If You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say...
Mar 14, 2007 | 3:14PM | report this

Have you ever been in one of those situations where it felt like everything you say is wrong. It happens to me quite often, especially with the old lady. You think you're saying the right thing,"No honey your #### doesn't look like it needs a mile marker on each cheek." I think Alex Rodriguez is in a perpetual state of that with the media and even Yankee fans. Yesterday he was interviewed by WFAN in a session that he felt like he was "standing at the plate with Bob Gibson on the mound." This is one of the quotes that really got me:

"I know I had a lot of options to go to several teams this offseason, probably five or six," Rodriguez said. "I chose to be in New York."

Okay so is that a threat. Another gem is this:

"It's a do-or-die situation," Rodriguez told WFAN's Mike Francesa and Chris Russo. "At some point, either New York is going to say, 'I've had enough of this guy, get him the [heck] out of here, and we have an option.'

"Or New York is going to say, 'Hey, we won a world championship, you had a big year, you're a part of it. We want you back.'"

Look man, I don't want you're apologies and I don't want your excuses. What I do want is for you not to commit an error every freakin' game. I want you to maybe make a clutch hit every now and then. But most of all, just shutup. I'd rather listen to Barry Bonds moan about how the man is after him then to listen to you talk about how you and Jeter aren't the best of friends anymore.  Or talk about how you have the option if you want to.

I don't think that Yankee A-Rod haters don't like A-Rod because he's not clutch. It's because he is a giant #### all the time. He needs to tell someone to #### off not 'well I'm doing my best guys.' He needs what the people at Chotchkies has, and that's flare. I'd rather a bad #### than a apologist. Drop your sack and be a man.

These quotes have been pulled off of Yankees.com writer Bryan Hoch's article.

I'm sorry but I'm sick of hearing this guy. To quote a classic,"I'd rather listen to Fran Drescher, I'd rather listen to Beautician and the Beast but if I hear Yamo Be There one more time I'm going to Yamo burn this place to the ground."

Hey Sofa, as a Yankees fan myself, I don't think the press did him any favors. They blew the slump out of proportion and it got in his head; it had to of. Hell, they had the fans against him early. If the press would let the guy play, things would calm down. He just needs to stay out of their game which is to make something out of nothing. Like I said in another post, it was a mistake in my opinion to pay that much for him to play third in the first place. I would have rather kept Sorianno. But, that being a long time ago, we gotta let him play.

It's great that the world is finally getting to see what a douchebag A-Rod (or should I say Pay-Rod) really is. The guy doesn't want to play in New York, and now he's going to manipulate the situation to make it seem that the fans and the media will be to blame for his eventual demise in the Bronx. No matter what he says or how often he screws up, in A-Rod's mind his shortcomings are never his own fault. The guy is just a loser.

I get GREAT pleasure in rooting against A-Rod. Sometimes I love being a Red Sox fan.

Well put. Actions speak louder than words.

At this point, A-Rod must realize that New York will never embrace him. This, in turn, should cause him to at least not want to make it any worse while he's still there. In other words, if you don't have anything nice to say...

Well, I didn't want the guy either, but here's there. I think the press screwed him early last year and you can't blame the guy for running off. I don't like him, but I still think he got the short end of the "press" stick.

Arod starts off with a smart #### looking face. That can torque the cheeks of a lots of people. Then to get that contract and choke in the playoffs adds to it and the piece de restiance is when he el foldo's a stretch drive? Gonna do what Alex? Hit .900 in spring training and .180 one of these years? I don't like him I admit. I like Jeter tho. And Ithink a lot of people are like me and Alex knows it.LOL

What's funny is you Yankees fans are going to have to put up with six months of his .340 batting average and 42 dingers all season long, wondering once again whether he'll be able to translate that into the post-season.

Bottom line is shutup and play. No need to talk or give excuses. I think he is a tremendous athlete with some serious psychological issues. Not Brian Giles type issues but some serious ones.

I think A-Rod is becoming one of the strangest stories in all of sports. He isn't the quiet "let my performance do the talking" type of player, yet he isn't a loudmouth jerk either. He just seems to be a very insecure & confused person.

He's still one of the best overall players in the game, and his skills put him in very elite company. Like you said, I wish he'd just shut up and play with a little fire, heart, & emotion.
