Tonight's game between #### (excuse my selective dyslexia) and Oregon State will be closer than 'the experts' or cocky SoCal-ers may think. Consider the last two games in Corvalis:
In 2004, the Beavers also started 1-2, and entered the game against USC with 4 losses. The final was a 28-20 win by SC, but the Beavers jumped out to an early 13-0 lead and hung tough until about 7 minutes left in the game.
In 2006, the Beavers entered the game with 3 losses. The Beavers forced 4 turnovers, and led by as many as 23, though SC stormed back and had the chance to tie it on a 2-pt conversion. The final score was 33-31.
Last I heard, the line for this game was SC by 24....not a chance. This game will be close, and the Beavers may very well have a chance to pull of a monumental upset yet again. In order for them to pull it off, there are a few things that have to happen:
1-Win the turnover battle. They cannot settle for even, as the 2004 game (which featured an SC team that is comparable to this year's version)--in that game both teams turned it over 3 times. In 2006, the Beavers forced 4 turnovers, and did not return the favor--that was the difference in that game.
2-Take an early lead. One thing both of the aforementioned contests had in common was that the Beavers looked impressive early, and forced the Trojans to play catch-up. This does a couple of things...it takes away the dimension of the run game since they will have to throw a lot more, especially if they take a two-score lead early. It also gets the crowd into it, and the Beavers have a great home-crowd.
3-Keep everything in front of them on defense. You know the cliches..."bend but don't break" and "You can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them." That should be the attitude of the defensive coaching staff. Force them to throw WR screens and make the tackles. Do not leave your corners on an island with any of SC's receivers. Play the deep ball and tackle.
4-Pressure the QB. Credit has to be given to the SC O-Line, Sanchez has been able to skate by without much contact. It is yet to be seen if he can maintain his composure when he'#### in the mouth a couple of times. I say blitz early, especially with a lead. Take a chance to lay a good hit on him, then mess with his head the rest of the night.
5-Just don't be intimidated. Ohio State looked downright cowardly against SC. In fact there aren't many Pac-10 teams that show that swagger that the Trojans show. Get right in their faces, don't back down, hit them with ill-intentions, and watch the shock in their eyes.
Overall, I think SC will probably pull it out with a late touchdown or two, but the game will be a good one. Still, I am gonna go out on a limb here and say Oregon State wins 38-34 with a late game-winning drive bid ended on an INT by Sanchez.
34 points for the Beavs?, you're an optimist if not overzealous.
Every team gets up to play SC, especially Pac-10 teams. There are no gimmes for us.
They may not run the table, they may not beat the spread, but they will beat up that Beaver.
It's how we do it out West...Ying Yang style.
What can I say, I guess once I see a Beaver, I lose all rationale. I mean you have to admit, all this talk about Trojans and Beavers is a little...risque. Let's hope these Beavers don't make your boys develop another rash!
as a u of o duck fan i am rooting for the beavers!!!! but all this talk about upsets... and on paper we should do this and that.... lets play the game first cant win anything until you play...
Well kelly, game-planning is a key to winning. Man for man, SC is head and shoulders above OSU, BUT anyone can be beat by a good game plan. That is why we talk about it.
SRMgenius
The real thing here is the intimidation factor. The Trojans tend to be a well oiled machine. But the obvious way to throw them off their game is not be intimidated and as you say not back down. However I don't believe that Oregon'll be able to deal with them on all fronts.
They'll pull out the win as expected !
As we saw when they handed the Buckeyes that proverbial beatdown. The physicalities just wasn't there from Tressel's team. If anything they were ponderous and far too slow.
I opined as such as to the merits of the Buckeyes after they faced the Trojans. See the two pieces for which I've provided you a link. Just click on the text to view.
Sad thing is there was absolutely zero sarcasm. I never went back, but now that you have told me she deleted it she is now my mortal enemy. Man, I'm running out of room on that list. Any takers for the waiting list?
I apologized for me, and my own personal, spiritual battle. It took alot for me to apologize to someone who definitely does not merit or value one for that matter. I am not a grudge holder. You can as NBA is the worst, I sent him a private apology, hell I even made amends with ROOSTER! You see, unlike some people I recognize the err in my ways...I look in the mirror, and anything I don't like I address it. If she wants to hold on to petty grudges with a ####-ton of people, that's her own burden to bear.
Bleed, part of what I like is that you are actually one of the VERY few who I can RESPECTFULLY disagree with, and I am pretty certain we have never disrespected each other. That is really the only thing I care about. My dad always told me, it's easy to be nice and friendly to people who see through similar eyes as your own, the challenge is living in harmony with those who's views are the antithesis of yours. So true.
College football always lends itself to upsets, and Oregon State should be able to give USC fits if the Trojans are too cocky. I'll join you on that limb; O-State by 4. And great analysis to back it up, as expected.
Oh yea, it got taken down. "#### THE POLICE, #### THE POLICE, #### 'EM!"
I don't care, I wont stop evangelizing the college football boards, lol. She better HOPE SC does not lose tonight. I will post a gloat blog five times in the College FB section LOL! jk. But you better believe they will hear it. Just like all you Buckeyes fans had to hear those pompous ####s. I will avenge you!!!!
It's cuz the word '####' was in it, even though '#### envy' is a legitimate, non-taboo term. It's all good though, it only reflects poorly on them, I was just playing antagonist like they always do, and I thought it was a clever analogy...oh well.
Points for "us" remember bleed you are not a player just a fan...you aren't one of them. Thanks SRM for giving the Beavs their due. Personally I think ESPN made a mistake scheduling this on prime time, because this has all of the earmarkings of a stinker! Still, upsets do happen and there is no love lost between these programs, so anything is possible. Probable or likely? USC 56 - OSU 13
SRM - No matter what you do, if you anger LisaH she will have you gagged. End of Story. You can't call her out specifically in an article - she won't have it. I don't make the rules, I don't like the rules, but this is what we have in front of us. The best thing you can do is point out on HER articles when she is inaccurate or incorrect. She will ignore and not respond, but at least you get your points published. This is not a story with a happy ending unless you keep it civil with her.
While it is true I am not a player, I am one of them. The school is the University of Southern California. I am a So Cal native and have rooted for them since I was hatched, so there is a sense of "us" however misplaced it may seem to you.
...whatever, minor details, but I get what you're saying.
I saw that your post from yesterday was deleted. ANd now ole double talk from da wacked out coast has a blog and is saying she was NOT biased in her selection of the coaches by conference. She is so full of herself as are the pets of her lil clique! And yes FOX will protect their writers no matter how biased they are, and Fox will continue to let such a homer of all homers to use Fox forums to take out her vendetta on those who have ired her!!!!!!!!!! If she really believes da #### she is spouting in her recent blog about not being biased she is truly delusional!!!! I agree with ya about (####) of da Pacifier 10.

Thanks my idea is that luck will not be enough, and we're not BYU or Notre Dame so divine intervention is out of the question. My thing is simple, don't embarass me!
Well, if it ends closer than expected does USC drop to #2? It's an honest question. Several teams so far have dropped in the polls just based on the fact that they had lackluster wins. I am curious to see how the polls turn out Sunday afternoon if USC only wins by 3. Meh, who am I kidding. It won't happen.

Not to swift at this sort of thing but if thats not whining in an under handed way, then what is?
Bleed- I like that you use the term "us". I say "we" all the time when refering to my favorite sports team. Sure, I am not a player but who gets ridiculed and made fun of when my teams lose? Me, so if I am going to have to partake in the misery of being a fan or the joy of it, I in this capacity am part of the team. So keep saying "us" and "we" when you talk about your favorite sports teams because I sure the #### will.
I am not embarassed, no matter the outcome. The Beavers have PC's number. I would have never thunk they could stay with USC and be leading by 21 at halftime....WHO WOULDA? Okay you PAC 10 Bashers, bash USC now but good praise for the BEAVs. If they win, they might be the only team with 2 wins vs them in this decade!
another ones bites da dust , another ones gone, another ones gone, another one bites da dust!!!! WTG Beavers!!!! 186 yards, most up da middle by a small runningback with a BIG heart!!!! Fright on USC!!! Fright on!!!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!! Can we all say a pretender posing as a contender!!!!!!!
BleedPRPL&GLD, I'm sorry your team lost, you were the one likeable USC fan on here that I've seen.
I'm not sorry at ALL for Lisa Horne. She is a perfect example of what happens to a fan that spends more time hating on other teams than rooting for her own.
Karma can be a real b*tch sometime, can't it?
Edot: Forgot to offer my sincere congratulations to all the Beavers fans on an excellent win. That was a magnificent gameplan and execution of same by your football team, and they deserve the nation's respect for it!
Go Beavers!

BeaverNut,
Conrats to you as a fan and to your team the one OSU that wasn't intimidated by this overrated team.
Bleed,
Sorry that your boyz lost but somebody had to. You are well respected by me and many other fans of other teams.
The supposed best D in CFB got outdone by a fiesty D of a school who has no shot at any bowl but hey they beat the oh so mighty Trojans...again! If I was a Beaver fan that would make my year!
O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
They should be ranked no higher than 15 now, but in my honest opinion they should just drop out of the rankings period!
SRM,
Good call on this game being close.

wilson
why don't ya make a clip of the dirty plays by USC;s defense unlike the one ya did of LSU, you won't need several games spread over couple of years to make the clip, just this 1 game!
And I do not dislike USC, just all of ole double talk from da wacked out coast lil clique!
Ya sure were talking trash and if the best ya can do is lay da blame for having a prob with SEC fans on my door I can take it. Just take ya drive by comments and ya watered down flavor of a kool-aid and sulk elswhere!!! IF ya can't stand da heat watch what YOU POST from now on, cause i will respond in kind! Ya use to be one of the few USC fans i enjoyed bantering with ! But the color of ya kool-aid is bleeding thru!!!!!!!!!
Wilson, any negative posts against USC are less about how people feel about the Trojans and more about how people have grown to hate Lisa's rampant and unchecked anti-SEC homerism.
Heck, I'd say it's 100% anti-Lisa if you want my honest opinion.
The difference beween what cajunsmiles and others like her post and what Lisa posts is LISA IS SUPPOSED TO BE A COMPETANT PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST! AND SHE ACTS LIKE A TWELVE YEAR OLD INSTEAD!

Way to "go out on a limb" and correctly predict the upset!
Clearly there's something about Corvalis that doesn't agree with the inhabitants of the LA central campus!
2nd big upset this week you've called (for those who missed it he also predicted Dolphins over Pats), and those Vegas oddsmakers are usually not THAT far off! Classic case of one team believing they can't lose, and another team believing that just maybe they can win if they play hard!
Nostradomus was telling people to bet the Trojans and give up the points!
He, AlexRogaine, and Norcalfella have been schooled!
Way Cool, baby!

One thing for sure is College Football brings the best and worst out of everyone. What is usually called hate is just competitive talking. Since we bloggers don't play, we play with our words. I suppose a lot of people will be upset by USC's loss, or happy as can be with Oregon States big win. Was it really a big win. Seems they've had USC's number for a few years now.
I do love College Football. This is what it's all about.
