Hawaii vs. Georgia ...
Dec 02, 2007 | 10:21PM | report this

Georgia could be in a world of hurt. There has never been anything like the Warriors of Hawaii. And, what happens if Hawaii wins? Will they have a ligitimate claim to the national title?

What we have and have always had is a mythical national title.  A lot of schools got hosed this year ... namely, Mizzou, Georgia, Kansas, Hawaii?  It's been happening for many years ... before the BCS.

Still, it's Hawaii who gets to scream foul if they should take out Georgia.  Georgia is not in the national title game because its 2 losses were conference losses ... big deal.  The Bulldogs beat some real good teams and didn't lose to any patsy (USC).   They had strong schedule, unlike Kansas.  Hawaii did what Kansas could not do: win the game that counts despite your weak schedule.  The win against Washington was just awesome!

The Sugar Bowl is where it's at!  We got 2 teams with something to prove.  We got 2 teams who can talk the talk long after the season with a win.

The Sugar Bowl is going to be the BEST of the BCS bowl games. Georgia hasn't seen a QB like Colt Brennan in a LONG time. As a Fresno State fan, I've seen Brennan and he is the real deal. Brennan will succeed at the NFL level. If Brennan stays in the moment and doesn't get stage fright, I can see Hawaii beating Georgia.

Good question...but I have a better one; If UGA kills Hawaii (as they should), will the fans of schools like Hawaii finally shut up and stop living under the illusion that they can compete week in and week out with the "big boys" of College Football?

I am so tired of this weak schedule ####. There are teams that played the weak schedule and lost. Undefeated should count for something or why bother. Two undefeated teams should be playing for the title.

Hawaii is good, Brennan is good, very good, but for Georgia this is almost like a home game in SEC territory. Georgia has played in the dome.

I see it this way. Georgia is fast, real fast and young and they are very good and very physcial. Hawaii has not played a team like Georgia at all.

Hawaii will ot be able to stop the Dawgs on teh defensive side of the ball. Georgia will be bumping the Hawaii recievers and Georgia LB and free safety will be in Brennan face all night long. Georgia is very physical up fron on both sides of the ball and that spells trouble for Hawaii.

I don't think it will be as close as some believe. Georgia wins this one easily.

Yeah! Washington was a real power house. I do agree if Hawaii wins against Georgia they have a claim on the National Championship because georgia got screwed. How can you get jumped over by a team that did'nt even play. On the other hand if Hawaii gets beat bad they should just shut up and go home. Next year puts some teams that can play on your list of acomplishments.

Remember the Alamo is now remember Boise St. I don't think Hawaii has much of a chance ... just the same chance Boise St. had last year against OU.

Psyche,
Strength of schedule has to count for something. If USC had lost to someone respectable insteand of Stanford, they might be where LSU is today.

Hawaii is going to get pounded in this one. Match them up with a vanilla team like Ohio St. and they probably get the win, but the Dogs are going to chew them up.

This is the match up I wanted to see for Hawaii. I think Georgia will have good success running the ball against UH for the first quarter or first half before the UH defense tightens up. This is what happened against Boise State and Washington. UH will move the ball but I donn't know if they can do it long enough to beat Georgia in what will be like a home game.

Still, Boise showed us what can happen and after a month off anything is possible.

Georgia is a better team and is one of the hottest teams in the country, but UH cannot be taken lightly. True their schedule was poor but as we've seen this year, victories are hard to come by and 12-0 is impressive no matter the competition.

Ohio St. may be vanilla, but they are well-coached and make few mistakes. Georgia would have a tough time beating them anywhere. I expect the Buckeyes to give LSU a good fight.

Georgia should be Hawaii. But, will they?

Georgia lost 2 SEC games earlier in the season. Lsu lost 2 SEC games late in the season. LSU jumped 5 spots in the BCS after they beat Tennessee. Ohio state moved up after two weeks idle. Georgia lost a spot in the BCS makin way to Oklahoma and Virginia Tech. I don't care for the politics that has screwed one of the hottiest teams in the country. Georgia should be #2 or the BCS never should have had them at #4. Georgia will beat Hawaii by 24 points. Lsu will beat Ohio State as bad as they want to beat them.

Yep, Georgia got screwed, Hawaii gets no respect because of their schedule. Georgia at #4 and then does not go to #2? Give me a break. This is about what match ups the media wanted to see. Georgia needs to run the ball, hard and straight at them. I don't think Hawaii, especially in the second half, will be able to stop the Georgia backs. Running the ball will keep Brennan off the field. Never mind the team, this kid can throw the ball. Let's see, where did Terry Bradshaw go to school? Romo? Favre? Just because a kid doesn't go to a big time school doesn't mean they can't throw the ball. I am concerned about the Georgia secondary in this game. Still, Dawgs by 21+ is my expectation. Hawaii, play someone next year.

The right thing to do is for a team with two losses to relenquish its spot for a better team to play for the national title. A proud program yet no better than scavenging for left over? A 2 losses team holding up the NC trophy means nothing this year, achieves nothing, and proves nothing, except to show that the BCS does NOT work.

There will be no justice unless Hawaii delivers a BEAT DOWN. That being said, this game will be lightyears better than its counterpart on Jan. 7th. And yes, I used the term "lightyear" properly.

A 2 loss team to give up its' slot to a better team? OK, which was the better team that took the Georgia spot? A 2 loss team playing for the fictional NC. Is that any different than a 10 loss team playing in March for the NC? Coach Richt has handled this with class, just like the guy he is and the program he has built. Thanks for a great year Coach. Can't wait until next year.

I believe there have been 2-loss national champions in the past. What it proves is that it was an especially tough season.

Even a 4-team playoff wouldn't work this year. Who do you add? OU and USC? Again, what about Georgia?

We can argue this point who goes to the chapionship game for a decade and it's not going to change anything. I don't know for sure who should go but I know one thing television knows who's going to bring in the most veiwers and thats all that matters There will never be a playoff until there is a boycott and I don't see that happening any time soon. Hell we all like to watch the games to much. It's our own fault.

All this talk about Hawaii's weak schedule got me thinking.

Hawaii is scheduled to play Georgia on January 1, 2008.

If Georgia gets beaten by Hawaii then it will hold true that Hawaii had a weak schedule. Or not?

The guys on ESPN aren't even confident about Georgia's win. Gonna be a good one for Hawaii win or lose. But Warriors will win either way.

Georgia's going to be in for a tough, physical game. Hawaii can bring the lumber defensively. IF Hawaii stays in the moment and doesn't get stage fright, I can see Hawaii winning a close game. That being said, GO WARRIORS!!

You know this is what is wrong with the sports world....you get these guys who know nothing of the game and they comment on what is going to happen on tv so you have a bunch of idiots who buy into it....just like this fool how in the hell can you say that a Hawaii can play with a SEC Power House...you gotta be smokin crack...my best advice is for you to lay the pipe down and goto NA Brennan will not do anything in this game or at the next level...He is horrible and Goergia 44- Hawaii 10 that will be the score if not worse

I'll have my crow chilled, thank you very much. That being said, two words: Georgia speed. Brennan and company had no answer for Georgia's team speed. Georgia was not concerned about the run and very rarely rushed more than four guys. Gotta give props to Georgia, they whipped Hawaii in every phase of the game. I also have to give Hawaii props for getting this far.

Marcus Howard just made himself millions down the road. He's a beast. The team that drafts him will have a stud on their hands.

Yeah ... sports fans were hoping the Warriors would put up a fight like Boise did against OK ... deep down inside we all knew the big boys usually have their way. Thought Colt was going down for the count many times ... jeez, what punishment he took.
The game should have been USC vs. Georgia.
