My God ... now I have to hear about how great the LAKERS are now for who knows how long. Now, it's the Lakers vs Celtics in the NBA finals already and Kobe for league MVP! Enough! Kobe never gets MVP because he's just Dominique on a better team with a great coach. Look at most of your past MVPs and you will see they dominated in more than one category. Iverson was a league leading scorer and among the leaders in steals. Duncan was among scoring and rebound leaders. Ditto for Shaq. Kobe scores like many scorers before him. LeBron James, however, appears regularly among the scoring and assist leaders and is a true triple threat. If the MVP does not got to Kevin Garnett, it should go to LeBron. (I'm not a Kobe hater, but he has a long way to go to win me back as a fan.)

Kobe was 7-23 last night before "taking over". He can thank Gasol and Odom who were unstoppable that he was even in a position to take over the game. All those points and almost no assists. What we saw it the 4th is the only way Kobe helps his team. When he catches fire. LeBron and Garnett impact the game in so many other positive ways even when they aren't scoring. But you're right. Every time he hits a jumper in iso-coverage now I hear the MVP chants louder and louder. It's almost comical. He plays well enough to give his team the edge in the 4th quarter twice now and it's like so OBVIOUS he's the MVP. LeBron's been doing it since November.
I'm really getting sick of his "will to win" or whatever people are calling it now. Last night Kobe got into a swearing match with a fan, and flicked his jersey about 15 times in the last 2 minutes. After Kobe and D Fish sandwiched Kevin Martin (of course no foul) Kobe decided to throw down a "sick" 360 dunk and then proceeded to stare down players, fans, and both benches and scream. I almost started laughing. You bring that weak BLEEP into the Q and you'll get laughed out the gym. When LeBron throws down a dunk there's a dent in the floor. The ball bounced all the way out to the 3pt line in his dunk against the Bulls. Kobe, just lay it up and in. You're no longer a high flyer, you're a jump shooter. Stop trying to be LeBron. You think Michael was show boating like that when he was a vet? Hayell no. He was sticking jumpers in people's eyes and holding the pose, not jawing at fans and screaming as if he needed to convince himself that he was good. He'd been there, done that. As a laker fan I will admit it was nice to see Kobe flicking his jersey pulling out the LAKER logo making sure all Sac fans could see it. He's a laker! has been for 12 years. He does have the option of getting out of his contract after next year. I hope he retires a laker but if not......Players/free agents have and always will want to flock to this beautiful city Los Angeles....Now cleveland.... that's a different story. The verbal exchanges between kobe and the kings had alot to do with a hard foul by Brad Miller. Mike Moore acted like it was the greatest thing he had ever seen. For a second I thought. Leadership, he works hard at it each night. i.e.: he motivated his team last year in the finals by putting up the poster of him dunking over Duncan. His first drive to the lane, Duncan blocked his shot! From the team’s point of view, all of the air went out of the balloon. Result, got swept! A 73%-FT, 46%-FG over 5 years.
Kobe: Quiet and can get his shot off anytime on any one in the league. Defense, he is always on the ALL NBA defensive team by years end. Free throws, there isn't anyone better in clutch on the stripe. A career FT-84%, 45%-FG over 11 years. Experience, been there done that and still wants more of it! Assists are a very overrated stat. It doesn't matter how great the pass or how open the shooter is, he have to make the shot to count for the assist.

The funniest part about all this is that I actually don't hate Kobe at all. I wasn't pleased with his no-show of class last night, but I actually think he's very articulate and an unbelievable talent, who has displayed unparalleled work ethic throughout his career. I think he's become a head case the last few years, but I can't deny what he brings to the gym every night.

LeBron is a great player although I just feel that Kobe is just all around better. That comes with more experience though. LeBron will more than likely go down as the best ever. I believe the real reason Kobe should be the MVP is for his versitility. You never know how hes going to play from night to night. He can lock down on defense and get his teamates involved, or he can turn on his offense and score at will. He is such a smart player and knows how to lead a team to victory every night. The reason LeBron has slightly better numbers is because the games are always so close. The Lakers on average beat their opponents by 7.2 points a game while the Cavs are .3 points less per game than their opponents. Plus you have to remember that the Lakers are playing in the Western Conference.
This is the best thing I have seen regarding the rivalry on these blogs.
You are CORRECT, you can't argue with the players, they are clearly in the best position to judge who is best.
If the NBA was well managed, the MVP would come from just such a vote. Polling all the players with a definition of MVP as "best player" would remove the Nowitskis and Nashes from unjust awards.
I'm not a Kobe homer but I think you're comparison to Nique is inaccurate. They could both score like GR8 in a club full of fat girls. The parallel pretty much ends there.
Kobe has three titles, Nique none. Kobe's a far superior defender and when it's all said and done should clearly go down as the better overall player.

In my opinion, quite the similarities: both 6'8"-235; play the 3 spot; great highlight films; jump through the roof; played on average franchise; the only difference now is, Nique had a hard time with Worthy or Bird in his hay day. James, he is still improving each year. He might be a better defender than Nique when it's all said and done. Again, that's just me!

I think you're way off base with the Kobe-Nique comparasions. Kobe has 8 all pro defender awards of one level or another and Nique played defense with a matador cape.
If you want to compare someone with Nique at this stage of their career it would be Lebron although Lebron has better court vision by far.
