Rockets End Kobe 4 MVP
Mar 16, 2008 | 3:13PM | report this

OK, can we finally end the talk of Kobe Bryant for MVP?  If the Hornets didn’t do it with their double-digit victory over the Lakers on Friday night, the Rockets surely ended it today in Houston with another double-digit win over the Lakers.

Boo hoo …. Where was Kobe?  Where was another 81 points from the boy genius?  Where was the MVP candidate taking his team on his back and leading them to victory?  What?  Laker fans got no answer… got nothing to say  … of course not.  Laker fans get your hero to put up 81 against a decent team when they need it and we can talk.

Better hope the Lakers don’t meet Houston in the playoffs.  Shane Battier got an answer for the Kobe riddle and it’s called in yo face defense.  By the way, who did the god of basketball pass up when he drafted that Kwame  fiasco?  Why it was Battier.

Pau Gasol must be the MVP for the Lakers.  They are now 0-2 without him.

How sweet it is? It was said the Rox couldn't win unless Tmac scored 40 because the role players weren't any good. (jamal Mashburn) They just proved how good they are, Mac had an off game but they mad KB jack up 33 to get 25. Take that all day long. If they can handle up against the Celtics and whoever else this week, maybe they will finally give them some respect until they can think of an excuse for why they won

Lmao...Not even worth commenting on. But we all know the Rockets little streak will always be 2nd best. T-Mac wasnt even a factor. I guess there goes his MVP shot. The outside shots that the Lakers couldnt defend is what won them the game.

You are correct. Lol...

lakersfan4life:

Actually, the Lakers were beat in almost all phases of the game. Rockets had higher FG% and total from the field, outrebounded the Lakers 58-53, higher ft percentage and total, 7 more three-pointers, and more assists.

Rockets win streak is the longest since the salary cap was implemented, and the way the Rockets are playing, don't be so sure they can't get 12 more consecutive wins...

It's hard to resist dishing out some humble pie and serving it up piping-hot to so many of the Lakers fans that have been puffing their chests and annointing themselves 08 champs. Hey BleedinPurpleNGold, where you at right now? Dizzy, what you got to say about that humbling defeat to the Rockets?

If the Lakers were legit, they would NOT have lost at home to the Kings, and then back-to-back losses to WC contenders.

Soon as they got Gasol, Laker fans have annointed them champs or at least put them in the finals with the Celtics.. Kobe ain't the MVP and the Lakers ain't champs ... yet.

Here's an idea: let's break Chris Paul's finger and LeBron's, and see how they cope.

And while we are being ridiculous, let's declare that one game tells us everything we want to know about the MVP race and pronounce LeBron James out of the running, because he and his Cavs couldn't beat New Orleans either this year, and LeBron was at full health and had his full posse to try.

Now, if we care at all about reality, it will be interesting to see how the Lakers survive their loss of their 3 7-footers (and of Trevor Ariza). If their record falls too much, that might affect Kobe's votes.

PoetryMan does kobe have to get 81? what about just the "W"?

And if he do get 81, you don't have to kiss his nikes, just be happy for him..

Kobe doesn't wants the MVP award...He wanted to win.. and they will become 2008 champs...

Go LAKERS...

what u need to realize is that before the season, the Rockets were picked to be a conender for the title. They started off poorly and your right, the laws of average are kicking in. I believe they kicked in 22 games ago. your looking a very good team. let the negativity go or is it the harsh bitterness of a Laker fan?

Dude, you might want to look at the Lakers win/loss record over the past two weeks. it's pretty bad. I believe you all have more problems than the one beating from the Rockets. It's not looking good for you. You all have a tough stretch just like the Rockets so man up chief.

Dude, Like i said...Alot of wind blowing for one game. I dont need to look at their record over the past 2 weeks. I can accept defeat. What, are all Laker fans supposed to hide in fear because we lost a few games? Wouldnt be much of a fan if i did. And i man up quite well, thanks.

and I can appreciate someone supporting there team, regardless of the situation. Kudos on that. But you have to keep it real, you guys were spitting a lot of venom and after the lost, can't give it up without any sarcasm. But i feel you, I rooted for mine when they were garbage, the difference is, I had no problem admitting the better team won.

Unlike the Lakers, the Rockets do not depend on their ONE player to score 50 points. Yao out, others step in, T-Mac has a bad game others step in. That's called a TEAM !! Gasol out, Lakers drop 2 quick ones ! It would be a total meltdown for the Lakers if Koby got injured ! Will the Rockets win streak come to a halt? Sure it will, then they will get ready for the next game as they have done after the last losses and kick some more butt. Will they win the Western conference and the Championship? Who knows, but they should deal some headaches for whoever they play. Even if they don't they have developed a lot of players into overachievers and has gave this team more than one or two dimensions like some other teams are. ( HINT, LAKERS )

Ok, is this post written by a Cleveland fan? LeBron isn't in the running for the award this year.

No Pau, no win today. Bookies took a beating as money went on Houston. The Saturday night announcement on Pau being out for the next three games was too late.

Who actually thought the Lakers could win with only Kobe?

NBA is the Worst, don't even waste your breath on blinded Lakers fans. You know if they were the team to end the streak there would be 50 blogs going right now, with such favorite titles as: "Lakers Prove Themselves as Western Conference Favs!!" or "Kobe's performance ends all other candidacies for 08 MVP"... perhaps something like "Rockets have met there match!"

The point is, Lakers fans had become convinced they were the best of the west, and they held the 1st spot for how long? 2 weeks? 3 weeks? Meanwhile the Suns have owned it most of the season, sharing it with Spurs and Hornets. While the Suns have been improving as of late, and working Shaq in very nicely, the Lakers are going through another one of their annual melt-downs, losing to NOT just the hot Rockets, but to the Hornets, and even the Kings at home. This is the time you have to play for real. The Lakers are still contenders, but far from the annointed...

Congrats Rockets. Keep it up. That was an exciting game.

Tom7 - I don't understand how you use Kobe's pinky as an excuse against his performance. He's played better if anything since the injury. So how does the injury affect him? I mean he went 11-33 tonight, so it was the pinky. If he goes 10-15 next game, what role did the pinky play? For what it's worth, his three point shooting in march is the highest month yet this year. So why are we always talking about the pinky.

Tom7,
Excuses never loses. Kobe's got a bad pinkie. Big whoopie! What did he have last year when LeBron led his bunch of rag tags to the finals?
One of the LA Times scribes was talking about the 81 just the other day ... everybody and their mother has been on the Laker band wagon ... enough!
They're melting, melting, melting ... oh, the pain.

All you punk Rocket fans finally gettin back on that bandwagon!?!?! We were down three maybe four starters and it still took Alstons luckiest game to pull it out AT YOUR HOUSE. Don't knock Kobe until you can get McGrady to striaghten out that lazy eye and win a playoff series. Just wait, you punks will crawl back under your rock

Keep praying, keep praying, ...
The NBA has several conspiracy type episodes in past years including this year. So, Kobe could win MVP because of the market he plays in ...

How did the celtics get KG for next to nothin?

Most of the comments on here are from tools who either don't actually understand basketball or are frustrated in life because what most of you are saying about the Lakers is super stupid. You use instances of failure or success to determine who deserves what when none of you are even competing in real life.
You eagerly wait for the Lakers to lose 1 maybe two games before you jump on the hate wagon. You lament Kobe when he scores 40 or more then ridicule him when he seemingly doesn't shoot enough, or god forbid he has an injury, plays through it and then plays differently because of it. Make up your minds, find a point and stick to it. Good thing this blog "Rokets end Kobe 4 MVP" is just that a blog because if the BLEEP on here is how things are judged then Tyrone Lue, or Skip to my Lue would end up winning.
Fact is the Lakers have posted more wins than the Rockets, Kobe is having an MVP year, and yeah if Lebron and his merry band of misfits came to the Wesyt they wouldn't even be colum foder.
PoertyMan I've read your post before and you've actualy done a good job but this is worse than the minute and a half most of these clowns can't even attain.

LASweet,
I'm so tired of hearing about how if the Cavs were in the West ... blah, blah, blah.

Well, the Cavs ain't in the West and they got nothing to do with where they play ... they just play. Getting to the finals last year was very impressive and I think LeBron deserves MVP this year for what he did last year.

If, if, if, ... if Kobe played for the T'Wolves he would not be in consideration for MVP.

PoetryMan,

You're tired of hearing?? You're tired of hearing?? Wow, Who started this rediculous post? You did. So if you're tired of hearing then you should probally stop posting. Just as you guys praise Lebron for being in a subpar division and close to the bottom or mid way for you excuse makers, we praise Kobe and the Lakers for excelling in a strong division. Just like you get tired of hearing about how great Kobe is and why he should be considered for MVP we get tired of hearing the crying about why he doesn't because the Lakers lost two games.
What world do you live in where a player or anyone else for that matter should be rewarded for what they did in the past? Should we sing your praises because you wrote a good post in the past or comment on this on we're reading today? Glad you're not running a business. What Lebron did LAST year up until he met the Spurs was impressive. But impressive doesn't win it all and apparently it can't or doesn't prevent that broom from hitting you dead, smack, in the butt. (Do you find that impressive too?
If Kobe played for the Tenderpups the tender pups would probaly have the same record as the Cavs. But like you said, he doesn't he plays for the Lakers and the Lakers are ahead in their conference and a percentage point behind overall in the West.

What you did the year before does count in the other pro sports. That's how Albert Pujols won mvp in baseball. And, that's how many players in the NFL go to the Pro Bowl.
The west is so close that if you lose 2 games in a row you go from first to fourth or worse. Same is true for the mvp race; 2 bad games and you are no longer the leader ... if you were the leader.
