The Morning V.I.P - New Radio Show On Fox Sports!
Jun 28, 2008 | 8:01PM | report this

Hey all,
Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. A lot has come up and I strayed away from the blogging world. But hey, great news on my end, and hopefully for you all. The college radio show I was working on for a while was picked up on Fox Sports Kentucky! We do the Saturday morning sports show and we have taken off big. We have already scored interviews with Mario Andretti and a few others. We are different than other sports shows. We are a comedy sports show. We like to be very edgy and have fun. Our fans have begun calling us Sports Shock Radio. We like to have a lot of comedians on. We've had Rich Vos and The Amazing Jonathan. Charlie Murphy is coming on next week. Wendi McLendon-Covey (from Reno 911) the week after. And list continues. We even had Jack Hanna on. You can listen live online through our website. We also have posted a lot of our celebrity interviews on our site. So go check it out.

I won't be a stranger. Just had to let everything cool down for a while and clear up so free time. As always, go Bucks! Now I am off to bask in the glory of Andy Pettite and pray for another win streak for the Bronx Bombers. Enjoy. Comment. Live. Laugh.

Reggie Miller Update
Aug 15, 2007 | 10:49AM | report this

I just got back from a four day trip to Indianapolis and I found some good information on Reggie Miller's possible return to the NBA. First in the Indianapolis Star, the Indiana Pacers CEO, Donnie Walsh, and Larry Bird both said that they had heard the rumor of the possible return of Reggie. They noted that they still stay in close contacts with Reggie and feel that Reggie would have atleast told them if he was even thinking of returning. Larry Bird said they talk regularly but he has never mentioned anything about it, so he doesn't believe Reggie will leave his deal with TNT.

As for how the people of Indiana would feel about his return, it was actually a different response then I expected. I talked to a lot of people and they all said that if Reggie wanted to return, they'd respect that and cheer for him no matter what team he was in.

"Boom, Baby!" Miller Time Again?
Aug 09, 2007 | 11:49AM | report this

Anyone who has watched a Indiana Pacers' home game or listened to one on the radio has heard the infamous sports words:

"Boom, baby! Boom - Boom - Boom - Boom - Boom!"

For those who don't know that phrase or argue that they hear at any NBA game now - just know it started with Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers. Right now, it is being reported that the Boston Celtics are approaching Reggie Miller about coming out of retirement and backing up Ray Allen for a championship run. From what I hear in the rumor mill, it's going to happen. I, personally, see this from several different angles:

1.) Being born and raised in Indianapolis and seeing the effect Reggie Miller had the Indiana community,  the fact he was drafted by the Pacers and remained with them his entire career (something rare in any sport),  and the fact the Pacers retired his jersey last season, I would not like to see Reggie Miller back on the court.

2.) Reggie Miller is a great personality to have in sports broadcasting. He is not only good at what he does on the court, but give some practice and a few years - he will be a wonderful play-by-play/color commentator. Since my field of education is sports broadcasting, he gives me someone to look up to and learn from. From that angle, I would not to see Reggie Miller back on the court.

3.) The man is 42 years-old. No one really questions the fact that he can still move and is in enough shape to get back on the court. If he decides to return, he will probably not be the same Reggie Miller we all remember. Being 42, his muscles are probably weaker. All it takes is one bad step and your injured and out for the season, making the return a fluke. From that angle, I would not like to see Reggie Miller back on the court.

4.) Being able to witness, first hand, the excitment and energy Reggie brings to the game, I would like to see him return to the court.

5.) He is a positive influence. Not just to me, but to young children, teenagers, and struggling basketball players everywhere. He has never been in trouble and could be just what the NBA needs right now. From that angle, I would like to see him return.

I'm going to be venturing up to Indianapolis this weekend to see family, so I hope to hear more about what the people of Indiana are feeling about the subject. The Indy Star always has a good take on issues like this, and Reggie still does interviews with them on a weekly basis, so I'll hopefully get more of an inside scoop. In the mean time, how does everyone else feel about the return of Reggie? If you are from Indianapolis or have been a Pacers fan - clarify and then give your point of view.

The Most Exciting Play In Sports
Aug 04, 2007 | 10:26AM | report this

Hey everyone, this is just a quick question and answer blog. I'm working on some topics for an online sports radio show and one question I came across really stuck out. I've heard several different answers for this and I just want to get more opinions.

What Is The Most Exciting Play In Sports?

I've asked probably ten people and the three most popular answers are:
1.) The Onside Kick (Football)
2.) Last Second Shot (Basktbal)
3.) Last Lap (NASCAR)

Please leave some feedback and let me know what you think the most exciting play in sports is. I'll let you guys know if I read your post and I will also credit you, which will hopefully bring some publicitiy to your blogging. I appreciate it.

(As I was writing this my StatTracker came up and said A-Rod hit number 500, so congrats to him!)

Best Sports Records
Aug 03, 2007 | 4:12PM | report this

I was watching every sports channel's all-day talk about Barry Bonds and the home run record and I got to thinking about some of the other great sports records. I decided to rank in what my opinion is a list of the best sports records of all time.

10.) Rocky Marciano's 49-0 - Rocky began his professional career in 1947 and over the next eight years never lost a match. He became the first and only boxer to go undefeated over his entire career. That record was almost beaten in 1985 by Larry Holmes who made it to 48-0. I have this as my number ten because I think it can and probably will be broken sometime in the near future.

9.) Seven No-Hitters - Nolan Ryan played from 1966-1993. During that time, he recorded seven no hitters, two of those coming when he was 41 and 43 years old. Sandy Koufax is in second place with four no hitters.

8.) .366 Batting Average - In 24 seasons, the Georgia Peach, Ty Cobb, never hit below a .316. He even hit over .400 in three different seasons. In second place, Rogers Hornsby holds a .358 average. The closest active player right now is Todd Helton with a .333 average.

7.) 88 Straight Coaching Wins - Between 1971 and 1974, the only team to beat John Wooden's UCLA Bruins was Notre Dame. Lead by Bill Walton and the Wizard of Westwood, John Wooden was able to get 88 straight wins. To understand how much of an accomplishment this is, look at the stat that no team has even gone undefeated in a single NCAA basketball season in 21 years.

6.) 215 Point Season - With some great young hockey players rising in the NHL today, I believe there is a small chance that Wayne Gretzky's 215 single-season point record can be broken...but probably never will. Scoring outbursts just don't happen.

5.) Consecutive Games Played - Cal Ripken's 2,632 consecutive games played is one of the most notable records in sports today. Lou Gehrig's "Iron Man" record of 2,130 games was widely regarded as "unbreakable," but Ripken not only passed it on September 6, 1995, he also added an extra 500 straight games before he finally decided to take the pressure off and end the streak.

4.) NFL Receiving Yards - This record, in my opinion, could be broken - but not anytime soon. Jerry Rice had 22, 985 receiving yards throughout his career. I'll give an example of what it would take for Randy Moss to break the record. Randy Moss would have to average 1,400 yards for the next eight years - even with Tom Brady throwing to him now, that is very unlikely to happen.

3.) Home Run Record - I think we all can agree (for the most part) that this is the most exciting, debatable, and accomplishable record in sports. Sure, as of recent, we are all tired of hearing about it, and everyone, including those who believe he cheated, want Bonds to break it so we don't have to hear about it. In my opinion, breaking the record is an accomplishment whether or not you use steriods or not. But Hank Aaron will always be the best player to play the game

2.) NBA Single Game Scoring Record - This one is debatable, but being a basketball fan I think it has to be up here. For those who don't know what the record is, Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a single game on March 2, 1962. Kobe Bryant has given the record a run for it's money, but still came up over ten points shy. Another reason I have this up here is because this record has been held longer than the home run record.

1.) All-Time Career Pitching Wins - In my opinion, if there is ever a record that won't be broken it is this one. Cy Young ended his career with 511 career wins. For a pitcher, that is unheard of! He is 96 wins of the second place win holder, Walter Johnson.

I want to hear your feedback on if you agree, disagree, and what records you would rank. I did a little research on this and listed my sources below, so if some of this looks copy and pasted, it's because I did copy and paste a few interesting facts I didn't strike me right away. I figured this would be an appropriate time to talk about sport's records, seeing as we are patiently waiting on Barry Bonds to take care of business so we don't have to hear about it much more.
