Being a Cardinal fan, I have always known Carlos Zambrano as an arrogant ####. What he has said recently, proves my point.
Zambrano recently said this: "If they don't sign me, sorry, but I must go. That's what Carlos Zambrano thinks." <ESPN.com>
That's what Carlos Zambrano thinks..he's talking in THIRD PERSON! That right there shows his arrogence. If he has to talk in the third person to make a point...his head his large. Then, if he doesn't get a contract, he must go? That's understandable. You don't want contract negoiations hampering your performance. But, this is why he said it: During the annual Cubs Convention, Zambrano, when asked whether he will test free agency next season, repeatedly said "This is a business" and noted that Barry Zito's seven-year, $126 million deal helped raise his value on the free-agent market. And more: "When you're a great pitcher and have talent, you deserve the money no matter who gives it to you," he said, according to the Tribune. "Zito is a great pitcher. Good for him he has that contract, and I think that will help me." And yes, more: "Jim spent a lot of money. I hope he has more for 'Big Z,'" he said, the newspaper reported.
He referred to himself as Big Z..that made me laugh. Sorry, onward. He's not even a free agent left, he has 1 year until he can file for FA. And he acutally said Zito's large contract (who, by the way, deserves the contract he got) helped raise his market value. Can you say a greedy ####? Zito is a great pitcher. Good for him he has that contract, and I think that will help me. Wow...see what I mean? Cubs fans, I'm a huge Cardinal fan, you should not want this guy on your team. Your GM spent loosly (which won't help =P) and Zambrano thinks he deserves a lot of money. No. That shouldn't happen. I hope Jim Hendry is as smart as I think he is and he lets the overweight, arrogent #### go. Your team's history is too rich of talent and failure (=P) to have that loser on your team.
Pricks win ball games though. You think its fun to be teammates with Roger Clemens or Randy Johnson or Curt Schilling? Heck, but they'll go out their and pitch their nuts off and win you twenty games a year. Who cares if a pitcher is a #### anyway.
It's called posturing. The Cubs have made getting him re-signed to a long term deal a priority (which is why it's being discussed). If the Cubs don't want to pay him 15 million, imagine what his price tag will be after this season if he wins 20 and the Cubs win anything in the postseason.
This is precisely why Zambrano is my favorite player (and why Cardinal fans hate him). On a team that's been toothless for so long, I love nothing more than to see Z yell at an opposing batter. Warms my heart.
And as MustardMan pointed out, Carlos is just using the leverage he has. I have to (literally, HAVE TO, I'll weep otherwise) believe that the Cubs aren't so dumb as to overpay for a couple mid-level guys but not pony up for a legitimate #1. Hendry's on the hotseat, so he's eating ala carte right now without fear of ever having to pick up the bill.
This is probably bad news for the Cubs long-term, but good news for the prospect of resigning Zambrano.
Seeing as how you're a Cardinals fan I have to wonder if the real reason you think the Cubs should let Zambrano go is because you know they're a better team with him than without him.
This is a perfect example as to why the St. Louis doesn't deserve the cardinals. STUPID BASEBALL FANS!!! How do you not pay the guy when he is by far the best pitcher on your team and one of the best pitchers in the league. Give me a break, and who are you ####'n you probably just wanted the Cards to sign him.
Zambrano has never won more than 16 games in any season. Yes, he is the best pitcher the cubs have ,but that isn't saying much for a LAST PLACE team. He should take the money and get out of cubbie land and try and get a ring. As far as those Cardinals, too bad cubbies, we got ANOTHER title.
Hey Pulen527, why are you wasting your time even talking about the Cubs? These are the same idiots who want to blame a guy for catching a foul ball and stupid goat as the reason's why they havent won a world series in a hundred years!
What else does Chicago have to talk about though? The Bears are very overrated( all the years they've had a team and they've only been to the super bowl twice!) good job. The Bulls werent anything before Jordan and havnt been anything since. The Blackhawks are a joke, and the only team with a recent championship, the White Sox, are hated by most of the city.
The Cubs just spent 300 million on Soriano and scraps from other teams, so good luck with that. I forgot about the 10 million per year for the great Lou Pinella! Two months from now Espn and Fox will be talking about what the Cubs will need to do with those huge contracts and change their annually losing record.
Go Kerry Wood and Mark Prior!
And Carlos Zambrano is nowhere near 18 million per year.
First off, good to see Mustard post...been ahwile my friend.

If St. Louis fans are stupid, why were they voted the best sports city in the nation? I'm not arguing that Zambrano is not the best pitcher on the team...I'm saying he's an arrogent ####. The Cubs have a rich history full of losses (Cardinals fan...have to make fun of them). They have a historic franchise...they shouldn't downgrade themselves to sign this guy. No one should. He's the T.O. of baseball. No one should sign him. They talk big, but they can't help a team. And if the Cardinals signed him, I would give up on them. There is no way I'd root for a team with Zambrano on their team.
Calling Zambrano the T.O. of baseball is pretty strong. Last I checked Zambrano wasn't destroying the Cubs by being a disruptive presence. He was the only bright spot on the Cubs' pitching staff last year, so getting rid of him would probably go down in history with the Lou Brock trade and letting Greg Maddux walk.
If the Scrubs get rid of Zambrano, Hendry should be fired right now and the Trib. should be forced to sell the team. Hendry signed Ted Lilly for around 11 million and gave Soriano (one of the worst defensive outfielders in the game) $160 million, Who knows Soriano could be bust when he comes to Wrigley look at Juan Pierre, he didn't play to his capability in a cub uniform and even Wood and Prior, the Golden Boys, can't even get on the field. And Lilly he might win 12 games when Zambrano is already proven he is one of the to ten maybe 5 best pitchers in the major leagues. Being a WHITE SOX fan I hope they get rid of him and they probably will and be stuck with prior, who let alone can't win 12 games but might not even pitch 12 games and Wood(haha I won't even say anything) and the rest of a less than mediocre staff. And watch Zambrano go to the Yankee's or Boston or the Dodgers and win 20 games the next three years and all because you don't want to pay him what he is worth, I think they are getting a deal he is younger than Zito and arguably might be better than him. Let the cubbies get rid of him, thats why they will always be scrubs.

I'm 18 and I enjoy baseball, as I'll only write about baseball. I'm a business major at Illinois State and I plan on going into baseball for a career. Hopefully one day, beating Theo Epstein's record as the youngest GM ever. My dream job is being the GM of the St. Louis Cardinals.
