John Hadley of KTRS 550 Sports Radio is reporting on his website that the Philadephia Flyers could be trading Peter Forsberg within the next 24 hours to either San Jose or Colorado.
Hadley has a pretty good track record this year breaking trades and free agent signings so this could be worth watching.
No word yet on which players might be going the other way. I'll try to stay on top of this one and hopefully have more info for your folks soon.
**UPDATE** Philadelphia Inquirer hockey pundit Tim Panaccio reports tonight both Forsberg and Flyers GM Paul Holmgren deny the aforementioned rumor. Forsberg cited his no-trade clause and his unwillingness to leave Philadelphia, but admitted he might consider retirement if he's unable to get relief from recurring foot pain.
I find Forsberg to San Jose hard to believe, unless the Sharks plan to move Forsberg to the wing to feed the puck to Patrick Marleau like he sometimes did in Colorado with Joe Sakic.
There's absolutely no way the Sharks are going to give away Bernier, Michalek, Cheechoo or Carle in a deal for Forsberg's shakey skates.
The best the Flyers can hope for is to deal Calder to the Sharks in return for another ex-Blackhawk under-achiever... Mark Bell.
As for Colorado, they are stuggling like the Flyers, but they really have little to offer by way of comparable salaries in return... unless the Flyers want to take Theodore or Brisebois off their hands which is unlikely.
Like the Sharks' young stars, Wolski, Svatos and Liles aren't going anywhere.
hmm, I seem to remember rumors on the local sports station here in Edmonton of Flyers scouts being at the Saturday game vs Detroit... there's nothing the oilers have that Philly wants..

Wouldn't Forsberg to the Sharks include Toskala or Nabokov? I imagine Philly's gunning pretty hard for solid goaltending, even though Wilson in San Jose has stated his content with the Sharks current tandem.
As for the Avs, who would they give up besides Theodore (or along with Theodore)? A Forsberg trade doesn't seem to make any sense, even though he's a UFA (?) at the end of the season, and his contract is pretty hefty. Wouldn't it make more sense for Philly to trade him at the deadline and at least see return, rather than seeing nothing at the end of the season when decides not to stay in Philly?
Nabokov refuse to waive his non-trade clause to play with Pheonix ( West coast team ) and now he would be willing to play with a 2 years re building Philadelphia Flyers??? I don't think so.
you're all crazy! Why would Nabby waive his no trade clause to go from a stanley cup contender to Philly? doesn't make sense. Toskala would be more likely which (in my opinion) wouldn't be the greatest move for the sharks either. The Sharks have one of the best combined goaltending in the league, and as their record proves, some pretty darn good offense too. Forsberg would be cool, but with his injury history.... I don't know. Why mess with the chemistry that the Sharks have? The trade would be a gamble on the Sharks part. Doug wilson so far has been brilliant, so whatever he decides I will support I guess.
I'm torn on this one. I really don't think that San Jose wants to move one of their goalies yet, maybe next year before Nabokov's contract comes up. In Colorado however, every game I have watched Theodore has let one in on the 17 hole (under his glove arm) so I think that him being delt is a serious option. Though I really doubt that Colorado would choose to go it with only Peter Budaj.
This could be dynamite for my pool time if it causes Forsberg to light up, then again it could sap Gagne of some points....
Wilson would love to unload Nabokov contract. He's in a position of strength, right now, and he's not on a hurry. That said, Thornton is invisible and if things start to go down in SJ, Wilson will move. The stock is high for a #1 goaltender. It might good to consider to move one of their two keepers; especially when Schaeffer is waiting in the minor...
Lanstar is absolutely right. When I saw this yesterday, I immediately looked at both the Shark roster and at what Philly needs. The Sharks don't need another center, especially a high priced one. Wilson does not take chances like this, and he's not going to give up any of his talented kids for this. I don't know what Colorado has that Philly needs, as Theodore for Forsberg doesn't make sense. This trade just isn't going to happen like this!!!!
When I say this I'm not refering to anyone here(or John Hadley).
To be blunt... Philly sucks this season and they've obviously got some fans who aren't taking it very well. So they fantasize. They imagine the impossible and try to spread it around to get others beliving in the imossible so that it gets people on various websites and sports channels buzzing about it in hopes that it puts pressure on the general managers to do something.
The thing is that the General managers can't do anything. What would colorado do with Forsberg? They need a few defensemen, more reliable goaltending, and if anything from the forwards lines, something cheaper in terms of depth.
Let's look at San Jose. Nabakov has a no trade clause and the other guy(can't remember how to spell it sorry) hasn't proven himself yet. If they traded the other guy i dont think that san jose could absorb Forsberg's salary.. .and why would they want to? They've got great forwards. San Jose only needs guys on the rear. If Nabakov did wave his no trade clause you could see San Jose making the trade only if they were doing it to free up cap space for the next year.
Hockey fans are used to seeing more trades during the regular season and you're not going to see it as much as before because of the no salary cap.
As a fan for several years of the Teal, I can say with confidence that they are not going to make any major deals, unless its for an "elite" blue liner. San Jose doesn't make big deals (we are all still stunned they made the move for Big Joe) and with the talent they have been getting from the minors, one has to believe the missing piece is a top blue line player to help they get through the playoffs.
I think the only deal San Jose would look at is one for Sheldon Souray or maybe Chris Phillips. They have talent to fill the other roles.
