The following notable players are either on
training camp tryouts with NHL teams or are on two-way contracts for this
season hoping to land spots with their respective teams.
Anaheim Ducks: Eric Boguniecki, Teemu Selanne.
Carolina Hurricanes: Jeff O’Neill, Dan Lacouture.
Chicago Blackhawks: Keith Carney.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Richard Matvichuk.
Dallas Stars: Nolan Pratt
Detroit Red Wings: Darren McCarty.
Florida Panthers: Jassen Cullimore.
New York Rangers: Petr Nedved (hat tip to Chip)
Minnesota Wild: Krys Kolanos.
Ottawa Senators: Luke Richardson
Philadelphia Flyers: Jim Dowd, Bryan Berard (hat tip to "midknt").
Some players like Selane are for sure to make the team. Didn't Shanny turn down a chance to go to the rangers camp too??? Other players who are on their respective teams could be on this list too. Just look at all the teams that have a surpluss of NHL caliber players on their rosters and good youth that could make the jump. Detroit has too many decent NHL players and are going to have to either demote or trade some of their players. The flames are also a unique situation, they are over the cap, but Nillson is going to be "loaned" to the KHL and either Warrener or Ericksson or both will be dealt or demoted and they can still have a pretty solid line up.
I take it that Salami doesn't make the Ducks if Schnider isn't moved.
Richardson is like what, 50? I like Luke, he is a physical specimen but I hate to see guys past their prime having to fight their way into a 7 spot. Carney, Matvicuk, Richardson, Nedved, I guess it really hits home that I'm getting old because I remember when they were the youth that most clubs built with or around.
1) If Jeff Friesen or Richardson makes the Sharks/Sens rosters it won't bode well for their chances. They were 'done' 5 years ago!
2) Can see O'Neil making the Hurricanes. Long shots would be Carney in Chicago, and Nedved in NY
The Petr Nedved tryout in NY reminds me of the Bobby Hull "comeback" when he joined the Rangers to play in a pre-season European tournament (the Dagens Nyheter Cup in 1981).
My impression is that Petr would REALLY like to play in those two NHL games scheduled for Prague, and if he'd be willing to sign for minimum wage, the Rangers could do far worse.
(Personally, I'd like to see Petr pick up another 18 NHL games so he can have an even 1,000, but that's just because I like round numbers...)
IF Richardson makes the Sens team, it'll be as a sparingly used 7th defenceman, so I don't think it ought to directly influence their chances... there's exactly a 0.1% chance of him making the top-6, and that minimal chance is based on 3 or 4 other guys going down with injuries
I think it was more of a courtesy invite, but he actually looked pretty good against the Rangers last night... of course it's one game, and a preseason one to boot... and he was probably made to look better by his partner Brendan Bell's atrocious play
Put Nedved back on the list of those looking for work. The Rangers just cut him loose today.
Additionally, Tom Renny shook up his lines some, moving Drury to the wing with Gomez and Naslund and having Dubinsky center Dawes and Zherdev. The New York Post also reports that Petr Prucha's roster spot is in serious danger (Pru makes 1.5 mil this year which is too much for a guy not in the top six) and that Brendan Shannahan has been working out at the Rangers' practice rink.
