work harder if you use steroids. You can't just use steroids, sit on the couch, and get bigger and stronger. Steroids allow you to participate in strenuous activities for a longer period of time, so if you lift more and heavier weights, you will get results faster.
Tony LaRussa is absolutely right about Bonds, and it's a shame the collusion among the 30 MLB teams is over as petulant an issue as PED's. If you don't at least make an offer to Bonds, you are not doing your job in attempting to put together a World Series-caliber team.
Dwindy1 - How many DH's does one team need? Only one if it is Barry Bonds. You don't have to worry about finding a DH who can hit...proven in that area. You don't have to find one who can hit for power...proven in that area. You don't have to find one who can get on base for you...proven in that area. You don't have to find one who can drive in runs...proven in that area. See what I mean? The guy can play ball and the American League and DH is perfect for him.
So..you think he did steroids too...got that outta da way..
No, I never said that. There still is not any convincing evidence that he ever used.
Good job of gettin' the word "ethic" and "steroids" in the same sentence, btw
There's nothing unethical about using steroids. Is it unethical because a corrupt, bribed group of politicians deemed it so? I'll get my morals and ethics lessons somewhere else; not from politicians.
