Uh what? I've heard this comparison many times on the radio but I don't remember going out hunting for a deer just to bash it's brains in for the hell of it or electricuting it to death or drowing it. No I'm pretty sure the last time I went deer hunting I stalked the deer for a couple of days, shot it, skinned it, quartered it, and then put it in the deep freeze so I could eat it. I don't recall in the Michael Vick case where they had said that they ate the dogs that lost.
The next great excuse: "It's part of hip hop culture." Okay there is cultural differences between people all over the world, but what is socially acceptable is something totally different. For instance, you can go to Thailand and pick up an underage prostitute, which in Thailand is culturally acceptable. So if a pedaphile comes to America and has sex with an underage child...check that...your underage child and says,"Hey it's part of my culture." What do you say? "Well it is part of your culture so I guess we'll let it slide." Just because people do it and it's part of a "culture" doesn't make it right. If this was socially acceptable where are all the black activist backing Michael Vick. I have yet to hear Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson come to the aid of Michael Vick and say that he is being wrongfully persecuted. My guess is that they find that type of behavior unacceptable as well and they are "cultural" leaders in the black community. (Or so they self proclaim)
Another thing that chaps my #### is when people pull the race card on this. "Well if it was a whiteboy doing this then there would be no press." Obviously the people that are making these statements have never seen the PETA billboards up against fishing. In Galveston, TX there was a billboard on the coast with a picture o####olden Retriever with a hook stuck through it's upper lip. I believe that the slogan underneath said something along the lines of you wouldn't do this to your pet why would you do it to a fish. Animal rights activist can care less for skin color they only care about the protection of animals and they would march outside anyone's door no matter what they looked like. I'm not a big PETA fan by any stretch of the imagination but I'm not a big fan of cruelty to domesticated animals either.
I don't think Michael Vick deserves to be in jail. I think he needs to do community service at the humane society for quite a long time and donate a boat load of money to the humane society and other animal shelters. You feel quite different about animals once you nurse them back to health. I know from personal experience. I've owned four dogs and before when they would pass away I'd say to myself, 'What the hell I can always get another one.' About a year ago I picked up a dog from the humane society who was very ill and nursed him back to health. I can honestly say that if anything happens to Chester I would definitly have a broken heart.
Even if you are not an animal lover you must have some sort of respect for life whether it's a dog, cat, etc. It is still a life that shouldn't be abused and tortured. Someone get me a ladder this soap box is way to high for me.
If Micheal Vick is guilty I hope he does prison time. I've seen the videos from the fights that occurred at his property and it broke my heart.
One or two dogfights? Ok, I can see community service. But he had over 60 dogs and this had reportedly been going on for years! That's grounds for time behind bars.
Time behind bars doesn't do to much other than give you a case of the red ####..hehehe. In all seriousness he needs to be hit where it hurts...no pun intended...and that is in his pocket book. He won't go to a Federal Prison and spend time in GP. He'll be in a white collar Martha Stuart prison because he is wealthy. Charles Barkley said it best when he said,"Rich people don't go to prison."
Excellent post SKS, couldn't agree more. I think the biggest hit to MV will be losing his career tho. Don't know if he will, but he could.
I also am tired of the lame assed excuses (there's murders that aren't prosecuted, only cuz he's black, it's only a dog for crisake, on and on ad-nauseum). I'm not of the "hang-em-high" ilk either, but I do feel he should be punished in a way suiting the crime, no special outs for celeb status. I also feel he's as much a danger to pro football as Pete Rose was to MLB (everyone seems to forget about the gambling). I know he isn't being accused of betting on the NFL, much less games he could influence, but when you get involved in ILLEGAL gambling it leaves you open for all sorts of compromising situations.
