Sammy Sosa To Nationals?
Jul 19, 2006 | 2:25PM | report this

Sammy Sosa says he would like to come back to Major League Baseball. Maybe the Washington Nationals? With all the trade rumors floating around, the Nationals may need a guy that can play the outfield for them. If they trade Alfonso Soriano and Jose Guillen, they can use Marlon Byrd and Ryan Church, but the Nationals haven't showed strong intrest in those two players this year. Maybe they can sign Sosa to a one year contract. It won't spark a huge comeback, but it could help them with the outfield situation after the deadline.
Sosa is aging a little, but that's ok. He has a lot of experience in his career and if he comes back, he can continue his pursuit of 600 career homeruns. Austin Kearns will be in right field for the Nationals, so Sosa can play left until the Nationals feel they have a younger guy that can everyday for them in left. Sosa would be a good short term signee for the Nationals. E####ally with all these trade tumors swirling around.

The Ever Changing East (AL) Breakdown
Feb 17, 2006 | 10:47AM | report this
New York Yankees 97-65 --
Toronto Blue Jays 95-67 2
Boston Red Sox 88-74 9
Tampa Bay Devil Rays 80-82 17
Baltimore Orioles 75-87 22

New York Yankees: They are getting older, but they have injected some youth and better talent into their team. However, the Yankees need to start developing their minor league system so they don't have to sign old veterens. They look good this year and should end up on top yet again.

Toronto Blue Jays: The Blue Jays have made the biggest offseason aquisitions. They added the much needed power and contact that they lacked, new corner infielders and a catcher. Oh yeah, they finally have a closer and a legit number 2 starter. They still don't have enough punch to beat the Yankees, but 2007, when the Yankees age out, the Blue Jays will be #1.

Boston Red Sox: The Red Sox added Coco Crisp to fill Johnny Damon's spot: wrong move. They added Mike Lowell to fill Bill Mueller's spot: not good enough. They have Kevin Youkillis filling Kevin Millar's spot: too bad. They did add Josh Beckett, and if healthy, he's a future #1. Lowell, Youkills and Crisp are good, don't get me wrong, but they can't fill the voids. The Red Sox need some depth to their bench and a better minor league system to fill these three gaps for the future.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays: The DRays have created a team that should be good for years to come. They are moving up in the world. Give these top prospects a year or two to adjust to the Major League level, and this team could be World Champions. 2 games under .500 maybe a bit of a strech, but the DRays continue their amazing second half run that they had last year, .500 sounds right.

Baltimore Orioles: The Orioles added Millar to fill in for Rafael Palmerio. It's a good move, and that should help. Other than that, they haven't done anything huge, except convincing Leo Mazzone to come to Baltimore. He could do some great things with newly aquired Kris Benson, Erik Bedard, John Maine, etc. Their new, young closer will also benifit from Mazzone. They won't do much this year with no offense, and lets face it, offense is everything in the AL. If they can add a few bats and a batting coach with Mazzone's skills for hitting, this team could be huge.
