The Pits by Siddhartha

Let me clear my throat. I’m sorry, for a second I thought you said a $50,000 fine, 50 driver points, and 50 owner points penalized against the #17, and the #9. Why not throw the two crew chiefs out for 4 races too?

Oh, you did.

Wait; is this the same governing body that ruled over the #48’s penalty last year at this time? Where were you during the whole ‘bleeder valve’ controversy with the #29 and the #31 last year? Didn’t see you investigating the tape that Jimmie Johnson was taking off his car after he won the Brickyard. Didn’t see JJ and the #48 crew start their Championship run from the hole last year, when he was found with a 'questionable' back windowpane during qualifying for the Daytona 500.

Come to think about it, didn’t you guys keep the #48 car for the year after they won the Daytona 500? You didn’t find one damn thing in the past year? No loose lug nut, shaved rim, or longer fuel line?

Evernham and Roush got the book thrown at them. That same book that so few of us have ever even seen. Some may be quick to defend that the #48 didn't break any rules last year because there was no rule against it written at the time. How do we know? We have never seen the book! Show me the rule against the #17 and the #9. Was it the same 'unapproved aerodynamic modification?' Or was it the 'non conforming equipment?'

The rules of NASCAR are simple. There are no rules. Just guidelines. And NASCAR has the freedom to move those lines whenever they wish.

If you’re sleeping with a driver, they will come down on you. If you bad talk the new money coming into the league, you will be made an example of. If your Hendrick Motorsports, you still have a great chance at winning the Daytona 500, and the Cup.

I feel that cough coming on again.

Thanks for Reading Lust for Life

nice one sidd, i agree that hendricks is nascars pet team, and that roush is paying for being a little OVER the top about toyota. but i think Everham has a little explaining to do, with all 3 cars in trouble. plus i haven't heard him bash toyota or anything like that.

is it my imagination, or does Jack Rousch's continuing "ragging" and griping about Toyota's entry into NEXTEL Cup racing sound like he might be running a bit scared? I really haven't heard the "Oh My God, Toyota is going to spend SO much money..." comments from other large team owners or have I missed something? Could it be that Jack Rousch is scared that his 5 or 6 car team "monopoly" on the sport might be in danger of collapsing or at least one of his cars being beat by someone besides another Ford? Another thing-doesn't Ford have the same kind of funding for racing R&D that Toyota does? My suggestion to Mr Rousch is to do exactly like other multi-car teams are doing. Go back, do your homework and come back when you can play like a big boy. After awhile, people tend to get tired of hearing nothing but griping and complaining. The bad thing to me is that Mr Rousch's comments not only make him look like a cry baby, but in spite of fan loyalty to their favorite drivers, they might get the idea that their driver's car owner's attitude could leak over to their driver. Granted, I am a Tony Stewart fan, however, I would tend to watch Tony's comments closer if Joe Gibbs or Tony Zippidelli continually griped and complained. Hey, it's a big wide world and a wide race track-there ought to be room enough for everybody to play who wants to.

Siddhartha ..... Pardon me for saying this but NASCAR dug themselves this hole. And they aren't going to dig or get themselves out of it anytime soon. They've not laid down any laws written in black and white.
So how in hell are the drivers , crew chiefs and teams to know what's allowable and what's not ?
I was under the impression that this was a professionally run organisation ?
So far it's not looking that way as they're making themselves look like complete idiots !
It's one thing to have rules but it's another thing to make them up as you go along. Whose edict was this ? Jim Helton's or the France family's ?

Got two new posts up and running if you're either a football or golfing fan ?
1) Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number.....deals with Norm Chow and how it is that none of the NFL teams haven't so much as approached him with regard to any of their coaching vacancies.

2)Lefty Will Always Be Lefty, Let Fly And Hang Right........deals with Phil Mickelson and the fact that he's now back on the PGA Tour.
And as he says, he's prepared to take the fight to Tiger in order to challenge his supremacy at the top of the golfing world.
If you're interested have a read of both and let me know what you think ?

Storjrc - I understand what your saying. I just think it is somewhat tradition to bend the rules for the Daytona 500. But this is getting crazy. I have neer seen anything like it.

Travinphil - I think you summed it up pretty damn good. I think Roush needs to stop complaining so much. It is a done deal. He needs to get back working to bring his team to compete with the top teams. As far as I am concerned, Kenseth is the only one running to the standard. RR has some work to do, and it has nothing to do with his mouth.

Really great comment! You really hit it on the head.

Tophatal - I have missed ya. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I agree. I think they are looking dumb right now. The season hasn't even started and they are getting out of control.

I can't help but think they are trying to hard to get into the headlines. Maybe it's a marketing thing. To bring attention to the Daytona 500.

I think it's a mistake, and they are damaging the brand. Everyone knows they are marketing kings, but this is way out of line.

Let's get to the race and see where it goes from there.

It's going to take someone cheating to knock off the #20 this weekend. Either that or just bad luck. Anyway, Tony looks Dale Sr.-esqe with as dominant as he's been this week. It makes me nervous as a #20 fan. Let's go Tony!

Sidd ..... It didn't or hasn't helped one bit with the Earnhardt situation either ! What's the saying ? ' A House Divided Is Not A House Worth Fighting For, Over Or Living In ' ?
This all portends to the season ahead.
Certainly I also believe that NASCAR was unwise not to have suspended Michael Waltrip for his team's misdeed. How the hell can you be an owner under those circumstances and not realise what an employee of yours was doing to your vehicle ? From what I understand he's claiming that someone was out to get him ? Perhaps someone ought to tell him that the days of the boogeyman are long gone !
I'm hoping that JJ can take it up a notch and repeat as champion.
But it's not liable to happen as it's been said that it's very hard to repeat as champion at Daytona. I don't know how true that is but let's hope he gives it a real hard try !

Xea76 - I think your right about the #20 this weekend. He looks like he has had a pretty tight setup from the get go. I think it is his time to shine for the 500.

tophatal - I can't believe that Junior has not gotten this contract done yet before the season. It is going to make it tough for him.

Walnuts plays dumb. Too well.

I think JJ has a chance, he looks strong. But I thin it is Smokes race. He was solid at the end of last year. He won the Chilli Bowl in the offseason. And he won the Bud Shootout. Plus a duel. He is fast right. Faster then anyone.

Sidd., ... Although Harvick won the race one can't but help feel sorry for Mark Martin. As he came so close to winning the big one once again. Only to fail so close to the finishing line ! Providence wasn't on the cards for him yesterday !
