Fallout: Peterson tears knee ligament
Nov 12, 2007 | 11:35AM | report this

Minnesota rookie star running back Adrian Peterson tore a lateral knee ligament and is out Sunday.

Backup Chester Taylor becomes a strong start against Oakland's fourth-worst ranked run defense. Taylor showed he was capable of being a featured back when he ran for 1,216 yards and six scores with Minnesota last season, averaging a respectable 4.0 yards per carry. He also demonstrated he's a proficient receiver, catching 42 passes for 288 yards last year.

The Raiders have yielded noteworthy fantasy games to the following running backs:

Week 1: Detroit's Tatum Bell totaled 93 yards and a score

Week 2: Denver's Travis Henry totaled 136 yards

Week 4: Miami's Ronnie Brown totaled 207 yards and a score

Week 6: San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson totaled 214 yards and four scores

Week 7: Kansas City's Larry Johnson totaled 133 yards and one score

Week 8: Tennessee's Lendale White totaled 141 yards

Week 9: Houston's Ron Dayne totaled 122 yards and one score

Week 10: Chicago's Cedric Benson totaled 97 yards and one score

Expect Taylor to total at least 100 yards and a score. Unfortunately, Peterson would have had another chance to wreak havoc on a defense if he was healthy, especially against Oakland's struggling run defense.

Roy - keep him on the roster. good chance he's back in three - four weeks and he'll be fired up.

I am familiar with this injury. My son tore his LCL playing basketball. It took him 2 months before he could run pain free. This is a slow healing ligament. Maybe AP will heal faster and maybe he has a higher pain threshold, but I would not expect to see him back at 100% this season.

from what it sounds like, peterson is for sure out for next weeks game but they don't think it will be for anymore then 3 or 4 games. best case is he comes back after the oakland game.

Unfortunately I didn't handcuff Taylor. I have Addai and Selvin Young and an offer on the table of Bush for Peterson. It may seem like an easy trade to make, but my league isn't head to head, but rather aggregate score. I'm not even sure I would start Bush over Young after yesterday. What shall I do?

Let him rest that knee as long as it takes, terrible thing to bring him back too soon and destroy a great back. Chester can hold the Fort down.

stretch34 - I wouldn't make the trade in the event that Peterson heals in 3-4 weeks. Even if he comes back at the end of the season, he could still have a couple huge games, which could tip the scales in a league that is not head-to-head. I have Bush in one of my leagues and his performance has been mediocre at best. The name sounds appealing, but your instinct to bench Peterson and play your Addai/Young combo is a good one.

I also have peterson on my bench the cream of my running back corps...im saving him for playoffs in my fantasy league but i just picked up chester taylor also when i heard peterson went down he should be back by the season but i wouldn't doubt it if they decide not too...either way its a smart thing to keep him in your lineup if you have the extra spot

Roger this article sucks. WOW!! A.Peterson's hurt and Roger recommends pickin up C.Taylor. Who would've thunk?! And..now someone's so impressed with the guru, he's gonna ask Roger should he actually drop A.P.? another has already offered A.P. for R.Bush (who has a headache)? Roger's Remedial Fantasy course for losers.

Roger, I appreciate all of your research and work you put in on this one. No doubt, you put in alot of O.T. However, in my league C.Taylor hasn't been avail all season (14 deep). How bout u try to go a little deeper next time? Everyone doesn't play in 10-team leagues. Or, if the answer is so obvious, just don't write anything next time.

Who would u start if S.Alexander got hurt? M.Morris (brilliant!!)

I have to agree...C.Taylor was drafted around the sixth or seventh round. I will keep A.P....but even if he does recover in time, Minnesota is not likely to risk his getting hurt at the end of a dismal season. I expect he will be reduced to 8-10 carries should he even return.

Peterson's nickname is not AP as so many of you think. It has nothing to do with his name. His nickname is AD because he can run All Day. Quit calling him AP makes you sound retarded. I'm looking to trade for AD in the league I don't own him. He will be back in 2 to 3 weeks.

A.P. is not used as a nickname...it is an abbreviation....not sure who sounds "retarded" here. Why not make comments germaine to the discussion?

No its not #### if you knew anything about him you would realize that alot of mistaken people have heard him called AD and thought it was AP. Guess you didn't read all of my post before you accused me of making comments not related to the post. Who uses words like germaine in a football blog anyway. That desktop calendar your wife gave you is really paying off.

Peterson may make it back by week 14. The Lateral Colateral Ligament (LCL) is on the side of the leg, at the knee, facing away from the body and to the side. The Anterior Colateral Ligament (ACL) is on the inside of the leg, at the knee, facing the other leg.

ACL damage is usually severe because it's caused by a hard hit on the outside of the leg, which causes the knee to bend inward (in "knock-kneed" fashion) and the ACL on the inside of the leg stretches too much.

LCL damage is usually less severe because it's hard e to get a powerful hit on the inside of the leg pressing it out and away from the body (in "bow-legged" fashion) which causes the LCL to stretch to much. Nevertheless, this LCL injury is said to be "a 2 1/2 on a scale of 3", so it's hard to guage how long Peterson will be out.

In any case Chester Taylor has great matchups on weeks 11 and 13. I put in a waiver claim on him in the one league I'm in where he's a free agent. I had him last year and he was generally good for 100+ yards but not many TDs.

I would pick up Chester Taylor...if I could actually log on my league site. FOX sports sucks very much for fantasy football!! I will use another site next year.

BAL BAL- I would start McGahee, but just because he needs to get something going after get his #### handed to him by the Steelers, and against the Browns is his perfect chance to explode.
