Whats in store for the Calgary Flames
Jul 05, 2006 | 10:55AM | report this
Today Darryl Sutter signed Alex tanguay to a three year contract averaging roughly 5.25 million per year. This is a great signing for the Flames. Alex brings offence, Stanley cup experience, and he has proven that when paired with elite players he can get them the puck. I have been reading today from alot of posts saying that 5 mil is alot of money for a player that only put up 29 goals. It is his abiliy to get the puck to Iginla that will be invaluable, not to mention that alex will also take some of the checking pressure off of the rest of the team. This should in theory give everyone more space to get shots on net.

Now curiously today Sutter also said that Tanguay is going to be move to the center. This makes me question what is in store for the left wing. Jeff Friesen was signed today so i think he might get a shot at that spot but i wouldn't be surprised if Chuck Kobasew is also given the chance. You might be thinking now that Friesens numbers in the last couple of years have not been very good but if you look back to when he was productive then you'll see that his coach was none other than Darryl Sutter. Jeff consistantly put up 50 to 65 points for Sutter when he was with the San Jose Sharks and he is still fairly young at 29. I say lets see what he can do playing for someone who believes in him on a team that has great moral.

There is a very good chance i am wrong about this but i heard a rumor today that Sergei Samsonov might be headed to cow town and this would also explain the move to center for Alex Tanguay.

Thats all for now folks
