I love this time of year....football season, knocking on the door of basketball season. I do, have to speak my piece on this whole college football clock rule that has been imposed this year.
Who the hell is the committee that decided on this? I want to know, becuase they should all be fired. The new clock rule is the most assinine rule I have ever heard of. It has prevented many comebacks this season. The goal of this rule was to speed the game up. However, I don't think this is happening. If it is time they are looking to save, then dont review every DAMN PLAY! Give each team 2 challenges per game and that is it, and return to the old clock rules.. Reviewing every little play drags the game out much longer than the old clock rules.
The idiots that made this rule change obviously had their heads up their ####. At least they should have had a provision similar to the NFL where the clock rules change in the last 5 minutes of the game. Their, that is my post. I know it isnt too well written, but this new rule is utter ####. Thanks for your time, and good riddance to the NCAA rules committee.
You don't have to write a best seller for a blog when the message is clear and concise. The new clock rules and review rules in NCAA football are #### stupid. I am in total agreement with you. I can guarentee you that these rules will, once again, be changed next year.
I agree wholeheartedly with both FP's comments, your blog's ok-made the point. Now, isn't it just possible they are trying to "free up time" to run more commercials since it has become big business too? Just a thought......
actually, the clock rule cuts down on commercials. what they're doing is limiting the time between possession changes, meaning networks dont have the normal 2 minute breaks they've had in the past.
1 of the big reasons for the change is to shorten the overall length of the games, so viewers of regular network programming dont have to wait for a game to end....kinda like all the 60 minutes viewers who still get pi$$ed off when the nfl game runs late on cbs.
but since most college games that are on regular network tv are on saturday, and those during the week are on cable, i dont see the point. first of all, there's nothing on saturday nights anyway, and 2nd, the games during the week are almost all on cable. the new rule is just stupid in my opinion. (plus, i cant channel surf to check out other games during commercials, which REALLY sucks)
cuz, I don't think so. Those few times when a telvised game doesn't go to commercial on change of possession, the time will be shorter. But the TV timeouts seem to be just as frequent and as long as ever.
If college football wants to shorten the time of games, just get rid of the stoping the clock for first downs like the NFL plays. That would shave off some time, but not really effect a 2 minute drill.
I am a former NCAA Div I athete/has-be en and I have decided to try to take a swing at using this blog give my views on many a sports issue. I was raised and currently reside in Denver, so I am sure my bias will show. Being new to the blogosphere, I will try to not embarass myself.. I am just looking to settle every argument I have ever had in my local sports bar. Since the good 'ol playing days, I have taken a desk job and gained 40 pounds, so let's see if I can throw some wieght behind my words.
