The US women soccer players have increasingly becoming a contender to be taken very seriously in this 2007 WWC in China..Debuting the tournament on a timid note vs the Koreans, they announced to those who were second-guessing their ambition that they are a group to be reckoned with...They warned Sweden, then Nigeria of their intention to finally outscore the Brits by 3-0 this morning catapulting them to the semifinal joining the soccer power house Germany, and Brazil. Wambach, Boxx and Lilly made Donovan, Mia Ham, Julie Foudy proud of the mighty American women soccer...By defeating the Beckham's colleagues, the American Girls have increasingly showing to the World they too can master the ball, the passes, assists, possessions and countless trickeries of the Beautiful Game.
The On Song Wambach seems to be also in a mission here as her counterparts Marta and Cristiane of the menacing Brazil.
#20 is the 2007 WWC revelation along with Marta and Daniella..Wambach seeing here after scoring the first goal vs. England.
Here Shannon Boxx US midfielder outwitting Jill Scott from England before scoring the second goal..What an athlete!!! One can see the determination, the conviction on that US#7.
Advancing to the semi-final targetting the big prize, the American girls are going to face either the relentless Germany that has defeated North Korea earlier today or Norway depending on who wins between the two or the super contender Brazil in final which sent to vacation Denmark this Thursday.or Australia but everybody knows the Aussies are facing the worst nightmare in their soccerlifetime....
#4 Tania of Brazil in a reverse course vs. Julie Bukh #8 from Denmark in a match that ended 1-0 allowing the Samba girls to move to quarterfinal vs Australia tomorrow and....
the famous #10 Marta, Brazil forward sambaing after the 1-0 victory over Denmark will face-to-face Australia tomorrow in quarterfinal..This WWC is utterly becoming very interesting with the US posing as a threat for the favorites..As the old saying " Hard work can beat talent anyday should talent minimizes hard work" This is a lifetime opportunity for the American girls to show the SOCCER WORLD of what type of white/gray matter they are made of...
GO WAMBACH!!! GO SHANNON!! GO LILLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be continued......................................... ...........................................

As good as the US is they're up against one of the better teams now left in the tournament against Brazil. In particular against Marta who perhaps is the best female player in the world. There's also the Germans with Birgit Prinz and all her array of skills.
Thank you guys for peeping by. I have just finished watching the Samba girls vs. the Aussies. That was not easy for Brazil which was taken by surprise on a Australia's set pieces to tie the game at 68' but #11 Cristiane, the Brazilian forward. annihilated any Aussies' hope by scoring at 80' with her unsure right foot letting Barbiery, the Australian goalkeeper, flummoxed. BRAZIL 3- AUSTRALIAN 2.
Kal..Brazil has just defeated Australian 3-2 last night in China but this morning for us..The US, two time WWC champ in 1991 and 1999, has nothing to fear vs. the powerhouse Brazil. "Been there, done that" They will meet Thursday at 7:30AM..Set up your TiVo...
Sis...The Beckham's compradores were suffocated by the invincible US offense..Wambach was the protagonist...Could she repeat that vs. Marta, Cristiane, Formiga and Renata?? That is the $64K question???
Lisa..You should watch Soccer more often specially with Beckham and the former ####es' wife in town or get your Tivo tuned on Galavision or Univision channel. You won't regret that..In addition, Spanish channels are more exciting to watch..You do not need to be Spanish-fluent....
Marty...Thank you for your support and comprehension...Soccer in the US will be the next best thing... Wambach, Shannon and Lilly are there to prove it..Julie Foudy and Mia Ham have already put their 2 cents ....

Topha!! Thank you for stopping by...It was not easy for the Samba girls this morning..The Aussies missed the CROCODILES by inches...Now the ball is the US court as Wambach and Marta are gearing up to a showdown this coming Thursday...The US women soccer players have to exploit the Brazilian's set pieces weaknesses as I witnessed it this morning..That will be the UPSET of the Century....Meanwhile,Norway has to face PRINZ from the German squad this Wed....That will be very interesting to watch....

Mean..Welcome to the soccer blog...AS AMERICAN SPORTS LOVERS of any kind, it is our duty to monitor the US women soccer players very closely...Again, WELCOME!!!!
papi, my man! How you been! Nice to see someone on here is covering some soccer! I was a bit disappointed with how things turned out for the Canuck women, what with being eliminated on an injury time goal by Lisa Salisbury, but here's hoping the USA can bring the trophy back to North America!
Papi, several issues ago, ESPN da magazine had great writeup on Why Soccer Isn't Popular In the USA. The point I remember most was: 99.7% of the best players don't play here. I agree. We're spoiled with the quality of our domestic sports like the NFL, NBA and MLB. Plenty of the MLS games are painful to watch.
I resort to FoxSoccer Channel for the English Premier League games.
Neo!! my brother!! Where have you been?? I have retreated from the blog to take care of other stuff. Most of us do that here..Step back for awhile, refuel and come back...At times, some of us have a need to be missed..Neo!! You mean #5 Cheryl Salisbury, the Aussies' Captain, was injured this morning which probably cost them the game..Oh Well!! C'est la vie!!
Sis!! Well said...but with Dennilson, former Brazilian left winger and part of the 2002 Brazilian team Champ, playing in FC Dallas and David Beckham, former Real Madrid, Manchester United midfielder and now LA Galaxy, I have a renewed interest in watching MLS on FSC and recently SETA sport channel...There is nothing wrong to have American players playing abroad..As a matter of that, we need more of that...The Barclay's EPL is polluted of foreign players and so are the Bundesliga, the Apertura, the EL Calcio Italian serie A, the Spanish League (La Liga) and Le Championat de France..Most of the best Brazilian players are not playing in Brazil..Rodhino, Ciccihno are in Spain for Real Madrid, Ronaldhino in Spain for Barcelona, Ronaldo, Cafu, KAKA and DIDA( the Brazilian goalkeeper) in Italy for AC Milan, Maicon in Italy for Inter of Milan,Lucio
the Brazilian defender, in Germany playing for Bayern of Munich, Diego, Naldo in Germany for Weider Bremen ...the list goes on and on......The benefit of this has always been a plus for the players who got use to play vs. each other, know each other from their respective club..and when time comes for the World Cup (next one in South Africa three years from now)it will be like another game but with more publicity and decorum...
American players need exposing to foreign territory, to new style and to different soccer culture. We will also need to import more Beckham-like, more Dennilson-like here......

They'll have their work cut out for them against Brazil. The teams that are left in the tournament are the very best that the sport has to offer. Norway, Germany, USA and Brazil. The four best teams in the world.
Topha!! You bet!! These are the best the WWC has..In fact, USA is ranked #1 seed per FIFA..that is a huge accomplishment in the soccer parlance..Guess what!! Brazil is #10...Weird..isn't? With Germany the defending Champ, with USA, two time Champ (1991 and 1999), Norway and Brazil are the newcomers and a THREAT..
Let's see what will happen tomorrow am and Thursday am...Thanks for restopping by...

Well we saw what has happened with Germany completely obliterating Norway and blowing them out of the water. And now we'll have to wait to what materializes from the game between the US and Brazil. And we've seen how seriously Greg Ryan takes the issue as he's switched goalkeepers. He's brought in Briana Scurry purely because of her experience. Let's see if it'll amount to what's expected of the team ?
Topha!! I agree bringing Scurry for experience may be, may be!! a smart move but if Scurry fails the media and the talking heads are not going to forgive Ryan.I pray the God he is right...This is the third chance for the US to be in the soccer hall of fame..The only country to win that trophy 3 times. This is not a joke..Brazil is very thirsty at this time and well oiled...Women soccer is not that popular in Brazil contrary to popular beliefs...If the US gives them the opportunity, we will regret that for years to come...
I just got home from work replaying the today's game but I already knew the result and the commentaries that go along with...Tomoorrow morning we will know more about who is going to be in the Final in Shanghai Sunday...

Well they lost and it was purely from the fact that they were outplayed by the Brazilians from start to finish. Marta was far better than any of the American players on the field. She truly justified why she is indeed the best female player in the world. That is about as succinctly as one can put it.
Topha!! I told you so...That Ryan's move was a killer..I totally agree with Solo's rantings. Now..it remains to be seen how Ryan is going to make peace with Solo because that resentment can go on and on until the next WWC in 2011. In fact, US must beat Norway for the Bronze medal which will crystallize the US team as among the 3 best of the world..As far as I know, there is no medal for the 4th place....I will tune my TiVO on ESPN because the 3rd place match will be played LIVE at 4:55AM ET Sunday but the championship match LIVE is at 7:55AM.ET.......I will be UP then...

It was arrogance and stupidity on the path of Greg Ryan. He should've played Solo and if she failed to play up to standard during the game and then he could've replaced Solo with Scurry. But just to replace her just because of Scurry's record against Brazil. As I said it was plain arrogance and stupidty. They deserved the result they got against Brazil. And Solo now shows that she's not got enough maturity or the temperament to be a team player. As it is she may well have made herself persona non grata with the team and the coach because of her demeanor.
Even though the US women soccer team wins the 3rd place, I concur that Ryan needs to go..Mercersoccer has a piece on that...I definitely agree with you Topha..that is stupidity and arrogance...Worse, he has not given Solo a chance vs Norway to redeem himself..Rumors were circulating that Solo was not on the bench while other sources denied it...Ryan is campaining to stay as the US team head coach after this... perhaps to get even with Solo...to destroy her career...For that,if it is true,Greg Ryan has to go NOW!!!WE cannot tolerate Dictatorship in sports in this 21st Century...After all, this is the third time US wins the 3rd place..we need a coach to take us to the first place in 2011 WWC Germany which will put America as the first to win the title 3 times.....
