Boston Bruins fans were hoping GM Peter Chiarelli would
bring in some scoring help via the UFA market this summer.
Chiarelli signed a scoring winger but not a big ticket one like
Marian Hossa, signing instead a forward who used to play for their arch-rival
sin Montreal.
The Bruins signed former Canadiens winger Michael Ryder to a
three-year, $12 million contract, paying him $4 million per season.
Seems a steep price to pay for a winger who managed only 14
goals and 31 points in limited ice time last season, but the affable
Newfoundlander is only one season removed from his second straight 30-goal
season, and if he can regain his scoring touch with the Bruins it could become
a worthwhile signing.
This move should also demonstrate once and for all that the
Bruins won’t be dumping the contract of aging veteran Glen Murray to free up
the cap space to get into the bidding war for Hossa.
A soft unidimensional player (poor passing skills, poor defense effort, poor playmaking vision)? What a slam dump from the Habs, and the Bruins competing against the Leafs for the worst signing of 2008... Umberger would have been a better fit for less money.
The Bruins better find some other Lucic to hep the fans #### that 4 millions dollars pill...
Montréal (and habs fan!)

good for ryder. this is a very smart signing for the bruins. ryder will score 18 powerplay goals off chara slapshots and savard goal mouth passes. along with his usual 10-12 at even strength, ryder will return to 30 goal form. his old coach will know exactly what to do.
I like this move better than the Rangers signing Redden. Not by much. But still so.
You know, last season the big names went very early. I seem to remember Gomez, Drury and Briere getting deals within an hour or two on opening day. Can't help but notice Sundin, Jagr and Hossa are still out there and really seemed like the big three this year. Granted Campbell seemed the biggest fish to catch this year, and Huet a close second (although nobody saw that coming, I bet). Those are some pretty big names left. Impact forwards indeed.
Couldn't agree with you more chaas! Although I believe Hossa will be signed by Thursday (12:00 AM, meaning at some point on Wednesday) it has to be somewhat surprising that Hossa, Sundin, Jagr and Redden have not been signed already.
Streit getting 4 mil? The Nutty Proffesor strikes again!!!
62 POINTS? Yeah!!! At least 20-25 of those were as a left winger! The whole point of contention in negotiations was that Streit wanted guarantees that he would play defense full-time, Gainey don't make guarantees!!
Before anyone disses Talon for signing Huet for 5 mil plus while still having the Bulin Wall meaning that Chicago has 12 mil on goalies alone, remember Kane and Teows will not cost much for 2 more years!
As for the Maple Laffs? 3.5 mil for Finger????? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Wait, this thread is about Ryder signing with the Bruins. 4 mil per? LO..... no! This would only be funny if Finger hadn't... hadn't......LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
